Clothes, clothes, clothes everywhere! Different colours, details, patterns... As she dragged me into the clothing store my sight was overwhelmed by the choices before me. However nothing really spoke out to me. Knowing nothing about how any of this worked I turned to the french girl. Why did she help me? What motivated her to go so far for a stranger? Either way I wasn't going to ask such a personal question right off the bat. I extend both my arms outward and say, "Dress me" in the most over extravagant voice I could muster.

Batilde raised her eyebrows in suprise. Wow, he certainly turned eager very quickly all of a sudden. Her mouth would widen into that of an excited smile however, as this was a very rare opportunity. The people around them only stared at the man with weirded out looks. "Ohohoho... Thought you'd never ask." Batilde said with a chuckle before she started poking about in the mens department. Jeans, jackets, t-shirts, jumpers etc. So much to choose from. AHHH! Well, the women's part was even worse, but Batilde had no idea what was actually good on a guy like him... So naturally, she did what she thought was sensible enough... by grabbing a bunch of different clothes of varying color and design before hurrying back to her "test subject." With a wide grin, Batilde looked back at him, with the clothes all lined up on a couch. "Now then... what do you wanna try first?"

I looked at the giant pile of clothes before me with a look of confusion, my right eyebrow twitched at the sight of the intimidating mass. My eyes darted back and forth at the variety presented before me and I didn't know what would go with what. What the hell was all this!? How was I supposed to know what I wanted! I put a hand over my eyes and reach out into the pile. I repeat the process several times until I have one of each type of clothing, if I grabbed a repeat than I would toss it back. I went into the nearest change room and put on the random stuff I grabbed. I came out wearing a tight purple turtleneck and really saggy jeans. After looking in the mirror I was immediately disgusted. "I don't think I'm doing this right... How about you give it a go..."

"Hm? You want me to pick something? Alright then." Batilde said, looking at the pile of clothes thoughtfully, before her gaze focused on her guinea pig. Hrm... something to complement his white hair perhaps? She looked through the pile of clothes until she found a white t-shirt, coupled with a black and red checkered shirt, and a pair of dark blue jeans. "Here. Why don't you give this a try?" Batilde asked Shinji, offering him to pick up the clothes that she had grabbed for him. Perhaps this would look good on him? She of course made sure that these were even the correct size beforehand. Hopefully this would look good on him. And hey, if he liked it enough, then perhaps she could actually buy him the stuff. He had given her something fun to do, so why the heck not?

I take the stuff that she gives me and go into the change room. I walk out with the new clothes and see myself in the mirror. I cock my head sideways as I stare at my new look "Does this look good you think?" I say, unsure of myself. I don't know if this is what it feels like to like something, but I definitely preferred it to the garbage that I picked out for myself. I admit I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought, even though my interest towards clothes was low to begin with. However, at the end of the day I'm probably going to be forced to go back to my uniform.

Batilde looked at the result with a contemplative look, her eyes seemingly scanning him from top to bottom. "Hrm... Maybe the red is a bit much..." Batilde said, tapping her chin thoughtfully. Maybe... She strutted over to the pile of clothes, looking through it until she found a black long sleeved shirt with some fancy, white design on it, and a puffy, blue vest. This was a bit more for the season, yeah? "This should look better... Hopefully."

"Wait wha-" I say as she shoves a new pair of clothes into my face. I thought the red looked OK... but at the end of the day all I've really seen. I walk my way back into the change room and leave the old clothes on a stool in the corner. After a little bit of struggle I get the black shirt on before putting on the jacket. I walk back out and look into the mirror. The mildness of the blue and black really brought out my eyes... Wait when the hell did I know anything about colour combinations! I look over at the girl, waiting for her final opinion.

