A Reminder [Closed]

"A marvelous find you brought in, Father. Where did you find her?" An eager voice curiously inquired. She could feel probing eyes on her broken figure, but struggled to even divert her gaze at its eager source. She could not move. Could not talk. Could barely even see as her vision shifted between utter blackness and into a blurry reality. All she could do is feel pain, excruciating pain. Each ragged breath struggled to be her last. But the reeking acerbic odor of anesthesia and the sickly smell of iodoform was nauseating. Everything felt so wrong, so splintered...

A rough tone replied, but she still could not see where it was coming from. It was a voice of age, full of exasperation of the woman, but also an ember of threat laced within each word. There wasn't a growl, but a measured amount of cold calm. "Don't get your panties tied, Doc. The Mother Superior hasn't even decided what to do with her. You know how she is. Keep off from her."

"O-of course! You just can't fault me for my... tendencies when such an interesting selection dangles in front of you." The woman faltered back, the creak from the bed was audible when she stood back up. But the girl could still feel the predatory gaze on her, as if hungrily wanting to claim her. "It's not every day you have a specimen like her. I'm sure you understand."

There was only a heavy silence, but the girl could finally begin to fight through the cloudiness of sight. see an old man, bespectacled and in a habit of black, glaring at a woman in white, who only kept glancing at the beeping monitor to the side. Both dotted the room with their presence and neither seemed to be in amicable terms. In this room of white, she could finally see she was in a hospital bed in a ward... strapped in place with leather binds and with a series of tubing jutting out from her very gut.  


"Then rejoice, dear Erler. You may actually get that opportunity." Footsteps tapped across the tiles as they brought closer a new arrival. The priest stiffened at the newcomer of a blonde into the room, shooting daggers across the room as he glared at the woman. Erler, otherwise, was barely containing her excitement with the whites of her teeth flashing in delight.

"What the hell are you saying? She's a kid! She's already been through Hell!" He grit out with clenched teeth and the metallic frame of the bed began to warp from clenching on it so hard. The vehement indignation was emanating from him. The blonde seemed to retain her cool, as if uninterested of his issue, as she locked her gaze on an irate priest. But she finally glanced towards the now awake invalid and merely smiled.

"Ah, my apologies. We didn't mean to wake you. How are you feeling?" She crooned gently as she stepped closer towards the bed, ignoring the incensed priest who was also just now noticing the girl was awake. The fire in his face abated, if only a little, yet it threatened to explode again violently. The girl couldn't speak, no matter how much her mouth tried to utter anything comprehensible and no matter the tears dripping from her cheeks.

"It must be difficult. I understand. Coming out a nightmare like that... It would break anyone." She spoke softly. Her slender fingers grasped cold digits lying near and embedded by the tubes. The girl only looked at her hands, callused, yet soft. Even when the tone was gentle, she felt an odd foreboding from the older woman. Something deep in her consciousness was telling her not to put any stock in her words. But there were some that tugged at her. "But in the end, you have been dealt with quite an unfortunate hand."
