What a time to get lost... [Open]

The air would remain tense as the commanding officer glared daggers at the hunter. The hunter would meet the gaze with cool even gaze of his own. The hunter honestly didn't want trouble at the moment; however, if this was going to turn ugly, he supposed he had no choice, but to take action.

Fortunately, before the tension could get too bad Kai acted. Placing himself between the hunter and hostility, the boy spoke to the others. As the hunter listened to what was said, he had to admit he was indeed impressed. In all the time he existed, this was the first time anyone had stuck their neck out for him. The feeling that the action gave the hunter was perplexing and enough to knock his focus off the officer and whispers around it.

Humans...such strange creatures. Maybe he should ---

"...?"

The hunter's thoughts came to an end as he sensed a change in the air. Looking up at the dark clouds, he would watch as they began to shift shape and color before moving out of the area. In an instance, the sky was back to being calm again and with that calm sky, the energy in the area calmed...more or less. With the clouds gone and potentially the chaos with it, the hunter had to wonder if he was back at square one with these people. Sure, the kid was on his side, but the others?

Crimson eyes would level with the commanding officer once more. At first, the officer appeared to not want to comply, but then after observing the hunter a bit more he would give his final decision. Hmph. Is that how he had to play for now? Well then anything to complete his mission here.

"...Fine," the hunter would say in his usual slow fashion, agreeing to play by these humans rules for the time being. After all, he needed to be caught up with the world to perform his duties better, right? In any case, things seemed to be a bit smoother now. The hunter would be cooperative for now. Perhaps this extension of patience was his way of thanking the boy for sticking up for him.

"Now, we need to start cleaning up the roads that way we can start to rebuild. So that's your job..." The commander says, with the direction of this new order towards Kai and Edward "I'm not that cruel, so I'll set a few more people on the task... You three!
He says, calling three trainees that were lounging around after the clouds cleared, up towards the entrance "Your going to help Kai and his new "pall" here with cleaning off the major roads. Use of construction equipment is authorized, but Kai is the only one to use them."
As he said this he hands Kai a set of keys, each one corresponding to the vehicle it goes in.

"Yes sir, We'll start right after we get Edward checked out and evaluated... I hope." Kai says, surprised that he was allowed to use the construction vehicles, if you didn't know how to use them, you could easily cause more damage than you fix...
But he doesn't argue this point as the keys were set in his hand, the commander could change his mind.

After people start going about their business, Kai brings Edward towards the medical section of the barracks. The place was filled with injured trainees, some with major wounds like broken bones and large open gashes, to smaller ones like a minor concussion or bruises and cuts... As Kai walks in a man comes running up, half expecting Kai to be badly wounded "Wait a minute, your not injured, what are you coming in here for? Your taking up valuable space!"

"I'm here to get this guy checked out, found him while wandering the streets trying to find the barracks" Kai says, leaving the "being stitched out of darkness" bit out.

"Well, sit over here." The man says as he points to a crate that has been set up as a spare chair "I'll get someone to look at him once it cams down in here."
He then runs of to help someone stitch a large gash closed on a civilian's arm...

Well, it seemed that things were settled. As soon as the hunter complied to do work in exchange for a place to stay, the commander seemed more “friendly” towards the hunter. He rattled off commands easily enough and even got a few of the lazier soldiers to come over to begin assisting with the task that was given. The hunter took note of the way certain words were said, but for the most part, he remained neutral both in actions and expressions. He wasn’t going to start trouble for no reason. It took too much energy to do that, so he remained cooperative instead.

Even when Kai took him to the medical section of the barracks, the hunter remained non-hostile despite whispers or some of the more fearful moving rather quickly to get out of his path. Instead of reacting in any negative fashion, the hunter simply observed what was happening with a casual gaze here or there. From what he could see, these guys were indeed hard workers and thanks to the battles from before some seemed to be pulling double shifts just to keep up with clean up and the injured. The hunter lost count of how many glazed eyes he saw from those suffering from lack of rest.

These facts were trivial to some, but for the hunter the little things helped him gauge and then react to what was around him. He found this best tactic here was to remain as relaxed as possible lest he wanted to cause this already tense place to explode.

He remained mostly unfocused until the medic came up to them and began to talk. The hunter would half listen to the conversation before obeying the order to sit on what appeared to be a box of some sort. An odd chair, but the hunter didn’t complain as it quietly sat down and then began to wait. As the medic moved to help someone else, the hunters eyes would drift to Kai.

