| James Smith“Are you done…? I kinda have something I’m working on here.”
The Biography
| Birth Name: James Smith Aliases: The Alchemaestro, "That lazy shit" Gender: Male Age: "...wait, you're serious?" Birth Day: "We exist outside space and time here, do the fucking math." Arcana: Magys Place of Residence: The Velvet Room Academy Semester: "Funny." Class: "Seriously man, going to school is a waste of time for me."
Sorority: "Dude."
Part/Full Time Job: Unspecified
Appearance: Brown haired, brown eyed, and possessed of an expressiveness that rarely leaves you wondering what is going on in his mind, James’s bespectacled features are plain as day. He traipses about in a long white labcoat covering a matching white shirt and pair of plain black trousers, a velvet blue tie the sole concession made to the usual dress code of the room. The most successful attempt thus far to bring his attire more in line with that of his siblings saw him wearing a blue suit jacket spitefully chosen to be a pale enough shade to be noticeably different, and he still keeps it around for those infrequent occasions where he might be expected to tighten up his dress code.
Personality: Reliable. Hard working. Sociable. These are words that all fail to apply to James. Trying to get him to actually do something is generally an exercise in madness, a trial infrequently overcome without threat or coercion - and even then, he virtually only ever does whatever he’s been coaxed into on sufferance. If he had his way, then he’d be left to his own devices all day, working on his alchemical creations or whatever other project he’s focused on this time. But he works in the Velvet Room. And that means assisting ‘guests’ in ‘reaching their potential’. What a goddamn drag. Give them the usual drivel and be done with it.
He’s not as bad if you’re not expecting anything from him though. Tad dimissive, but good for casual conversation or god forbid, some actual advice on occasion. He shows a real joy and enthusiasm when it comes to his hobbies, and a real willingness to make other people love them as much as he does. Even with the stuff he doesn’t want to do, he approaches it with a mind to get it all done as efficiently as possible with the minimum of exertion required on his part, and a care to make sure he never has to deal with this again. If that means actually fixing a problem...well, as long as he gets the desired result, right?

The Potential
|
Strengths:
—Strength Name: The Amazing Alchemaestro —Description: James is possessed of one grand talent above all others, honed over the course of time immemorial and through the exploitation of all means at his disposal - Alchemy. To transmute and transform, to distill and dissociate, warp and manipulate the essence of things is the craft he has mastered and fallen in love with. This strength lets him provide a service where his talents may be put to good use, manipulating the materials people find into a more useful form for their needs.
—Strength Name: Film Freak —Description: You might think that James only really cares for turning lead into cotton socks or something...and you would be wrong, because the world of cinema is a magical wonderland and anyone that disagrees with the concept of film as a form of art and entertainment is a fucking heathen. He knows the latest releases, all the upcoming showings, and he has an entire wall dedicated to housing everything from Blu-Rays to reels from the era of silent film amassed over his time in existence. Whenever James spends time at BnD Theater, he has the option to reroll which social quality his visit will increase, once.
—Strength Name: Fixes and Workarounds —Description: James has learned to build and create objects and contraptions to see to most whatever mundane and menial task he needs them to, oftentimes in manners that onlookers find incomprehensible and needlessly complex. But whether it’s cooking or cleaning or enacting petty vengeance on those that interrupt him, they do their task flawlessly.
—Strength Name: Projectile Paperweights —Description: Courtesy of many unwanted interruptions, James has developed a talent for throwing whatever he can get his hands on with unerring accuracy, a talent he has demonstrated before on those who have irritated him using everything from pencils to a stone bust of Igor’s head. ...don’t ask.
—Strength Name: Velvet Labcoat —Description: There has long been a tradition of attendants retrieving immense quantities of currency from places that should not have the capacity for it. James turns the tradition to more practical ends, being able to produce a variety of convenient mundane items as necessary, providing him with a selection of common, inoffensive items and a reasonable supply of currency to draw upon. Usually he just turns this towards finding small objects to throw at people, though.
----- ((A floating Strength is a strength you've gained inRP. For example, if you were on a Kendo team for some time, you'd naturally know Kendo which is where this strength would come in. However, be aware, it will not be as strong as any of your actual strengths and is a small plus)
—Floating Strength Name: —Description:
Weaknesses:
—Weakness Name: Price of Premium —Description: If it’s worth buying, it’s worth getting the best. Standard products do the job, sure - but quality is always worth paying for. Especially for products that will last for an eternity. James pays 10% more for items from the Black Market.
—Weakness Name: Perfect Viewing Experience —Description: Plush seats with legroom and armrests you don’t have to share? Check. Enough popcorn to feed a small family for a few days? Check. Enough drink to submerge a baby in? What kind of cheapskate would go without? Oh, and nachos. Can’t forget the nachos. James spares no expense on his film trips, and a trip to BnD costs twice as much as a result. As far as he’s concerned, it’s more than worth it.
—Weakness Name: Incorrigibly Lazy —Description: James’s definition of heavy labour is hiring people off the internet to do all the lifting for him. The fact of the matter is, it is nigh impossible to get him to physically exert himself in any significant fashion, and the same goes for any task he doesn’t really care about.
—Weakness Name: Highly Irritable —Description: Unless you’ve somehow managed to get into his good graces, James’s patience with people is lacking, and his tolerance of them wanes by the second. By default, a person’s mere presence is enough to be a great source of frustration, and many are the people that the attendant has snubbed.
—Weakness Name: Bespectacled Bombardier —Description: You don’t learn to throw things well without getting some practice. Thrown objects are James’s preferred response to anything that remotely frustrates him, and it’s an impulse he will act upon without any reservation if he believes he can get away with it. Dealing with him is often a gauntlet of improvised missiles that demands quick reflexes and an ability to find cover wherever available.
----- ((A floating weakness is one gained in RP. It could be a fear you inherited during RP, or an injury that hinders your character. Some can be temporary while others can be permanent.)
—Floating Weakness Name: —Description:
Soul Bound Weapon:
Weapon Name: Mutus Liber Weapon Description: A book bound in black leather in recreation of an old alchemical text, with three ridges spaced along its spine, with five symbols and the book’s title stamped on the front. Aside from that, the cover is unmarked, and the book is unremarkable. Weapon Image: - Spoiler:
Weapon Attack Type: Pierce Weapon Element: N/A

The Background
|
History:
The Velvet Room - a place where persona users from all walks of life find themselves drawn, ready to receive guidance from Igor and the attendants that serve under him. Each one of these attendants owes their very being to the purpose of the room, created so that they may aid those that find their way within. James couldn’t give two shits about any of that. Not remotely. His existence in the room has brought much tension as potential guests mysteriously found their ways to him, hopes high that he would rise to his duties and take them under his wing - but rarely did that happen. Derision and abuses would unerringly greet these visitors to the realm of Velvet, driving many away into the other of more willing, and frankly, better suited attendants.
Time would occasionally see spirits that captured his own enter the confines of his lab, weathering the initial abuses to worm their way into being tolerated, and perhaps eventually appreciated by the attendant. But the rest of the time, he toiled away with his alchemical projects, minimising his efforts with the world as much as he could engineer. It’s worked out just fine for him so far.

| Changed. Will I need to reroll before I know whether I get the SQ boost, or can I reroll after that's been determined? | |
