Welcome to New Arcana!
Welcome, Welcome! You've probably guessed by now, but this is a text-based Persona RPG site for Atlus fans, by Atlus fans. If you're new to Shin Megami Tensei, this place can still be for you, so no need to dash towards the doors! Your first stop should be the introduction board so we can introduce ourselves. Then right after that, feel free to go through our vital information to get a good feel of the site. We hope you enjoy your stay, and if you have any questions don't hesitate to post them here. Ciao!
Shin Megami Tensei and Persona belong to ATLUS. We own nothing, and have simply used their data to create a world of our own. They are the true geniuses behind the scenes.
Soul Skill Name: Spirit of the Earth Persona Name: The Azure Knight Tier: Tier 1 Cost: Passive Type of Damage: N/A Description: It has been said that somewhere in a far off universe, demons who held chaos within their hearts aligned themselves with the mother of all life in a bid against both the armies of God and the twisted humans who had fallen victim to complacency while their planet decayed. While they ultimately failed in their mission to plunge the world into the primordial anarchy of the past, all who are considered the property and servants of the Morningstar still feel a faint connection to the goddess who the forces of hell once rallied behind. Even some demons such as Gisèle who never manifested in that universe and know nothing of it can instinctively call upon the oaths sworn with that deity in order to bend nature to their will during their struggles against authority. As a result, Gisèle does 15% extra damage whenever she uses earth skills against an enemy.
Relevant(?) Strengths/Weaknesses:
—Strength Name: Eat the Rich —Description: When fighting against another character Gisèle will deal 10% more damage to them if they have more VC than her in their inventory.
—Strength Name: Warrior of Chaos —Description: Throughout all her many incarnations across the multiverse the Scourge of Kings has always been a skilled swordswoman. Under the rare circumstance that she wasn't able to rely on her supernatural powers, she could fall back on her prowess with a blade and her natural speed to deal with her opponents. Mechanically this translates to her being able to attack twice in one turn with her soulbound weapon.
—Strength Name: Avatar of Malice —Description: Gisèle's fury is unyielding and on the battlefield she pulsates with inhuman levels of hatred. If she uses her class ability and enters her Corrupted form then once the duration ends she'll be inflicted with the Rage ailment specifically instead of a random one. It should be noted however that if for some reason she decides to enter Corrupted form again afterwards then whatever ailment she gets next will be randomized as it would typically be.
—Strength Name: Claws —Description: If Gisèle enters her Corrupted form then on both of her hands she will gain small claws capable of inflicting real damage on the enemy. These claws aren't anything spectacular; they're the length of average human fingers and will only inflict as much damage as a normal knife would do to the person. When up close and personal though they can be useful and if Gisèle wants to make a person's death look particularly gruesome then she can quite literally tear them to shreds through this.
—Racial Strength Name: I Am Thou, Thou Art I —Description: Gisèle is not a human being, but rather a product of them. While she does have a human form, it exists only as a container for her tale and soul, a hollow vessel that is only maintained by the beliefs and emotions of entities which know "true life." While she is still affected by real damage and can certainly be "killed" by non-supernatural weaponry, this method of destroying her will never be able to put a permanent end to her so long as someone within Junction continues to observe her existence in some form. As a result, Gisèle may reform within the Lower Ward of the city if killed through this method and will simply reappear with a new body with the old one having been destroyed in a burst of ethereal flames at the time of death.
It should be stressed however that this does not make her immortal. This racial strength applies only to death through real damage and cannot shield her against Personas, soulbounds, side-arms, soul skills, etc. If she dies to those then she's dead for good just like anyone else would be. In addition, her old body won't vanish for at least a few minutes and during this time the soul will continue to be housed within it thereby being open to attack. This means that were a person to acquire knowledge of this racial strength then they'd easily be able to counter it through simply wailing on the body through supernatural means until her HP is depleted to zero; the only saving grace to what would otherwise be a fatal flaw of this ability is the simple fact that it's extraordinarily unlikely that they'd arrive at this conclusion without Gisèle herself telling them about it.
If it's not obvious it should also be noted that any items or VC she had on her at the time of death will be lost. They won't even be able to be recovered by her allies or enemies as the flames which engulf her body will destroy all valuables on her person. Even if they take advantage of the short timeframe between her demise and her body's disappearance in order to loot from her discarded husk, the goods they gather from her will dematerialize in an instant as soon as she does.
Last but not least of the stipulations: it takes at least an ingame day for her to revive, so she absolutely cannot reenter the topic she died in or go into any other topics which were happening at the same moment. Even ignoring the day that it takes for her to resurrect, it'd still take some time to get from the Lower Ward to wherever she was last, so she can't just stroll right back in as if nothing happened.
