I Come From Humble Beginnings [Backstory /Work Thead/ Afternoon]- Sada | AWAKENING

"There is a personal Job I want to work on, I might be gone for a few hours."

Sada sent the email to his benefactor about what he was going to do. He understood clearly that with the investment that Mobius++ made in Sada,  regardless of knowing how he was, he at least gave them the courtesy of letting him know when he was going far. In this case, he was going back "home", or better yet, the place he used called home in the outer rim of Endymion when he lost both the use of his legs. It was his own personal hell, but even when he disappeared, people that were just as unfortunate as he was still had the tendency to be selfless and look after each other, he included. There was basically one woman who dropped dead while being sick as she made it her personal mission as Sada's caretaker when he was a burden.

He remembered her from time to time, that woman.

"..........."

Sada continued on with his gear and things of that nature. He knew that at the beat up town that he was going, the wiring system would act a bit faulty and mess with a few essentials that they were using to keep themselves alive, especially when they have been neglected and haven't received much help from Endymion itself. Those who suffer in silence are never brought to the attention of others, one of the reasons why he secretly hated this city. They became no better than the demons to the fortunate.

As Sada headed outside of Endymion's walls, he started his way onto the run down makeshift town of Nartwitch. It was a place of the damned, the  quiet road that led to Narthwich was a network of vines, grasses, and roots that had taken hold of every bit they could get. Gardens are bustling with insect life who've made their home in the now tall grasses and overgrown bushes. Some doors were shut tightly, others were broken down. Some forcefully, others had simply collapsed under their own weight as the elements continued to eat away at them. Many roofs had collapsed and in some cases had taken the entire building with it. Others looked in decent shape and were simply dirty and filled with bird nests.  But the people who lived in it wasn't the original owners. It was a harder life to live here than the backlight district, taking it one day at a time was the only way to not go insane. An eerie silence had taken over and was only interrupted by the cracking of wood in the wind and the occasional bird who had made its home in one of the many collapsed roofs.

No matter how many animals made their home in this town,  you couldn't help but be overcome with loneliness by looking at it from the inside. Life had not just come to a halt, it seemed to have completely disappeared.

"Heh...home sweet home."

As Sada continued into the rundown town, he started to make his way over to a medium-sized building that had pipes flowing through the underground and side of the building, with a few funneling into wells. It was the water system of this place, the lifeline for the select few who still lived here. This was the job, helping those who were having problems with the pipe system.

"Oi, Petey!"

Sada called out from inside of the rotting building as a boy came up to him.

"Sada, you actually came! And you can walk again! Wow...endymion really is a place of miracles."

Petey's shirt was a nasty mess of holes, muck and dirty stains, hanging from one of his shoulders like a discarded old towels. He was wearing a ripped hoody over his shirt. It's in a fairly good condition, apart from the tears and stains, but at least it helps him stay warm, even if only for a little.

However, his pants were in terrible shape as well. Wear and tear have turned what were once small tears into big gaping holes. But at least he has shoes to protect his feet. Although they're missing laces, a little too small and the left toebox has come loose from the sole. Times were hard, but this small team of selfless people was using their money to help everyone else as they invested in the town, they basically saved up their earnings to pay Sada for this job.

"Dad had to go into the city to call you, I think he's still there, but he left the money behind to pay you. The waters going bad, we aren't sure what's been going on with the filter, can you take a look?"

Sada patted the kid on the head as he immediately got to work, taking a look at the blueprint.

"I was paid to do this job correctly, so I'm not leaving until it gets done. "

With his analytical skills, Sada's method of understanding was much higher than the average bear. He inspected every nook and cranny of the pipe system twice over, they would have never called if there wasn't something completely amiss. However, Sada managed to find the source of the problem, a crack in one of the walls of the pipe that connected to the soil of the dirt. It washed in with the well water and made it dirty and undrinkable.

"Alright, time to fix it....."

He went to work, the way that he moved was like a well-oiled machine, he moved with a purpose around the damaged area as he closed up the cracks with his tools.  Petey watched in awe as Sada worked like magic.

After Sada was done,  an envelope full of cash was given to him.

"My dad should be coming home soon, want to stick around and say hi?"

Shaking his head, Sada started to pack up. "Things were a bit rough since Angelica died, I know he loved that nurse. Just tell him that the next job is free...."

"Sada, she had cancer. You can't blame yourself for that...."

He had no answer for the boy, only waving as he made his last run through of his old proving grounds.  The idea of the inevitable, if Sada was to just accept that, he would still be a cripple. He wasn't capable of helping Angelica because he didn't have the power to do so. Precious things crumple in the hands of those who were unable to hold them.

"But I'll change that soon...."

