| ------------ :: Winegums :: ------------ *Munch Munch...*
Alex Tenth sat in front of the television, eating various, colorful snacks while watching a cartoon aimed towards children. He was so immersed in the show that one could approach him without the young man noticing at first. The show in question was about a group of young students, a little bit younger than himself, fighting evil on an episode to episode basis using a variety of weapons and martial arts, with each part lasting for about 25 minutes or so. You know, the typical saturday morning cartoon.
The candy itself came mostly from people that visited the farm. Colorful winegums of different flavors, round pieces of chocolate and small blocks of toffee being the most common of the sugary treats inside the paper bag he was holding, cyan in color. The only pieces of the candy inside the bag he wouldn't touch was the black sticks of licorice, a flavor that he found paticularly bad. Other than that, most of the candy inside the bag was to his liking, hence why he was munching on it so hungrily. Or maybe it was the exciting show that contributed to his eating. It was impossible to tell, really. Only Alex himself knew, and of course, he wouldn't share that information with anyone. Some secrets are best left kept hidden. Other than the noise from the TV, the ranch was rather quiet, with the owners working outside, for now anyway. If anyone would go inside the main building, that's what they would hear. No one would be there to meet them, and as such, one could be justified to call out for help. Maybe, just maybe that would drag the guy from the TV, if nothing else. The noises from the TV itself was enough for anyone to assume what kind of show was on display. | |

| The good thing of having your agency schedule canceled is that you can have enough free time to do whatever you want, as you want. Great, isn't it? Brittany didn't have to feel bad about visiting a bakery early morning or hurry to her next scheduled event at all, and it meant: more time with her pet, Bernie, more time to shower herself and therefore pamper her own beauty a bit, more time to sleep like she wanted to and rest from the agitated first hours of her day. Oddly enough, she opted to go out for a change. Weird, isn't it? She was complaining about being constantly busy and not having time to sleep, and there she was, using her time to leave home once more, rather than...sleep! Undisciplined as always.
She never got to visit East Eden on her day-to-day anyway, so might as well give it a try and experiment something different. Like, taking care of the horses. Brushing and washing their hair, giving them food and whatnot. Okay, not the last part, she was not feeling confident enough for that...yet! It definitely looked easier on the television. Luckily it was not that hot of a day, or she would have to take another shower with so much physical labor.
"Hm...", the owners didn't seem to be around. Actually, to everywhere she glanced at, no one was around, saving for the ranch's house, door opened. "They must be pretty open to visitors", she though before heading for the house's lobby, only to find there was a single boy there, watching TV on his own. Their son, maybe? He did seem familiar, somehow. "Hey, have you seen the owners around? I sort of need them right now...", she asked to the boy who seemed quite..focused on the show being exhibited on the TV. "Oh, you like that? I used to watch it all saturday mornings when I was a kid! I even know the opening theme lyrics by core!" Brittany didn't watch this show anymore, thanks to her current life, but she never stopped enjoying it, and still knowing the lyrics was quiet an achievement she was proud of. | |

| Alex almost jumped up out of his seat when he heard someone speaking to him. "Oi! Don't scare me like that! Geez..." He'd reply in a perturbed tone, quickly shutting off the tv afterwards, giving Brittie a cold stare with crossed arms. "They're out in the back, tending the horses right now. Anything else?" Alex response was cut and dry, not too fond of this woman already. Scaring him like that... And why of course... she would see him watching that. "Hmph... You saw nothing, capish?" His blue eyes would narrow down in her direction as he made a neat fold on the top of his Paper bag full of candy, sealing it. | |

| She said nothing in return, limiting her actions to raise one eyebrow at him and place both hands on her waist. "Reeeally? Honey, I'm not blind, I saw e-very-thing~ Now gimme that!", she quickly picked the remote control from wherever it was (his hand or any other table) and turned the television on again, sitting right next to him. If he didn't want to see the show, fine, but she would watch it nonetheless. What's wrong with him? Is it the puberty syndrome already? "I don't wanna be perceived as a child, I'm old enough to be treated as an adult"? Geez, she wasn't buying it. "Oh my gosh, I totally remember this episode! I've seen this one before! You don't like it? Can I tell you the spoilers, then?", she asked in a half-casually-half-teasing tone. It was nice to have around someone to talk about her preferences in common; that is, if Alex wanted to drop his defenses and talk about the show. | |

