| Anna Maskelyne
Don't blame the mirror if your mug is crooked. - A Proverb
The Biography
|
Birth Name: Anna Maskelyne Stage Name (Alias): Echo (officially), DJ Last (Underground radio, currently unestablished) Gender: Female Age: 19 Birth Day: 13 of December Arcana: Fool Place of Residence: Central City, Fun Park Plaza Evoker: Mugic Foci Initial Genre: A little bit of everything
Profession: Intern at Radio Central
Appearance: Standing at 5'7 inches, Anna looks energetic and expressive, her red eyes easily capturing attention. Her long brown hair cascades down her shoulders, highlghiting the smirk that near-constantly plays on her lips. She dresses in bright, striking colors, white, red and black being her most preferred choices. On top of her head rests her signature cap - a piece of some military uniform she picked up at a secondhand shop a few years back, the official look contrasting nicely with her otherwise casual appearance.
- Appearance:
Stage Appearance/Mugic Created outfit: Inspired by her own image of a rebel leader, Anna's outfit resembles a black regimental dress of the Renessaince era, with golden badges and medals as status symbols. The uniform, however, is modified in several places to allow for ease of movement. A billowing red cloak and the cap from her usual outfit complete the ensemble.
Still, the most notable part of her costume is most certainly her mask. It looks like it was made from glass shards, creating a broken reflection of the world before her. Two of the shards in the front are triangular and blood red, representing Anna's eyes.
- Stage appearance (doesn't show the mask):
Personality: Curious, energetic and sarcastic, Anna often leaves an impression on those she meets. She often approaches the world with a sort of pointy but laid-back humor, poking and prodding at the little imperfections of the people and the world itself. She loves learning new ideas, meeting new people and trying new things, absorbing those experiences and applying a new spin on them. As a fan of a wide variety of genres, she tries to listen to at least one new song every day.
However, that cheer and energy vanish when she has to conform and restrain herself - at home and at work, most often. In that state, she becomes downcast, frustrated and restless, usually throwing herself into work. Her sarcasm, though usually not voiced for fear of consequences, also becomes much more caustic and antagonistic, revealing a deep-seated distrust of authorities and a yearning to forge her own path.

The Potential
|
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ (Musical Synthesis): Growing up in the central district of a city defined by music, Anna has been surrounded with different melodies all her life, and experimented with many different genres as she grew up. As Echo, her tracks are built upon - and often directly use - the works of many, many musicians who came before her, and she always seems to have an appropriate track or a piece of music history trivia at the ready.
+ (A Nose For Trouble): Anna is a very inquisitive person, and has quite a knack for prying into things she has no business knowing. In particular, her position as a radio intern and a daughter of two high-ranking bureaucrats grants her access to many interesting tidbits of information, and has been a major contribution to her feelings on authority.
+ (The Spirit of Radio): Despite being essentially forced into the job of an intern by her parents, Anna found radio a fascinating invention - it was once used to usher in a new era of music, after all. By now, she knows the ins and outs of a radio device, to the point where she was able to fix an old radio she brought to her basement.
+ (Flair for the Dramatic): Anna has a theatrical streak, and often incorporates that into her performances. She's a reasonably talented actor, and with the help of masks, makeup, and props she can customise her look for any planned performance. And, of course, those skills can be applied in a much more clandestine manner.
- - - - (Disdain for Authority): Life with strict, traditional parents taught Anna one thing - people with authority are not to be trusted. She might play along and do as she's told if she has to, but whenever she feels like she can get away with it, she will stick to doing things her own way.
- (Playing with Fire): Corollary to the above, Anna's current situation can very much be described as "living on the edge". She's an expressive, attention-grabbing person, and working for the government dramatically increases the chances of her anti-authoritarian beliefs being exposed. She has managed to avoid getting into trouble for now, but who knows how long that will last?
- (Headstrong Attitude): Somewhat ironically, despite Anna's desire to see change in the world, she can be very obstinate when it comes to her own opinions. Many of her beliefs are central to who she is as a person, and she will defend them to the bitter end. If she cannot do that, the results are almost certain to be devastating to her.
- (No Quarter): In a relation to the above, Anna is quite bad at negotiation. She finds it hard to compromise - and harder still to empathise - with people with different viewpoints, to say nothing of demons. Her negotiations in practice much resemble gunboat diplomacy - an achievement of overwhelming firepower, not persuasion.

The Background
|
From her earliest years, Anna was a curious child, pestering her parents with questions and getting into trouble. Her energy clashed fiercely with her parents' expectations - both of them held high-ranking jobs in the government of Semibreve, and wished for their child to be orderly, quiet, and presentable. As time went on, they controlled her life more and more. Her interest in music was evaluated and found to be acceptable, but any other hobbies were forbidden and punished for.
Anna didn't take that lying down, of course. She learned to pretend to be obedient, to do the things she enjoyed in secret, to needle her parents without directly disobeying them. As she grew into a teenager, she started spending more and more time away from home, wandering the city and making friends with people from all walks of life. Her parents forbid it, of course, but Anna found more and more ways to evade them.
Eventually, they finally had enough. Once Anna turned 18, they thrust her into an interview for a 'respectable' but ultimately menial job - an intern at Radio Central - and kicked her out of the house on the same day. If she disliked being home so much, they said, she might as well not come back.
Her parents seemed to think she would crawl back in a week, apologetic. But Anna persevered. She found a place to rent - a basement floor under some kind of struggling club. Despite her expectations, a job at a radio station was intersting. Not that she worked with it directly - her tasks consisted mostly of running errands and helping the well-oiled machine that was Radio Central work with no hiccups. Still, the more she learned of radio (gaining a healthy admiration for how important it was for both the city and the civilisation in general), the more interested she became, stating to tinker with small parts and reading books on radio and electicity.
That work culminated in the Black Pearl - an old two-way radio that Anna smuggled into the basement she rented and managed to fully repair. However, with the basement located far below the ground, the Black Pearl wasn't able to catch any surface broadcasts. No, instead it caught transmissions from the mysterious Underground - a place beneath Semibreve, out of the government's reach. That's when Anna knew - this was her chance, her new little act of rebellion. She told no one of her discovery, disceetly trying to catch transmissions whenever she could, and started preparing. One day, the Black Pearl will go on air - a station away from the prying eyes of the government, where Anna would be free to broadcast whatever music she wants.
