"He's fallen? This is very disconcerting. I was so confident in his assurances that he could handle the problem himself. It pains me that I was wrong and paid the price for this mistake." Crocodile tears were obligatory, even for an inconsequential fiend such as Invidia. But, no matter how much she loathed him, this was truly disturbing news. One fell and it begged the question if the rest would fall like domino pieces and ruin the peace the Queen painstakingly garnered for the City. But Avaritia wasn't particularly worried right now. Where the others may blind themselves with concern and satisfaction with that man's downfall, she was the only one who eyed a different prize. As one fell from their comfy throne, it consequently left behind an empty seat. The District Head gripped the receiver with anticipation and relish as orders began to slip through her very ears from the phone. "Yes, I would be honored. Anything for you, my Queen. I'm glad you see me fit to take further responsibilities. I will not fail you."
The connection was shut off after these words. A smug smile traced itself on her face. It took some time, but finally she got the first step. Who would've thought the enemies of the Queen would grant her such a marvelous gift complete with a pretty bow on top? She leaned back in her chair and pondered. After all these years, a chink in the wonderful facade cracked its way into the open. Now, it was free game for all these rats crawling under the Cadet's noses. That was fine, it was getting peaceful and boring here anyway. After all--
There was a buzz on her phone. She checked it and saw all the trending news about a certain District Head from Vista Square that popped up onto her screen. How quick. Avaritia found herself smiling as she remarked at the screen.
