The singing of blades, and the clash of steel (Telos)

He bowed his head. He was genuinely ashamed of himself.
"Yes." he said.
He was trying not to cry. He had steeled himself as much before.
"Yes." he said.
"Why do you care?" he thought.

She offered him greater skill.
He wanted to beat her one day. Prove her wrong.
"... yes." he said.

Zaku looked at the boy as he replied and she nodded a bit "Then you will have to train the way I tell you to, and treat the other students with respect..understood? Zaku?" she asked as she walked over and took out a signup sheet "I don't offer these classes for free though...However I expect you to trait hard and to learn, and don't forget....you are my student if you sign this....that means I WILL discipline you if you step out of line understood? and you would be foolish to think that my skills only pertain to weapons...Zaku". She stood there looking at him as she held the sign up paper out to him to take

"Wait. What kind of style...? I can deal with the first, and if I must, i'll stomach the second." he said.

He saw the signup sheet, looked at it, and thought as he considered what signing up entailed, as well as the implied threat.
He grimaced.
"Sure I would. Just one thing... do you happen to have a pen on you? I... appear to be lacking one." he said, the lightest tinge of embarrassment appearing on his face when he put his hand in a pocket with the pen in it, only to find a hole in it that the pen had fallen out of.

She looked at him as he asked questions "What ever style would best compliment the style you know, but the training will not be easy..." she said as she grabbed a pen for him and handed it to him "If you sign that remember, you are agreeing to be my pupil, you will listen to my orders, you will train how I tell you to, and you will show respect...if you try to use these skills for any reason other then self defense or the defense of another who cannot defend themselves, I will find out...and I will discipline you accordingly. Zaku" she reminded him as she stood there crossing her arms as she waited for him to sign.

"What would you recommend then?" he asked.
"... alright. Thanks." he said.
He took the pen, and for the briefest of moments, contemplated what signing meant.
Signing would be a step forward on a new path he could not easily turn back from.

Would he sign?

"Honestly Zaku would train you in the basics...you have little to no form, and you only rely on a style that is honestly not good if the enemy knows you are there....after the basics the choice is yours, Zaku has many books on other styles if you wish to look through them to decide what style after you learn the fundamentals, as well as learn to be a bit more humble about your ability, bragging is what got you here after all Zaku" she said to him as she waited to see if he would sign, honestly it was all up to him, if he decided not to she wouldn't pressure him, but if he did sign she would train him, and she would punish him if he used this training for the wrong reasons.