Batilde looked at the result of her expermentation with a thoughtful expression. Her gaze wandered from the bottom up to the top, before she began pacing around him, looking at his posture, fixing his sleeves, collar and such until she found herself rather pleased with the result. "Oh, yes. Blue is definetely your color." Batilde eventually replied with a warm smile. And she wanted him to remember her. Being the socially inept person that she was, Batilde's mind was set. She would buy these clothes for him. Yes. PAY for them in full. For a stranger. "I think we have ourselves a keeper. Now then... I can pay for it, don't worry. In return... you have to help me find something for myself! "

She would pay for it? Why? What have I done in order to deserve that kind of treatment. I've just met this girl and I don't even know her name. Out of nowhere she offered to take me shopping, help me pick out clothes and know whats to buy them for me. What could spur such a random act? What could I, a total stranger offer her in return? In reality no one has ever actually done something like this for me before. A weird twisting feeling filled my chest as it ached in an uncomfortable way. The only thing I could compare this to was the feeling of guilt, but I didn't do anything wrong. However, it still persisted. I smile, "Sure I'll help, but I don't know much about clothes mind you... I never got your name by the way."

Batilde clapped her hands together gleefully at his response, smiling widely. "Magnifique!" This was great! Maybe he didn't have the best fashion sense, but it didn't matter. All she wanted was a little bit of fun, and he certainly provided a lot of that. "Hoh? Oh, please forgive me. I'm Batilde. Batilde Gagnon." She replied with a light chuckle, as she hung back the undesired clothes from whence they came before the odd duo left for the women's section of the store, Batilde practically dragging the other.

As she's dragging me to the other section I manage to add in "I'm Shinji, Shinji Akira." As we're going through the store I see a dramatic change in the type of clothes on the rack. Suddenly I'm in what was presumably the women's section. "I'm not the best at picking things out, so how about you just try some outfits on and I'll tell you what I think."

"Well, it's a pleasure to have met you, Shinji." Batilde replied with a warm smile. When they arrived, her newfound buddy would express a small concern. "Hm? Oh, sure. I don't mind at all. Just... hold on for a moment." It really wasn't a big deal. Seeing what he had picked out himself, she wouldn't have trusted him with picking out the separate pieces on his own, so it worked out wonderfully anyway. After a couple of minutes spent looking for a good couple of trousers, skirts, blouses, tops, etc. She had assembled a decently sized selection of different pieces to mix and match. After picking out a set of them, Batilde dumped the rest onto Shinji while she herself went into the changing room. Once she had switched outfit, she'd exit, wearing a light Green tank-top, a white skirt with matching thigh-highs. "What do you think?" Batilde asked, twirling around on the spot once before posing a little bit, like you would in front of a camera.

The clothes land on me as she goes to change... when the hell did I become a coat hanger! As she comes out wearing her new outfit I tilt my head on a 45 degree angle. Picking clothes for myself was hard enough but being the judge of someone else's fashion was even harder. I simply couldn't evoke the feelings of "like" or "dislike." However I had to say something or else I'd sound suspicious. Even if I couldn't personally pick one over the other I could at least discern factual pros and cons of each. "The entire piece works well together colour-wise on their own, but in contrast to your blue eyes the green tank top seems a bit harsh."

"Oh, you think so?" Batilde replied, looking at herself in the mirror... He had a point. The blue didn't fit this at all. She picked up a new set of clothes before swooshing inside the changing booth again. Maybe this would be better? A Grey, long-sleeved, knitted sweater, lacking a any sort of collar to speak of. She matched this together with a pair of slightly washed out pair of tight, blue jeans. After fixing her hair just a little bit, she'd open up the door and reveal her new outfit to Shinji

"The white of the sweater along with the jeans goes well with your eyes and hair. Along with the loose collar it creates a certain..." I stop for a second as my eyes narrow before I chuckle and look up at the ceiling. A warm feeling in my chest that I couldn't deny filled me... then left as quickly as it came. It was like a moment of magic. Before I could think the words "It looks good" came out of my mouth. Why? What spurred me to say that? Strangely enough I did like it, if only for that brief moment. I let out an exhale and smile "interesting..." I guess learning to shop amounted to more than I thought it would.
