Douglas Newman was a billionaire magnate that purchased Selenus from the government a few years after his creation. He acted as Selenus's caring and thoughtful owner before he was taken away by the government on charges of harbouring a terrorist, who in reality was simply an innocent man being hunted by the government. Before his incarceration, he taught Selenus all he knew about philanthropy and humans as a whole; advice which Selenus took to (Papillon) heart.

After his incarceration, he was never heard from again. Selenus would like to think that his master is still waiting for the day when he'll be rescued by his faithful companion, but deep inside he fears that the government may have decided to get rid of him.
