Is he? That was something he would probably never know for sure. Afterall everyone tells you something different when you ask them what they think of you...assuming they're all being honest to begin with. ''We can't.'', he would smile wrily. ''Sometimes you can't even tell for sure after you try. But that's a subject of its own.'' And there wasn't really a point in dissecting the matter further. Unless Shun wanted to. ''I do understand what you're getting at, however. I try...sometimes.'' That was enough for now...hopefully. There were times where he did not even consider it, so he was definitely better at it nowadays. Shun would have probably resigned already if this was set a few years ago.

''I'm probably not being as harsh as it seems...otherwise, I wouldn't even bother telling this to anyone, I think...'', he would fall silent for a while, pretty much looking over the teen's shoulder with the position they were in right now. ''Hm, if I may ask...how do you decide who do you give a chance to, and who not? You did say you don't follow the line of giving it to everyone, afterall.'', he would ask eventually, actually kind of curious.

— Yes, I did say that. — He chuckled sheepishly, trying to ponder on what answer he could give to Sharaku without making the man irked. Hm. — Well, first off, it’s the appearance that attracts me. I won’t be a hypocrite and say physical attraction doesn’t matter, ‘cause it does. First impressions are the first pass, what drag us closer or not. However, it doesn’t mean that I’ll stay close to someone just because of that alone. I judge the way someone expresses himself, his interests, his views, his ambitions and credentials, aspects of his personality and upbringing I’ll only get to know over the time, of course. Once I evaluate if said person meets my standards, then I decide if I should give him a chance or not. — He hoped that didn’t sound too harsh on the older. Sharaku did ask for a response, didn’t he? That’s the most honest Shunnosuke could deliver for an answer without sounding too self-centered and self-absorbed in his elitism.

...Now, that is what you call a long list. Well, whatever floats your boat, right? Even though he could not understand the philosophy presented here. It sounded way more nitpicky than needed to him. Still, it was a personal opinion, so he couldn't claim it was wrong...however, he would not do it that way himself. He would hum faintly. ''How would that make you a hypocrite? I personally, do not care about physical appearance very much. While it is a plus, looks are not what truly makes a person. I can't really like someone even when they are attractive, as long as I don't get along with them in other ways.'' What was the point of being good looking, if you were a piece of a jerk, for example? ''I think we just differ greatly in this in general, though. I can't care less about details like those. It's something you find out on the go anyway, without really checking off your list. If I spent my time poking about for all that before even giving someone a chance...I'd probably take so long they'd be planning a wedding with someone else by the time I'm done. That's just me, however. Being really specific on what you want out of a relationship, before you even give it a solid go kind of limits your choices to begin with...I just let things flow as they do every day...If I happen to click with someone, then good for me, I guess.'', he would laugh lightly. ''I suppose props to you for sticking to a guideline like that.''

Yes, looks weren't what truly made a person, Shun agreed with that. But he cared enough about it to decide whether it would be fruitless or not. — Exactly, it doesn't make me a hypocrite since I’m stating right from the start I do care about it. Of course it’s not all I care about, but you see, most people who say appearance doesn't matter are the ones who find some importance in it anyway…hence why I said it’s hypocrisy. — He shrugged a bit. Guideline, eh? Not really. Most of the things he looked for in someone, he found out “on the go”, as he said. Sometimes, yes, a little investigative process could make the informations run quicker, that’s how people do in the high class relations. They check for what’s important and considering the background and upbringing, credentials, status and appearance fall in the category, because "it’s always better to know beforehand who’re you dealing with and establishing relationships with". Hence why he looked back at Sharaku with skeptical and, why not, curious eyes. — Say, if my hair wasn’t trimmed, if I didn’t smell good or dress nicely, or even if I weren't from a prestigious family, would you still think of me as a possibility of something more? Doesn’t all of this help?

Ah, right. That did make sense. ''I see. I guess that makes sense. Though, that could be said for almost everything. When someone says they don't care about something, it's pretty much never completely 100%. People aren't good at abiding to literal extremes. At least, I think so.'' Wouldn't it make almost everyone in the world a hypocrite? Everyone says they don't care about something at least once in their life...and it is always questionable just how true it is. Ah well. That's when you want to be really logical about the matter...which was probably not the point of this conversation.

He would raise an eyebrow at Shun, before closing his eyes with an amused huff.

''...in case of the first few, the difference depends on context. If they have an understandable reason, I wouldn't care as much. Though, if it was because they are simply too lazy to give a damn about their appearance, I might question it. But moreso because of what it means, rather than the looks themselves.'' There is a difference in terms of why do you look the way you look, afterall. ''As for the whole family thing...that is one I really don't care about. You are you, not who your family is. Why should I judge someone based on whether their parents have stacks of money, or are poor? That's rather unfair, in my opinion. You don't get to pick what society level you will be born in. It's a bit dumb to view someone way differently, just because they weren't lucky to be born rich, for example. It just doesn't sit well with me. I'd honestly be more impressed if someone gains a good position by their own work, rather than having it just for being born where they were....if I really had to pay attention to this criteria.'', he would shrug lightly.

''The things do make a slight difference, of course, but not enough for me to write someone off because of them. It's more about how well I get along with said person in my case, with the rest being there as a small influence on the side, I suppose.''

— Hmmm… — Shunnosuke remained thoughtful for the rest of the walk after Sharaku ended his views. One could wander what’s on his mind as he looked forward, merely leaving for his steps to lead his path. “You are you, not who your family is”. He has heard it before, only once, from someone they both knew very well, but to listen to this again, from Sharaku, was…different. A good kind of different, that evoked an almost uncontrollable desire to smile, a feeling of joy inside of him, enough to ignore all the nonsensical jibberjabber about luck and family that came after. If Sharaku said that most importantly is how well he gets along with someone, that undoubtedly means he’s on the right track. — I see… — His tone was giggly, as if Shunnosuke was making effort to restrain himself. That also meant that, if Sharaku were to like Shun, which he already voiced as a reality regardless of the intensity of his affection, he would do it because of Shun himself, not of what he could offer. That was so obvious, how come the teenager hasn’t realized it yet? — I also don’t care too much that sometimes your mouth tastes like cigarette, mister. — Somehow, he was comfortable enough to jester about it, finally looking back at Sharaku, contemplatively for a second, only to smile and lean his head on the taller's shoulder. Words seemed pretty unnecessary by now...

Silence. It was so hard to decide whether he liked it or not. Always. It meant that the talk wouldn't turn into an argument easily, but on the other hand, it also wasn't easy to take a guess what the other side was even thinking. Enough to remain quiet like this. It could be either good, or really bad. Though, what wasn't? There wasn't much to do, however. Sharaku didn't feel like breaking the silence right after he finished speaking, therefore he proceeded to simply wait for Shun to say something as he walked on, looking at the teen thoughtfully. He would raise an eyebrow at the 'see' comment, not sure what to think of the tone it was delivered in. Still, he would wait more until something meaningful was said.

And..eh? ''..Only sometimes? Well, that's an improvement I didn't realize.'', he would chuckle, somewhat amused, despite the fact that he had not expected a statement as random as that one. He would blink a few times at the sudden position change, eventually shifting his arm to wrap around the younger's shoulders. If anything, it was at least more comfortable that way.