| Alex barely had any time to react before the remote was oh so rudely yanked out of his hand. "H-Hey! Give it back!" He would actually stand up, being the noticably shorter of the two, he tried to reach for the remote, but to no avail. Realising that his struggles were futile, he'd fall back on the couch again, making sure there was a bit of space between him and Brittie.
"You better keep this a secret, you hear me?" he'd say after a while as the show continued. He pondered his options for a bit, giving the woman next to him a more scanning look than before, from top to bottom."You can have some of my candy if you just promise to keep your pie hole shut about this, alright? I have a reputation to uphold, you know?" Alex puffed up his cheeks childishly in annoyance, as he held out the small, blue paper bag in front of Brittie, not really paying attention to the show anymore. | |

| She glanced right at him, with a humorous defying look. Was that a threat? From such a child? Oh no, he didn't. "My lips are sealed", she made a gesture as if she was zipping her mouth only to, shortly after, unzip it again. "but remember I saw e-very-thing! And if you keep treating me bad, everyone will know you're oooooh such a baby into Phoenix Ranger Featherman R! Only babies are into that, mwuahahahaha!", she did her best to put on a villain-ésque, deep and scary tone in her voice, but in the end, she laughed wholeheartedly, deciding to pick one of the candies the young man (not so) gently offered to her. She really shouldn't, but well...she had already eaten something heavily caloric that day, what are a few more digits to her calories account? She was feeling a bit hungry, so why not? If you're already in Hell, enjoy and go hug the Devil, right? "Thank you! I knew you're not a brat! And between you and me, if you're a baby for liking it, I'm an even bigger baby!", Brittany winked to him, bringing one of her snacks to her mouth and returning her sight to the TV show. | |

| Oh great... Now she was blackmailing him as well. Not that he could do much... What was worth more? People respecting him there, or her? He'd take the former any day, but he'd like to keep things stable on both ends if possible... Still, this made him furious, but he'd try to keep calm, not wishing to risk this leaking out. "Tch... Fine... Just, here." He opened up the bag, revealing it's contents to Brittie. "R-Remember! You promised." He'd reply, his frown lessening a bit, but it was still there notheless. What was with her anyway? Showing up out of nowhere, only to invade his personal space like this? Oh well, not like he could just shoo her away. This wasn't his property after all. His cheeks would bloss up a light red color, as he got slightly flustered, and a little bit agitated by her words. "I-I'm NOT a baby!" He took a small piece of chocolate, and munched down on it in frustration, using it as a way to cool off a little bit. It wasn't like him to get this riled up, but she had poked a sensitive spot. "I only watch it to learn martial arts..." He said eventually, trying to give some excuse as to why a boy his age would watch Phoenix Ranger Featherman R. A pathetic one, but an excuse nontheless. "So, uhh..." Alex began slowly, thinking a bit. Now that they were at it, might as well talk a little with her, right? It couldn't hurt... hopefully. "...You're here for a horse ride, no?" He'd ask, clearing his throat beforehand. A decent start... could've been better, but small-talk with this lady, while it was an opportune time to do so, he didn't want to, but at the same time, he didn't want her to spread any rumors about him, so the boy would "act" as nice as he dared for now. | |

| Watching this boy act in such awkwardness over such a silly thing definitely made her visit to the ranch worth it. "Of course you aren't one!", she chuckled again teasingly, munching on the snack and quickly swallowing it. Meanwhile, her hand was already on the sack, ready to pick the next target for the girl's teeth. "Actually...I don't know why I'm here? Like, I had work this afternoon and it got cancelled God knows why and I was bored to all hell and I never get to visit East Eden, and I thought to myself 'why not? You never get to visit East Eden', and here I am...visiting East Eden!", by the end of her non-stopping speech, Brittany released another laughter. She had completely forgotten about the horses. "I like the horses, but it's better to leave them to those who're supposed to take good care of them, right? Like, I don't wanna do something by accident that won't do the poor animals any good. And you? Are you the owners' son?", Brittany asked, curiously. It was kind of odd to see a boy on his own here, unless he was related to the ranch somehow. Like, being the child of the couple who run the place or something. Should that be the case, he lived in a very cool place! Better than Vista Square, at least. | |

| Of course not. That was just something she was saying, wasn't it? She didn't exactly mean it, now did she? Judging by her teasing laughter, he assumed such to be the case. But he wouldn't pursue the matter further, as it was behind them now. "You... don't know? How could you not? You went here on your own free will, for crying out loud!" he said with a confused look on his face. Would he ever get how these kinds of people worked? Probably not. "Well, they DO offer horse rides here for a just a couple of dollars. So that's the only reason why you would be here of all places." When she mentioned hurting the animals by accident, he actually gave off a slight chuckle. "Getting cold feet, are we? I doubt you'd actually end up hurting them, unless you want to do so. They're more likely to hurt you than you are hurting them." He'd finish with a light shrug, flicking a small, red winegum into his mouth before leaning back on the couch. "No." He'd answer abruptly, shutting up like a clam regarding the subject of parents. | |

