Even at night the sky was still shaded with the shade of red it seems to have always had, like the sky itself had bled out. Sanj Makami was on his night shift tonight, stationed outside the gates to the town of Malstu which lied inside the large walls that protected it from Shadows. What was even more unsettling to the people was the new portals that appeared around the entrances to the gates. He was ordered by the officials of the government to go check them out, but all they led to was another island that was also called Malstu. It didn’t have a town, and was actually quite smaller. Some people were on it as well, though they seemed to be part of a team that turns that island into a tourist attraction. He had been hiding among the forests watching the people take their tours, so he was not caught. It did not take long for the higher ups to guess and figure that it was some other world, like in stories and fiction. Though he hasn’t gone to observe since. Whatever the hell was going on over there, he was told to worry more about his home; something he wholeheartedly agreed to. He could not let his family go in their hour of need. It was for this reason he took a night shift to watch any activity that might come from those portals. If he had to, he would destroy any threat. He could focus on those tonight since it seemed for the moment the Shadows were not out, and the guards that also were stationed around the front gate of the wall weren’t talking much, so he would not be distracted as he watched the small number of pink glowing portals that float around.
