Subject: The Contractor's Key [Danielle] Fri Nov 06, 2015 8:44 pm
At the end of her day, as she went to sleep, Danielle Brooks would feel herself much more tired than usual, as if she could fall into it as soon as her head rested on a pillow... and it would happen. No matter when it was, how late or how early, as soon as she got into bed, Danielle would immediately fall asleep without even a minute's notice, only having time to say the usual good nights if there were any... and once she did...
She felt as if she was falling freely, uninhibited, though it would not require her to jolt awake, no... her body would not respond as she fell.
And then suddenly, her mind would spring aware, as if in a lucid dream, and she could feel her body enveloped in white sheets that were thrown with a near-certain subconscious reaction to the falling. Around her was a pure white room, reminiscent of a hospital ward that lacked nearly all the proper equipment. Her normal attire was gone as well, replaced with a white gown that fell over her. In front of the girl was a man, dressed completely in a black suit. He bore a long nose, but was alone with her as he sat neatly on a chair, his mouth curled into a toothy wide grin.
"Welcome... to the Velvet Room. I did not expect a guest to show up from your world. My name is Igor, I am delighted to make your acquaintance."
Following this brief introduction, Danielle could look around freely all she wanted, but her legs would not respond to her call. She was stuck in the bed, pretty much, and wouldn't be able to move around much on it aside from scooting herself over slowly. However, the young woman could feel some sort of calmness from this scenery, nothing about it was hostile, and something told her that it was not harmful, in the back of her mind. Just as well, aside from the man in front of her, there appeared to be another presence, just not visible at the moment...

As Danielle laid down on her bed, in an attempt to take a nap, she fell asleep almost immediately. Was she really that tired from last night? Perhaps so, but still, she found herself in a strange, white room, not unlike that of a hospital ward... except there was no equipment to be seen. Nothing else really stood out to her... aside from a man with an abnormally large nose, almost beak-like, sitting in front of her. His voice resonated with her soul... It sounded strangely familiar, and yet she had never heard it before. "H-Huh...? Where am I...?" was the first question that sprung to life inside the young woman's head. This felt very real... Almost like she was physically there. But that was impossible, wasn't it? She had just... fallen asleep... "I-Is this a dream? W-Why am I here?"

Igor chuckled at her question, but did not make a move, as he remained sitting. "You are close. This is neither a dream, nor reality, but a place between those concepts. It is located between mind and matter, a manifestation of the subconscious." He explained calmly to the guest. The long-nosed man was not one for many words, but he still was here to serve, so he would explain.
"It has been a long time since a guest like you has appeared." He lifted a hand to make three cards appear in the air, floating level with the bed, right in front of Danielle. "You have not been called here for no reason, the room is tied directly to your destiny, as you will soon discover. Tell me, young woman, what is your name?"
Danielle would suddenly notice a small notepad sitting on her lap with a long sheet in it. It was like a contract, written in a language she could not understand, except for the very last sentence:
"Do you accept full responsibilities for your actions?"
Beneath there were two simple choice boxes, one displaying "Yes" while the other said "No". Simple and clean. Directly at the bottom of the page, though, there was a clear line for her name, and nothing else. On top of the notepad was a normal twist pen that she could use to write with, and fill out the form. Did it need to be this formal? Well, not quite, but Igor would not reveal the cards set upon them until she had signed and given him the contract back.

Well... that didn't explain much, now did it? Just thinking about it made her head hurt. "A manifestation of my subconscious?" She asked, unsure what to think of all this... It all felt... so very real, and yet... She had just fallen asleep. How could this be anything but a dream?
"A... Guest like me?" Danielle asked slowly... This was just getting more and more confusing by each sentence... So she was a guest here of sorts... Obviously, but what exactly did that entail? Surely this wasn't a place which you could walk in and out of at your leisure, now was it? Danielle sure couldn't fall asleep whenever she wanted, nor could she pick the dreams herself... What was this place? "My destiny, huh...?" Danielle looked at the contract, reading it through it... or at least, she tried. This was not much of a contract, since she couldn't understand anything written on it besides the very last sentence.
- Do you accept full responsibilities for your actions? -
Danielle picked up the pen with a trembling hand, signing her name... She would look at the contract one last time... Well, what else was there to think of? She could very well handle and even more so, accept the responsibilites of her own actions... So, with a less shaky hand this time around, she checked the "Yes" box, and handed the notepad back to Igor. "Here you go... Igor, was it?"

"Not your subconscious, love, but the collective desires of humanity." Igor would not react further until she handed him the notepad, and though he opened his palm and had it float over to it, he simply twirled it slowly, making it disappear with a flourish.
"It is a pleasure to have you in the Velvet Room, Miss Danielle Brooks. Here, I would like you to have a little memento of your visit." A small light shone above Danielle and, should she look up or not, a key engraved with a strange marking would float down slowly onto her hands. "That is the Contractor's Key. Once you awaken to your latent powers, you will begin to see blue doors scattered around your world. Use this key to open them, and you will be able to visit it once again." But it seemed the 'dream' was not quite done yet, as after Igor was finished, the presence that was previously just observing felt stronger, until it was clear that another was in the room, standing next to the long-nosed man.
Simply, a woman with long black hair looked at Danielle with piercing golden eyes, framed into a curious yet somewhat condescending stare. She seemed barely taller than the young woman, dressed in a monochrome fashion, and her stance seemed slightly haughty, but Danielle would notice that this was the source of the other presence.
"Well, for what it matters, I wasn't expecting fate to pick two women for the job. You're Danielle, right? I hope you know what the contract you signed means."
The young woman walked forwards towards the edge of the bed, and the other could see there was no real hostility from her, just some kind of... interest. Curiosity, maybe? Her eyes certainly seemed doubtful, but who was anyone to judge?

Danielle would give Igor a silent nod. She had time to figure all this stuff out later... From what she could tell, this wouldn't be the last time she would come here. As to how she would return... well, that was about to be answered.
Danielle looked curiously at the key. So, this key allowed her to go here? Sounded a bit strange, but she took Igor's word for it. She didn't have much reason to doubt him. Nor did she have much reason to think all he was saying was true either. She would just have to wait, and see for herself once the time came. "Latent Powers?" That part did strike her as odd... She didn't have any powers to speak of. She had a pretty good aim, but that was it. A far cry from something you would "Awaken" to.
"In the flesh... And you are?" Danielle asked the other woman... Of course she didn't know everything that the contract entailed... she couldn't even read the text. But, whatever it was, she would honor the contract to the best of her ability. // I sure hope so too... // Danielle thought to herself. What in the world had she gotten involved in?

The young woman observed with a curious stare, then huffed and got farther away.
"Phillia. You're an interesting one, I don't know why He decided on you, to be honest. But it's time to do your job now. We'll see each other soon. He'll always be watching, from every corner of the world."
The black-haired young woman would raise her hand and snap her fingers, making Danielle feel drowsier by the second. In only a moment, she would fall completely asleep once again, still with the Contractor's Key in her hands. Phillia would turn around from there, looking at Igor.
"I hope you can guide her through this." She quipped with a smirk.
"I only do what my Master tells me to. I live solely to aid, after all." The long-nosed man chuckled as he felt someone else enter the room, but that wouldn't be for Danielle to know... she would sleep soundly for now, with the Contractor's Key by her side.

Danielle nodded in response. "Well, nice to meet you, Philla." She said with a genuine smile, before she fell soundly asleep again... The next time she woke up, she would find herself back in her room... With the Key in her hand.
