It was only logical it took him so long to reach this logical conclusion leading to this logical outcome using the most logical tool in his methaphorical toolbox. For now, however, he was still under the influence of the rush, because what he did was not nice, from whatever angle, and that made it all that much sweeter, especially to him. In any case, it was time to reap the fruits of his little extortion, and lead this free man back into freedom.