| "Wow, you're so attached to small details! I came because I, like, wanted to! Don't be such a stuck-up!", she smiled at him, though the girl honestly couldn't understand why did it matter if she had a reason to be there or not? Brittany does things at her own pace whenever she feels like it and that's it.
"Hurt me? Noooo! They're too cute for that! ...but now I wonder, a kick from a horse must really hurt. Yeah, maybe I should pass", the girl shrugged, after pondering on it for a bit. It was a good thing she left the horses behind, then. "Hm...you're alone then? Alright. I can make you company, not like I have anything better to do! As in, I came from a bit far, I won't go back just now, right? And don't you dare dismiss me, I know your dirty little secret!♪", she jokingly chanted the last sentence in a humorous tune, leaning a bit on Alex's direction only so she could poke his neck with one index finger like she intended to tickle him and make him flail out of his own embarrassment. Even an airhead like Brittany wasn't truly oblivious to Alex's apparent loneliness, specially after he shut the topic down in a monosyllabic manner. | |

| He was a Stuck-up now? "You could've just said so earlier, you know?" He raised an eyebrow at her before shaking his head in exasperation. Not that it mattered much in the grand scheme of things.
"Haha, yeah, that would hurt. A lot. They're not that violent here though, I can assure you. If a "stuck-up" like me can ride one, I'm sure you can too, no problem." Alex replied with a light chuckle. "If they're as cute and cuddly as you claim horses to be, then why would you be scared?" Then it dawned on him. "...You've never been on a horseback before, have you?" The boy asked with a taunting smirk. If he was right, the smile would grow wider. "Company?" Was that what she was after? Company? "Well, I got some time to kill... so why not?" Not like he had anything better to do, really. | |

| "Hey, halt there, silly mortal! For I'm the greatest Brittany, who's never scared.", she tried to be serious about it, but ended up laughing at her own stupid impersonation. "Seriously now, I'm not scared. I just don't wanna risk having a horseshoe mark on my face. I don't want to be ugly yet, thank you very much. And...I guess no...I never had been on a horseback before..." ~ This revelation, however, made her a bit thoughtful and slightly embarrassed. But only slightly! Almost imperceptibly! In the end, was she scared of getting on a horseback or not? "What about yourself, hm? Don't tell me you have already!", the girl looked back at him with a curious glance. Alex was too small, wasn't it dangerous for a child this short to get up on a big-sized animal like a horse? | |

| "Haha-Yeah right." Alex rolled his eyes with a sarcastic, half-hearted attempt at a laugh. "If you're so courageous, why don't you prove it?" Mostly for fun, that he couldn't deny, to see her struggle on a horseback. Horseriding wasn't something for everyone, that he could agree with, but at the same time, seeing her chicken out like this was a little boring. "Oh, come on! There's a first time for everything, right?" A couple of encouraging words sent her way. Hopefully she could provide with some fun. He may even ride along on another horse if she was good enough.
"Of course I know how to! I know the owners of this place fairly well. They've taught me." Alex would state proudly, with a wide grin on his lips. "I come here quite often actually. The couple that owns this place are nice people." He'd add. Of course, he couldn't just get up on a horse by himself. He needed help, as much as he regretted to admit that. Being short was a major thorn in his side at times. | |

| "Prove it? To you? Tsc, fine! I will do it!", she readily jumped from the couch, as if her words were impulsed by Alex's little attempt of an encouragement...only to sit down as quick as she stood up, almost throwing all her body weight on the couch, laughing like she couldn't really hold it. "...however, not today! You'll have to wait a bit before I put myself to shame in front of you! Ha!", she said, burying her hand into his bag only to return her hand full of chocolate, gums and other snacks. "If I do bad, alright, you can laugh at me as much as you want. But if I do good...you'll have to behave and act more friendly towards me! What do you say?", the girl winked at him. He wasn't a bad boy, and hopefully he wouldn't be so aloof to her and they would be off to a good start. | |

| For a moment, Alex thought that she would actually do it. But of course not, she had to be a killjoy and postpone it. Not that he had expected anything else. "Alright, fair enough." He replied with a light sigh as he leaned backwards in his seat. "Sure. I don't mind." With a quick shrug, the young kid responded. His green eyes would look at her for a moment, as he seemed to be thinking of something. "Hm... I'm Alex, by the way. Alex Tenth." The introduction was shortly followed by an outstretched hand. Perhaps a bit too formal for a simple meeting like this, but he liked to at least carry himself with a bit of respect when it came to matters like these. He'd keep his hand out for a moment, waiting for her to accept the handshake. If she didn't take it though, he would just stick it back into the pocket of his shorts. | |