“What…for?” he asked the words vague as he looked around at the wounded. It seemed he could see what the medical section was for well enough, so maybe his question was directed at why he should be checked out instead. After all he felt just fine if not just a bit sleepy still. Was there reason why he couldn’t simply be set to work?

The Hunter's Condition:

"What for? Whadya mean what for? You injured on your left arm..." Kai says as he sits down on the crate as well, thinking "Plus I want to see if your even human..."

A few minutes later the same nurse came back with basic medical supplies and started to treat Edward's gash, which has started to cause a pool of blood on the lid of the plastic crate. "Your lucky you came here when you did." Says the nurse as he finished disinfecting the wound with some type of spray(that lightly stings) "Now, we can do two things here, we can ether stitch the gash closed or bandage the wound. Which would you prefer?"

As the nurse lets Edward decide, Kai quietly called the nurse over, and asks quietly "I need to make sure who he is for a report, so could you do a DNA test to be help me out?" "If I did that without the patients agreement, it would break a few rules in the handbook." The nurse replies, clearly worried about his job. "Don't worry, the commander asked me to do this. You'll be in my report for sure. If I could get your name..." This wasn't a fib, Kai would tell the commander if Edward turns out to be not-of-this-world. Fine, the names Mike. But if I get in trouble for this, I'll do everything in my power to extend your suffering when you come in hear like her... says the nurse as he motions to a injured trainee, clearly in agony with her left leg being broken.

"Deal." Says Kai as Mike returns to Edward, treating his wound in the way Edward wished... Kai went to get his group organized, that way they could start by the time the nurse taking DNA tests, and patching up Edward was finished.

Hm?

The hunter would blink as his crimson eyes shifted to the mentioned injury. He could see the wound, but even seeing it, no pain or concern seemed to register on his face. He would blink again as he looked back at the boy as he sat on the crate next to him. He didn’t seem to be bothered by the company at all. “Point taken,” he would say in his usual slow paced speech pattern.

When the nurse came back with medical supplies, the hunter wouldn’t resist treatment. In fact, he would move the injured arm out of the jacket so that the other could have easy access to the wound. The skin underneath was snowy white and cool to the touch. Regardless of the oddness, the hunter didn’t budge or make a sound as medicine was applied suggesting he had a high threshold for pain or maybe he really couldn’t feel the wound…even if it was causing quite the mess. When the nurse asked how he preferred for the wound to be handle, the hunter wouldn’t hesitate in his answer.

“Bandages fine,” he would respond back in easy tones. Stitches…were hardly ever needed. Not for this creature…no. However, he made no mention of this as he simply waited for the nurse to be done. He did take note that at one point, Kai had called the nurse over to ask him something in hushed tones. While it was unsure if the hunter’s sensitive hearing could pick out the words being said or not, what was clear was that the hunter didn’t seem to not be concerned about their conversation as his eyes focused on the floor of the medical area. The scent and the sound of the injured surrounded him, but he didn’t seem to be listening or focusing on that. His mind in was in a different place.

When Kai left and the nurse approached hunter once more, Sephtis took note that the guy seemed more nervous than before.

“Yes?” the hunter asked in calm tones as he sensed some form of conflict within the other. To his small question, the man flinched a bit before speaking.

“I am..um…going to need to take some blood to make sure everything is all good. Is that alright with you?” he would ask as he tried to give a brave smile. The try told the hunter he was not being honest with the request; however, he understood that perhaps the question had come about from whatever Kai had spoken to the guy about. The hunter would study the other for a moment longer before blinking and looking away.

“As…you wish…” he would say getting a surprised look from the other when he complied without question.


A blood sample and a stitch to his jacket later, the hunter exited the medical area and stepped back into the light of day. His eyes narrowed slightly against the glare as he scanned the area for Kai. Upon spotting the boy, he would begin to drift over so that he could make good on the deal he had made with these creatures.

DNA Test:

"Now, we need to gather the supplies for the job..." Kai says, directing Edward towards where the equipment was stored "You grab the shovels and the pic-axes, and I'll grab the rest of it." he then walks through the compound while grabbing the other trainees and picking up a few hammers (taking a few energy bars from the mess hall also). And then he returns to the entrance of the supplies tent, to see if Edward had finished.
