"Do you love me?"

The city of Junction was under high alert, while it was nothing new for the city to be ravaged by outside invaders or creatures of great power, never have the city's defenses been tested against the power of the collective unconscious. The barriers that had repelled attacks from the most advanced and powerful races in the multiverse would not hold against the wrath of a goddess empowered by Ego. Panic and confusion trickled down from the city's top brass, delaying the response of the JPD as they were unsure of who's orders to follow, or what weapons to use against a literal god. F'Xiong's call managed to preapare them enough to order the civilians inside and start rounding up any and all Seekers they could to begin mounting a counter attack, however this would take time, time they did not have. As Gaia's assault continued, the city's fate grew dark.

Off in Potts-Field the South Team scrambled to regroup and reach Gaia's Core, a cave located to the north west of the settlement. To the north, the North Team would be well on their way to returning to Junction. Gnar having received word of the attack and the need for Seekers, would hurry his team back, hopeing that Lilly, James and Damsel would be enough to hold the beast at bay. Milton, Grubby and Morgasimer would be the first to arrive, first crossing paths with the Civilians from Cog Town who hid among the trees while the members of the JPD that escorted them did their best to draw Gaia's attention from the tower to no avail. To the massive Goddess, their weapons may as well have been cap guns.

"To all Seekers planet-side, this is CWIS! Junction is under attack! The City's automated defenses are holding, but also preventing a full counter offensive. I have temporarily boosted my signal to open a communication channel to coordinate a counter offensive, this channel will not be open long! Lucian, Cassial, Alice and Azule to the south... Lilly, James and Damsel to the north... Milton and Grubby watching over the Refugees... Junction needs you now!"

CWIS's panicked voice would ring through the minds of each seeker on Permanence.

"We do not have much time!"

In a city to the north. An aged hero stands. Memories of a war fought long ago resurface.

He wastes no time, and takes his leave.

"All will love me, and all shall be denied my love!"

Seekers... prepare your battlements and steel your will...Time is not on your side. But perhaps, the cards are...

Milton caught CWIS's message as the energy started coursing through his body once more, his slack mesh skin starting to cling back to his body as they burned with blue streams of power before returning to the flash coloring he was used to. This was it; Junction's fate laid in the hands of the warriors of Ego, a monstrous deity capable of harnessing the same power being their foe in the fight for Junction and the people of Cog Town. His sprint only grew faster as his body took a more sleek appearance to enhance speed, making sure that Morgasimer and Grubby could keep up with him. As they approached the clearing nearest Gaia, Milton took the opportunity to call out to the other teams as he stopped just short of the landing area near Junction.

"This is Seeker Milton broadcasting to all available Seeker teams. We're reaching the clearing below Gaia. Report your locations and get back here immediately. We're going to take this beast down. We'll hold it off until backup arrives. Good luck, everyone!"

"This is it, the truest test of our Personas. Gaia, prepare to fall before the power of indomitable ego!"

Azul had just gotten done rubbing his ear after Fel had run off to get drunk and potentially try and figure out a way to get his People unfrozen from his floor when a voice rang through his head. 'Ugh, here we go again. What's with people on Junction and talking into my head? First the guy with the long nose and...the city's under attack? This couldn't have anything to do with Fel's cryptic ramblings about Gaia right?

...I fucking hate the forest.' With those thoughts pushed to the back of his mind, he decided to respond to the OTHER voice annoying him. Some guy named Milton. Which sounded like a loser name, but whatever. "This is...'Seeker Azul' I guess.
I'm in some village to the south. What's your location, and what's the nature of the enemy?" Considering Azul had been inside the whole time, he didn't know about the Huge moth monster.