—Weakness Name: Strange Bedfellows —Description: Needless to say by now, Gisèle is not very fond of those at the top of the food chain in society, so working alongside them can prove quite difficult. If the majority of her allies have more VC than her then any healing or buff skills used on her by her party will be 5% less effective. This means that a basic Media would only heal 15% of her HP instead of 20%, an unboosted Tarukaja would only give her a 25% increase in attack power, etc. This effect doesn't apply to passives, however, so skills such as Auto-Mataru would be unaffected by it.
—Weakness Name: Dated Tech —Description: It's not as if Gisèle's myth has never manifested in a world with advanced technology. Poverty exists in any time period after all and any reality where megacorporations exist is sure to attract her wrath like bees to honey. Speaking frankly though, it's far more likely for her to manifest somewhere like medieval Europe than it is for her to appear in Neo Tokyo. Her tale is one rooted in the feudal system of the time and the superstitions of the common people, so it's only natural that she'd take after those times in some way and feel slightly uncomfortable using highly advanced technology when there's a more familiar method available. It's partially because of this that her side-arm is a bow-and-arrow and because she uses this instead of a gun her attacks with Envy only ignore 5% of the enemy's PEnd instead of the usual 10%.
—Weakness Name: Aquaphobia —Description: Every time she stares out into the waters Gisèle is reminded of... unpleasant memories. Around significant amounts of water, she feels incredibly uncomfortable and she'll try her best to avoid it at any cost making swimming or visiting an aquarium out of the question for her. This also has the mechanical effect of increasing her chance of being inflicted with Fear for the next two turns after being struck by an ice or water skill. Ice increases the chance by 5% whereas water increases it by 10%. The extra chances don't stack on top of each other though; for instance, if she was hit by an ice skill and then shortly after hit by a water skill the 10% boost would override the 5%.
—Weakness Name: Monstrous —Description: When Gisèle goes into her Corrupted form she reveals herself as the Sword of Satan and thereby a demonic entity. In this state light skills are 10% more effective against her.
—Racial Weakness Name: Azure Sin —Description: Gisèle's inexorable ties to her myth and her supernatural nature grant her a means of defying death, but they also ensure that she will forever be a slave to the parable from which she sprung. As such, she will never be free of that Azure Sin, the crime that stained her inside and out and stole from her her humanity, that very first murder that her tragedy itself is intrinsically rooted in. It matters not whether the tale is true or false, whether or not someone could convince her that it was just a legend; she is nothing more than an actor on a stage, a pawn of pawns cursed to play the role she was given. And so shall the waters forever reject her, so shall she never know comfort within the waves.
What this means is that if someone were to submerge her body in water after killing her through real damage they'd negate her chance of revival and cause her to experience death as she normally would. However, this also has another and arguably much more potent effect.
Any time a water skill is used on Gisèle it has a chance of instantly killing her as if it were a light or dark skill of an equivalent tier. The way the skills normally function doesn't change meaning that she still receives damage in PvS from being attacked by them, they just have an extra benefit when used against her on top of that. Any relevant boosts to water skills will also increase the chance of the instant kill being a success but just like for light and dark skills it can't exceed the cap that's in place.

As the seeker's attacks connected, they prompted no reaction from the horror. Yet, they could feel a pain deep within themselves, eating what what made them real, what connected them to this world. The demoness would feel this pain resonant through her hollow soul.

Heather took a half step back, landing firmly on her right foot. "Well, aren't you a swole one? lol, I'd be a bit more worried if you weren't so gross." Of course, then her face fell.
"Disgusting. I'll defeat you from inside your own mind."
She stated dryly. Any touch of her bubbly tone was gone, as the air around her seemed to distort...before she vanished. And in the hall to the right...a Corrupted Stalker appeared. It let out a squeal. One of both pain, and pleasure.
—Racial Strength Name: Illusions —Description: A little known, and rarely used, ability of her race was illusions. They have the ability to project a single thing, while hiding their own presence. However, anything larger than something humanoid is impossible, as is creating something that they haven't seen before. The illusion can speak convincingly, but will vanish if touched, leaving Heather's location exposed. If she manages to attack while her illusion is active, that attack will deal an additional 15% damage. However, she can only use Dexterity attacks. It takes too much concentration to use her Illusion to do anything else.
Racial Weakness Name: Concentration —Description: Making illusions requires a lot of concentration, and effort. During the turn after an illusion vanishes, Heather will take an additional 15% damage if she's attacked. If someone can see through it, they'd be able to see her. Attacking her in this state would also result in the extra damage, along with a 50% chance of being downed.
Creating an illusion of a Corrupted Stalker down the hall to the right, turning invisible.

