Well, the awkwardness would only intensify more as the guy seemed to be far more interested in his food than anything else. While in some cases silence and not having to force conversation could be a good thing, this one missed the mark as far as the idea of a comfortable companionship went. He didn't know what to say or do, but just sitting there having to witness the other eating was starting to become increasingly uncomfortable. It felt like he was stuck pretending to be a statue, because what were his other options, really? Just get up and leave? He could, but that would likely come off rather rude for no reason, and he didn't particularly want to make that impression either.
Well, his internal decision making was temporarily interrupted when the guy spoke again, but it would inspire more confusion rather than help in the end. Huayan would just stare at the guy dumbly, honestly having no clue how to react at all. He had already declined once and stated pretty directly that sharing food wasn't really his thing, why was he being asked again? This only reminded him of the people that'd press an issue repeatedly to try to get the answer they liked, or to just push their narrative in general. And if it wasn't like that, then did this guy just...not really listen?
"...."
"...."
"...No."
It would take a good bit for him to eventually answer, and the tone of his voice was somewhat rough, as if he had to force himself to say that. Well, if the other was having a relaxing time with this encounter, unfortunately for him it was anything but, and he only felt more compelled to be high strung about it.