I get to flyin' over the hills an' dales there. Really takes me back. Makin' a mad dash through the woods toward the sounds a battle. Covered'n fuggen blood, some of it mine, some of it ain't. Comrades in arms runnin' with me. The feelin' a dread sinkin' like a stone in my gut, not knowin' if I'm gonna live through this one. Really takes me back. They ain't all good places. I'm keepin' up just fine. These old bones're quicker than they look, just creak a bit more when ya move'em. I ain't say nothin' on the move, just think about what I'm doin' fer a couple'a minutes. It gets quiet 'tween us as we get closer. I'm thinkin' the reality start to hit. This is what a battle looks like. It ain't all what it's cracked up to be. Anyone who tells ya there's glory in combat's a damn fool or don't know what he's talkin' about. Or fuggen batshit crazy. A battlefield isn't a good place to be, nothin' good ever comes outta the result. Some folks lay down an' close their eyes fer the last time, that ain't a good thing. I'm here cuz a lotta these people never asked to be. Diff'rnce between them an' me is I been doin' this a while now, this ain't my first battle. Hopin' it ain't my last. Some folks'll say it never gets easier but it does. Ya stop carin' as much, ya stop worryin', cuz ya know if ya lose a coin toss yer gonna hit the ground an' you'll never get back up again an' there ain't much ya can do about it that ain't already happened. But I ain't about to call it quits, I get to be a fuggen pessimist when I'm holdin' my guts in.

I hear the cracklin' a powder boxes as we get closer, must be a whole lotta'em. It don't look like it's doin' much good. But I faced worse odds'n this, I'll be damned if the end'a my story's written by a damn flutterby with an attitude problem. I hear a voice screamin' over the crowd, echoin' over the sounds'a pops an' booms. It knows my name. I ain't even gonna question it at this point, that ain't why I'm here, I ain't here to get distracted. Said I was gonna help protect some jagoffs comin' on a caravan an' that's what I'm fixin' to do come Hells or high water. I hear Milton's voice cuttin' through the people too. Cocky motherfucker. Told'im to cut that shit out. That's the bad part'a bein' a hero. Everyone think it's parades an' feasts an' women an' ale but it ain't. Ya gotta earn it. An' it ain't earned easy. Lotta good men spend their lives earnin' it, most of'em short, all of'em filled with pain an' blood. The cocky ones always die first. So do the heroes.

I finally get up to the green soldier there an' Fish Bowl. Damn kids. This gonna be a hard lesson to learn for'em.
"Don't go countin' chickens 'fore they's hatched," I says walkin' outta the crowd, "Now yer gonna have to back up all that talk with fightin'. I'm tellin' ya kid if ya die on me I'm gonna fuggen kill ya." I says it like the joke it is, just don't come out like it cuz I ain't in a jokin' mood. Don't wanna fight neither. Been dealin' with this shit fer too damn long, I just wanna cut this thing right down the middle, go home an' take a fuggen nap. But I gotta get my work done first.

Ain't no rest fer the wicked. Gonna show this asshole the meanin' a that.

"Our location is on the forest path to the east of the Junction landing plain. As for the enemy... it's a giant moth. This thing is huge, and it's assaulting Junction's barrier. It could break through at any given minute. Keep your eyes open for a short green creature in rogue attire, a figure in scuba gear armor, and a male human with a long scarf and jagged blade. Can't talk much longer. See you there, Azul."

"Roger that, I guess. On my way." With that said, Azul left the village. Great, and now there were giant moths. Ontop of that, he was left wondering what the hell 'Scuba Gear Armor' was. Still, saving Junction had to be worth an increase in pay. He needed SOMETHING to fill the hole that cheap booze left in his heart.

"Whoa, CWIS! This is so cool! Who knew you were so cool!?"

Cassiel would say excitedly, if his screen could show up to the others in the call CWIS provided it would, if not oh well. He was still super energetic about this. Though, he knew things were in a bad spot so he'd quickly relay what he knew about... Things?

"Oh, um, okay! Everyone, listen up I have some, like, important information! What you see is most likely not the actual Gaia! It's, like, an avatar! A physical representation of her will, I assume. Basically, it's not the real her. The real her is in a cave somewhere. We're going to go and try and, like, kill it most likely? Eesh, sounds kinda harsh... But, yeah! If we attack her real self it might impact the battle in positive ways! Well, at least that's the plan!" Cass would say with an energetic nod of his head. Wait, he never introduced himself. "O-Oh, that's right! Names! Um, I'm Cassiel Pendragon of the Pendragon family! If I could give you all fortune readings I would but we're quite pressed for time, sorry about that. But I'm sure none of you will die!" he'd say optimistically. Now, he needed to hurry things up! Lucy was being way too rambunctious and risky!!

