| Takeru woke up with a rather abrupt start. He remembered everything. Whatever the prince had done had triggered something within him. He remembered her now. The girl he was looking for. Himawari. That was her name. Himawari Aiba. His big-sister figure, former cadet, and also now dead.
A cruel revelation. Under better circumstances, it would have, in any other circumstance, have been much easier to receive such a thing. Now... he wasn't taking it well. "Hima... i'm sorry I disappointed you like this... I hope I can become a better person..." he thought. Mental apologies to practically everyone he met over the last few days flowed through his mind. Having one more person to apologize to didn't help.
Tears ran down his face until they could cry no more.
"I'll never get to play the piano for Paige..." he thought, as he fingered the one thing he had left in his pockets. The Velvet Key, now useless to him.
He was bound in chains. There was probably no breaking them. All he could do was wait for someone to take him away.
"Please, I don't want anyone to see me like this..." he whispered weakly to himself. In truth though, even though he knew he had done this to himself, he wished he could talk to someone right now. Something to take his mind of his circumstances.
Without anything else on him to distract his mind, all he could think of was nothing but sadness and regret. He hated that. Even if it was just for a moment or two, he wished deep down that someone was there to keep him company. Well, anyone that wouldn't kill him, that is. Then he remembered something else.
"Masa... you would have wanted to see me turn myself in if I told you the truth. You're a cadet, after all.... we would have probably come into conflict eventually. I loved you as a friend... and that tore at me. I'm sorry for hurting you like this..." he thought.
At that point, something in him finally broke. And he screamed something incomprehensible, a wail of despair and regret. By now, he figured, she probably knew. And hated him. He figured that this probably was the cost of his rehabilitation set by the fates: to repent would be to become alone. A fate that he had little choice but to accept.
That was when he heard the door open from behind him. "H-hello? Please, don't hurt me. I'm right here... not doing anything threatning..." he said panickedly. | |
