| Alfred smiled to himself. Today would be a good day. He had a rich friend willing to fly him to Japan for some parties. Well, even though Japan wasn't particularly known for their parties, they would be once Alfred got done with them. He laughed to himself and stretched, before throwing off the covers and getting ready for the day.
He was quick but efficient in his routine and any deviations in it would cause him to pitch a massive fit, so he was left alone as he prepared himself. Shower, shave, teeth, face, styling his hair, dressing was done with a careful but carefree style. He was supposed to wear a tie, but it was fashionable if it was slightly crooked and loose on his neck. He didn't care if his pants were untucking his shirt or if his socks didn't quite match, though no one would could see if they were since he wore boots. The World War 2 bomber jacket he wore never went out of style. As a matter of fact, he had people trying to buy it off his body and steal it from him in turns. He always politely rejected the offers to buy it and punched out those who would steal it off of his back. He looked into his full length mirror and liked what he saw. He put on his brightest smile and called out defiantly, "Alright Japan, do your worst!"
His challenge was unanswered as Alfred knew it would be. After all, regions weren't alive. Couldn't possibly be. He went down to breakfast. Matthew was cooking, as he knew the boy would be. In reality, Matthew was the older of the two brothers, but Alfred always treated him like the younger brother. Matthew didn't mind.
Arthur the Grump was at the table, reading the morning paper. How quaint! The paper! Of course, Alfred obliged him. How could he not? This was his dearest 'Father' after all. Arthur immediately began nagging him about something, but Alfred ignored it in favor of the golden pancakes on the table, the warm eggs and the cooling sausage. Arthur continued to nag the uncaring man as he went to the Keurig maker and put in his favorite cup, before shoving his mug under it and starting the machine up. Matthew looked over to his younger brother and said nothing.
"Are you listening to me?" the Yorksire accent pipped up from behind Alfred.
"Nope," Alfred said cheerily and turned around to face his father. The eyebrows furrowed even further then they were.
"Well, stop not listening to me," Arthur said irritably. He was always irritable, but today he seemed to be more on edge than usual. Alfred didn't care if he was irritable or not. Soon he would be our of this place and in Japan, where people would certainly appreciate him.
"Sorry Pops, I got more things on my mind than whatever you have to say! After all, I am going to Japan." Alfred returned to his seat and wolfed down breakfast while Arthur stood in the kitchen and complained to Matthew, quietly and bitterly. Matthew said nothing. Why should he? Every time he opened his mouth, something terrible happened to him. He was a ghost in own life and he had Alfred to thank.
Well, I'm off!" Alfred said, once his breakfast was done. He was already packed and ready to go. Ticket printed, passport ready and bags packed. The taxi should be there any minute. Then he could get on with it. Japan, here came Alfred! | |