With cash in hand and a job well done as Sada explored his old haunt he would find it just as rundown as he remembered it. It was a hard life outside the protective walls of Endymion and dangerous living with demons roaming about freely. It took grit, wit, determination and luck to survive out here beyond the infrastructure and safety the city granted. Most people didn't survive for long but humans were a very persistent and tenacious species, stubborn to a fault even in the face of certain death. Anyone on the inside would have called the people out here mad for daring to exist within the hunting grounds of the demons without the Queen's protection or even his own. The people out here were forced to hunker down and hide or run in the case of demon attack and even that didn't work sometimes.

"Awoooooooooooo!"

It was a lesson hard-taught and even harder learned as he would soon find.

The echoing howl began from a distance but quickly closed the gap, from far away to almost all around him Sada could hear the howls of the damned. His mind began to ache. Hushed urgency overcame anyone foolish enough to occupy the streets of Narthwich so openly and as they hurried inside they were swiftly picked off. Amorphous shadows darted out from the crevices in buildings to feed upon them, spewing flames that began to catch the scant townspeople and flammable buildings alight. Sada's brain railed against his skull in pure agony, but it was beginning to make sense to him. The wispy figures began to slough their haze and he could see the hellish beasts for what they truly were... and two of them began to approach him as if sensing his eyes upon them. Low the mongrels bowed with snapping jaws of flame and guttural growls.

But the head pain did not cease. Deeper within his mind something was calling to the young man, crying out to be set free in his darkest hour of need, promising that which he sorely needed and what he had always wanted: Power. The power to take a stand, to accomplish those goals, and the power to save himself. Should he reach out to it he could tap into that Power and fight back... though winning that fight was something else entirely. Unlike the so-called Psyche Terrorists on the inside Sada's appearance would not change while away from the Queen's influence. There were no gimmicks, no tricks. It was man versus beast. Fight or flight.

It surprised Sada a bit, seeing those monsters being so active in the afternoon like that. They still had some time before nights out., but the demons were wising up to that. They only had so much to lose, and yet losing their lives meant that lost everything else. The people in Narthwich were strong-willed, it was the fact that facing against demon meant a lot of difficulties that they couldn't face on their own. The weak preyed on the strong, Sada wanted the power to turn the strong into the ones that were hunted.

"No....."

Even with a "selfish" guy like Sada, he still felt something as he saw people being overtaken by the demons around.

Rage...

Being here long enough made him conditioned to hate.....

Conditioned to hate all of the unfairness that he had to do and even those he could admit that were less off. There was no karma, no kind of full circle, things just happened and there was no sort of redemption cycle or response to it.

But with these thoughts came a massive pain in his head, the whispers got louder and started to form the legible words that answer the call for Sada's desire of gaining power and using it. Running was not an option for Sada, he faced death before.

"Oi..... I wasted a lot of time fixing those pipes so that these people could have clean water. The price just went up, you'll be paying with your lives..."

His words were cold and unforgiving, everything he held dear in his hands, he would hold on to no matter what.

"King Tut!"

With the utterance of the name of his persona, the pharaoh of old times would appear behind Sada as the earth started to erupt from the area to attack the creatures and isolate them from going too far anywhere else. He caged himself with these animals, for right now....he too..... was a beast of pure greed.

With everything falling into place the way that it did, Sada knew immediately that these creatures were strong. But he also knew that the earthen terrain that he made himself had some high walls that these creatures had to go through. He was entrapping them in this space, which would buy some time for him to escape if he did manage to make it over this wall.

With that being said, Sada made his escape chance of trying to climb over the wall, with his speed and wall crawling.

Try as he might the young man could not find purchase on the wall with the hellhounds nipping at his heels. Just as he managed to gain a hold on its side he would be torn down again and again until the pain was too great and Sada lost consciousness. The demonic beasts wasted no time into tearing into his flesh, metal or no, they shredded him limb from limb like their brethren tore into the others of Narthwich. For a second time Sada would die as the two demons growled and snapped at each other, one winning out as it absorbed his essence: his Plume of Dusk. The beast grew stronger, shuddering as it's new form warped into something much more dangerous than ever before with a bellow.


Stronger, more powerful, the demon stood tall above the pack of Hell Hounds and just as quickly as the attack began so would it end. The newly grown demon sunk its teeth into its smaller brother and the others scrambled or otherwise fell in line with the mighty roar it gave. Some were dead in Narthwich but no more than your typical attack. There would be many survivors to continue the harsh life outside the walls and pick up the pieces.

Sada's old friends and what family he had chosen growing up would be there to mourn for him, to hold a vigil for the young man that had grown up with him and escaped that dangerous lifestyle. But no one ever escapes where they come from. They say it's in one's lifeblood. Though his kindness to his people would survive as long as there were people in Narthwich to speak his name, for Sada this happened to be...