For the first time sense it's arrival, the creature turned its body to look in the direction of Heather's illusion. As if it were a living fluid, the mass of writing flesh and limbs seemed to flow through itself as it charged the screaming hologram, the two Seekers completely forgotten. However upon reaching the illusion, the betrayal was made clear.
Make hast Seekers, you don't have much time.

"Shit, that's how this fight ends?
In truth, Gisèle couldn't deny that she was somewhat disappointed; she couldn't deny that her first instinct seeing it rush off to meet the illusion was to charge it and skewer it through while it wasn't looking. But she also couldn't deny that it'd be a waste of time. The flies had already proven to her that killing these things just wasn't all that satisfying, only offering fleeting satisfaction that to an extent even made her hunger worsen, so wasting time trying to destroy this beast would only lead to the same result in all likelihood. That wasn't to imply she didn't get anything out of this, but when they had a job to do and the enemy was surprisingly resilient there wasn't enough justification to continue. If she re-engaged with it it'd only be a waste of Heather's efforts, so instead she'd force out a wave of half-hearted mocking laughter at the monster's incompetence, turning and rushing off out of the hall as a sudden burst of speed and shadows overtook her.
"Nice job there, palligator! You've got some handy tricks up your sleeve, don'tcha~?" The praise was genuine (if a bit exaggerated through its overly congratulatory tone), however, it was difficult to hear when the knight was shouting it over her shoulder at such a high velocity. She'd keep rushing onward for a while, spotting two other creatures like the previous one that she'd zip by as she passed through rooms, but ultimately the supernatural speed would ensure that what otherwise would've been a long trip potentially impeded by obstacles was reduced to a mere few seconds of safety. Eventually Gisèle's shoes emitted a harsh squeak as she skidded to a rough stop; she waltzed through the only door currently left in her path and reduced her pace to an almost leisurely jog, but understandably she'd transition to a swifter speedwalk not long after entering, moving faster after realizing that one of the two creatures she spotted wasn't far behind. "This place is such a cluttered shithole. No wonder Cinder warned us about getting lost -- we're not finding much of anything at this rate." With an exasperated sigh and an impatient twirl of her sword, the woman continued to advance through the pathway, hoping to find something worth her time soon. All this talk of journals and corruption had actually had gotten her kinda hyped up in spite of her lack of concern, not to imply this was out of any real zeal for the cause. None of the trio had expressed any delusions of heroism nor had they prattled on with idealistic speeches about saving the world or whatever it was kids did these days... Perhaps that was part of why Cinder took such a liking to them in the first place. The Azure Knight could understand that; those who exalted themselves as paragons were often those who had the dirtiest secrets to hide, the people most prone to abusing their privilege, cowards hiding their sins from themselves and others behind a mask of bravado. She wasn't exactly an open book 100% of the time either (not anymore anyway), but at least she wasn't obnoxious about her bullshit! Whatever though. She was getting sidetracked; there wasn't any point in rambling incoherently like this, whether out loud or inside her head.
Proceeding to her immediate left, she'd step into a new alleyway with her blade held close to her side. Hopefully the trio of anarchists were nearing some kind of point of interest.

Heather huffed, once the creature was a fair distance away. Slaughtering monsters to get stronger was fine and all, but there were some bets you just didn't touch with a ten foot pole. And that thing just wasn't normal, even by nasty creature standards. Dying in some gross back-alley wasn't on her agenda. They only had a moment to slip away now. She'd made a slight gamble there-hoping that she had been right that what attracted it was, indeed, the sounds of the creatures. Knowing that she was right...well, maybe they wouldn't have to worry about those things. Hell, it hadn't even attacked them first. That had been a sloppy mistake on her part, she should have tried stopping Gisele running in head first. If she was being honest, she doubted these things were looking for the journals. No, they seemed to be looking for a free meal. In which case, it would probably be in their best interests to find the damn thing and get out before they ran out of small fry to eat.
Heather rushed off herself after eyeing the creature for a moment, barely hearing Gisele's praise, though not really paying it much mind. She decided that made her a bit even for the bad call earlier, and resigned herself to not fighting one of those...things (if there were more) unless there were no other options. It was a pain, but dying would be an even bigger pain. "No prob Blumigo! I'm gonna be totes 100% right now, I had absolutely ZERO clue that would work, so we're probably lowkey lucky to be getting away." She called. "Let's like, not rush into a fight with another one of those things unless they get in our grill first. Maybe they don't wanna fuck with us boss ass bitches!" Unlikely, but it'd make their job easier if that was the case. After this bullshit, Cinder had BETTER supply answers. "Maybe we'll get lucky if we keep running around! That worked out in the funhouse!" She offered, optimistic, if only on the surface. In reality, if they didn't find anything soon they were probably better off just leaving. At least if they went back empty handed they still lived, and they could possibly find things out on their own. But the reality was that if they died in here, the only ones who would find them would be whoever Cinder suckered into going in next.