"Ah! Also! Miiiiiiiiiiilllllllllwaaaaaaaaard!! Millward! I really, like, need your help over here, okay? So, like, don't panic! I'm right outside of the tiny village that we were pointed towards. I'll be waiting for you here, so please come as soon as you can! Thaaaaaaanks!" he'd call out to Lilly with a somewhat urgent tone to his voice. He really needed her to keep an eye on Lucian for him... Sadly, he doubted he'd be able to get anywhere near Gaia's heart without fainting... Eh heh...

"Anyways, good luck to everyone! Let's all not die or be locked out of Junction when it jumps!" and with those energetic words, Cassiel would hang up if he could. If not, he'd most likely just silence the call or whatever.

The chosen heroes of Permanence's second war for it's freedom had gathered at the foot of Junctions tower... Yet for all their bravado, for their speeches and grand standing, nothing had yet come from it. Gaia's assault on the tower continued and showed no signs of stopping or slowing down. The God of beasts reared back and prepared for another barrage... Surely the barrier would not hold... The end of the eternal city was at hand, and yet... perhaps it was for the best. All stories come to an end, and this would be a grand end.

Had it not been for the large caliber, high explosive round that pierced through Gaia's wing moments before it could fire off it's attack.

Gaia let loose a horrible scream as it faltered in the air for a moment before regaining its composure. A second gunshot rang out above the others as another round homed in on her wings. However this round would take the brunt of Gaia's stored attack, vaporizing it before it could strike home.

"Well... Damn! That was my last shell. Though we now know that the witch bleeds! Jolly good. Yes yes. Well met Friends! We're your back up for the moment!"

"Oh come on now Gnary! Introduce yourself before you shoot the bad guy! Ugh! My name's Damsel, I'm a seeker like you! This is Gnar!... He's not."

The odd duo approached the group rather casually and relaxed given the situation. Damsel holding her demon rather affectionately and Gnar laughing heartily at the scene before him"We were part of the team sent to the north to infiltrate Cog Town and learn if it was a threat... And well to neutralize it should it turnout to be one! Rather good thing we didn't now that I think about it.... Regardless, I do believe our other seeker Lilly is off to the southern group to aid there. I do hope we can hold on until they do... um... whatever it is they need to do..."

Should Milton be close enough he would be able to feel the rage roll off Morgasimer as she looked at the zombified man. However, her rage would be left unfufilled... As Gaia's attention had finaly been pulled form the tower...

"You... You insolent children. Why do you deny my love!? What must I do to make you love me!?"

The colossal insect was at least the size of large sky scraper... It's wingspan blocked out the sun, it's booming voice shaking the earth below and the sky above...

This is a god not just in name... but in stature.

A loud bang fuggen pierces my damn eardrums an' knocks the damn bitch outta the sky. I hunch down as I get the ringin' stirrin' in my head, look over to find me a fuggen zombie! Right fuggen here of all places! I ain't sure what I did to piss off Avandra but she's got a hate fer me like the drows hate showerin'. I pull a bolt outta my gauntlet. Gonna peg this bastard 'tween the eyes 'fore any more dumb bullshit shows up. Then he starts fuggen talkin'. Huh. How 'bout that? So he's a fuggen lich, just my damn luck. But this girl with the gnome hair there sets the record straight, figure I should be focusin' on more important things anyhow. Lich're not he's fuggen helpin'.
"Gonna be bleedin' a lot more when she gets'er ass down here. The fuggare those jagoffs to runnin' South doin'? Fuggen monsters right the hell here, ain't like it's hard to fuggen spot!" They's prolly runnin' fer their fuggen lives. Goddamn candy asses. They're the only ones with the power to fight this big assholes an' they's gotta be 'lil bitches about it. Hope they run into a damn owlbear.