Due to their quick thinking and even quicker moves, the Seekers escaped the beast that had been keen to making them it's prey.
However....
"Psst... Hey... Lady! Ya got a light?"
--- -- -
"I've been chewing on this cig for the last couple weeks but no light..."
Before them, filling the entirety of the intersection, was a single mound of flesh seemingly built into the walls. In what could be considered it's mouth it held a single unlit cigarette. Progress would be impossible unless they did something about it or tried going over it. However, whatever it was it did not attack nor take a hostile motion against them in the slightest."Come on, I'll be your best frieeeend."

"A light? Sure thing famalam." Withdrawing her lighter, Heather approached to light the creatire's cigarette. Once she was sure it was lit she grinned. "By the way, you wouldn't happen to have seen any totally nasty books around here, have you? We're like, totally hoping to find one."
The creature pulled a long dreg from the cigarette, rendering almost half its length to ash in one breath. A deep contented sigh would resonate from deep within it's core as smoke filtered through and out of it's many creases. "Oh fuck yes... I haven't had a smoke in weeks. The wife was trying to get me to stop but... At this point I don't really see much reason to."
The creature would listen to Heather's question and seem to nod in response."Book? Yeah I think I know what you're talking about. This guy came by a few days ago, I think he was carrying a book... Though I... caaaaan't quite remember any of the specifics. If you catch my drift."
Who on earth did this guy think he was, trying to extort her? If she didn't need to save her energy, she'd have Cleopatra blast him right then and there. Instead she rustled around in her pockets, keeping up a fake smile. "Yaaaas, I catch your drift. So how bout this! You can have my box of ciggies and my lighter, 500 of this weird spirit money, or these gross-ass wings if you tell me eeeeeverything you know. But I totes want an answer first, kay' buddy? Compro-diem and that shit, right?"
So one of these mutants had retained their mind, huh? It was interesting to see that one that was actually capable of speech, although only in the same way that it was difficult to take your eyes off of an ongoing trainwreck. Gisèle could only smile fakely at the creature as she watched it grumble over its stick of cancer and negotiate with Heather. She didn't feel contempt or anger towards it just... disgust. Disgust and pity. It was blatantly evident that humans could fall to some very low heights, she was arguably living evidence of that, but watching a hulking mass of overgrown flesh weakly chew on a cigarette and casually start chatting as if nothing was wrong was still pretty sad. Hell, could it even defend itself in a state like this? Even the flies from earlier put up a bit of a struggle before being ground into mush and smeared across the walls: this thing already was mush stuck to a wall!
"Normally I'd say your wife's right; the only reason those things exist is to get you hooked and dependent on a corporation. But it doesn't seem like there's much of economy down here, so I guess that's a non-issue." Gisèle commented as he smoked his tobacco. Her tone was laidback and non-accusatory, her remarks more delivered as casual commentary than actual chiding, though the more she talked the more she made herself wonder how he even got his tendrils on a cigarette in the first place. "Must've had it on him already..." She thought to herself as she leaned back against the wall, falling silent again and waiting for Heather to smooth things over with him. She'd only speak up again when the Tearinjaw brought up the fairy wings.
"Oh, I've got some of those too. I guess they could be used as a snack. Can you still eat?" The Azure Knight reached into her pocket and removed a still-twitching insectoid wing. She'd run it down the side of her corset and scoop up some of the gunk staining it like a dipping sauce, extending it out to him as the pile of bubbling green-and-black guts began to seep off of it and fall to the floor, a mostly blank expression resting on her face as she made the offer. Food was food. He probably wouldn't mind its appearance if he was actually hungry, not if he had looked in the mirror lately anyway.
"Oh... Uh... I was more thinking something more along the lines of taking those fancy ghost powers and shooting me in the face."
The creature did what could be assumed to be somewhat resembling a shrug as it took the carton of cigarettes and put another in it's mouth. Quietly it would wait for a light, gesturing to the unlit cig if Heather didn't catch on right away. Once the death stick was lit, it would reduce it to ash but not before using it to light a second in a move that would frankly seem far to dexterous for such a creature."Mmm, Damn that's good. I dropped so much god damn VC on these things before. Yeah it was all a ponzy scheme but hell, it took the stress off ya know? Mind holding off on the face shooting until I finish these? You can keep the VC and... bug guts? Yeah I'm good on that."
The blob of flesh would merrily hum as it smoked, seemingly forgetting the existence of the two women.