But I grit my teeth an' get back to the job. Start loadin' that bolt into my crossbow there. My dagger ain't gonna fuggen reach from down here, s'what this 'lil sucker's for.
"Hope ya can hold yer own sweetheart cuz this about to get uglier'n I am, an' that's fuggen sayin' somethin'." I squint my eyes at the huge motherfucker, gotta be as big as a damn castle. Just means I got less odds'a missin'. But I line up my shot, if I shoot wrong those damn wings're gonna blow the bolt off course. Gotta lead the shot too. Countin' this as the fourth dragon I ever fought, it fits the fuggen spirit. Her fuggen shriekin' comes down to shake the ground 'round us. Yep, definitely countin' this as a dragon. What can we do to love'er she asks.

By the time the battle had started, James had barely just made it back to the battleground. “Christ, did you try spraying it with insecticide yet?” He sarcastically commented as he made his hurried entry. The gigantic moth looming overhead filled James with an overwhelming sensation of adrenaline – dread and excitement combined. The minor mooks back in the Fungeon and the sewer were one thing, but this? This was an entirely different game. “Oooh… I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss this feeling.”

Right as the ex-soldier joined the fray, the Seekers would be met with another incoming call relayed by CWIS’s boosted signal, this time from a very serious and very upset President.

“This is Seeker Lucian Clarke. To those currently fighting Gaia’s other body, do not burn yourself out in order to defeat it unless absolutely necessary! As my friend Cassiel said, its real body is in a cave to the North, and it’s very possible that once you defeat this body it will instantly move on to the next! It might even try to take over another Seeker, so keep your guard up. Rather than focusing on destroying it, focus on hogging its attention for as long as you possibly can while Cassiel, Lilly, Alice and I deal with its core. I managed to convince it not to attack the inhabitants of Permanence, but… God only knows how long its patience will last. Good luck, and Godspeed.” And then, his feed was cut.

“Jesus Lucy, leave some protagonism for the rest of us.” James chided in his mind, cocking his gun and priming Charon for use.

Lilly would sigh a sigh of relief as she and her team exited the sewers they had been searching. It wasn't like they had really gotten that far... Though enough had happened to startle the girl and she was just glad to be out of it. Though to her dismay, it didn't seem like the time of peace lasted very long as the call from CWIS came through and everyone began reporting in.

At first she'd just listen, shaking a little where she stood. H-how had this gone so wrong? She'd never heard of anything this bad ever happening on any of the worlds Junction had gone to before. Y-yet the very first one she finds the confidence to step out onto is the one that goes so wrong so quickly. She wanted to blame herself, not that it would make any sense to. Though apart of her still felt something was in someway her fault here. Either way most of the messages confused her, she wasn't sure who these people were or the scope of what was really going on. The good person inside of her screamed on about wanting to help, though her body was still stiff and frozen to the spot. Until she heard Cassiel speak to her directly.

"O-o... O-oh, uh. I. I. U-uhm..." She'd begin, attempting a response. Stammering and catching herself up on basically every syllable she tried to utter. Pausing for a moment she'd take a deep breath and close her eyes, trying to find a way to compose herself. "T-this is S-seeker Lilly." She'd begin in quite an embarrassed and nervous tone. "I-I hope everything goes as well as it c-can do for all of you. I-I'm sure together y-you, you can all do well." She'd choke up for a moment, tears starting to well up in her eyes as she tried her hardest not to full on panic. "C-cassiel, I-I'll head your way now... I'll, I'll be as fast as I can." The Jurnil would stop herself from saying anymore, she could already tell that the others on the line would probably be thinking lowly of her right now after how terrified she sounded. Which the thought of it only made her worry more. T-though if her friends needed her, she'd wipe the tears from her eyes and rush off back towards the village, turning briefly around to shout back towards James, Damsel and Gnar as she left. "Y-you all keep safe too!"

Milton nodded to Grubby's attempt at shooting down the moth with a well-placed long range shot and decided to follow suit. From his hip, Milton would unravel part of his mesh armor to reveal a folded energy pistol attached to his leg. As soon as he pulls it out, the structure unfolds into a triangular barreled neon blue gun sparking with energy. With a quick aim, Milton shot three rounds into the air in quick succession intending to take it down. It worked for this Gnarl fellow, after all.

"Opening fire. Morgasimer, you're with me.
Let's bring this beast down."

With a great beat of her wings, Gaia let loose another bolt of energy aimed at Grubby. As it struck he could feel Gaia attempt to pull his Guardian Spirit pulled from him
