"How is it safer? You are surrounded by the government in this little cage that you call a city. Do people keep saying how safe we are discouraged us from leaving, maybe for good reason too? Maybe something here is attracting all of these monsters in this one sensitive and particular spot? Is that why? I would say that there is something within this city that's causing the problem, and if I had even the slightest interest of investing my time for such a fruitless endeavor, I would try to find out what. Maybe fix it, my brother lives here after all...."

After getting his food, Raphael would give it a brief sniff.

"It would have to do....how did your meal come out?"

By the time Raphael had finished speaking Shouhei had almost finished one of his loaded corn dogs and was about to move to his equally loaded fries.

“...It’sh… reery good,” Shouhei garbled in between scrumptious bites. He couldn’t help but notice the dignified but also uptight seeming manner in which Raphael regarded his food. The chewing and swallowing, followed by a couple gulps of beer, gave Shouhei several moments to regard what Raphael had told him.

“...So you’re sayin’ that this city ain’t no safer’n the outside world?” He leaned in closer so that his words were more of a whisper between them. “Ya got theories that the government’s keepin’ us locked in here?”

"Why are you whispering? This is exactly what I'm talking about? This secretiveness, this fear... doesn't this bother you? The fact that people could live this way and yet pretend nothing is going on or wrong. It's when I see things like that, it makes me feel the exact opposite."

Perhaps there was a reason, but Raphael just got her.e He didn't realize it yet, or better yet, this was something that he could hardly notice by being a non-native of Endymion. This was someone who was entering from outside the looking glass on how great those who lived here claimed the city to be.

So far, he wasn't impressed. However, he did humor Shouhei and returned the whisper.

"Didn't you notice? I saw some of the videos on the internet, that Shotaro guy or whatever. You think it's all true?"

“...All I know is that there’s folks runnin’ around opposin’ the government, so it has to be true. But I can’t blame the government for doin’ their job either… if they’re keepin’ us normal folks safe from those demons, then why start some shit about it?” Shouhei whispered again, seeing as how they were on the training grounds for Cadets. He was a bit taken aback about Raphael’s cavalier approach to the matter, however.

“...Just watch what you’re sayin’ is all, especially around here.”

"If you say so..... but if I had the power...well... for starters... I'll try to get rid of this demon infestation. Either that or.... have them act more civil at night.... the streets being painted red at the expense of the girl scouts isn't my cup of tea... I despise injustice as well.. well...hypothetically if everything were to be true. Seeing is believing Shouhei....."

It was at that point that Raphael started to eat the burger.

"I take it back, i'm pleased with this.... thank you..."

If there was one thing that was shown, it was the fact that Raphael wasn't afraid.

“...You’re not wrong in that. If I had the power, I’d definitely get rid of those fuckers runnin’ around like they own the place at night,” Shouhei stared at his open palms for a moment, before they were used to shovel food to his mouth. He did have that power and was going to make proper use of it. Raphael shared his views regarding injustice as well, so it was comforting to hear.

“...Don’t mention it. Grease trucks are great, ain’t they?” Beamed Shouhei as he went on to ravenously devour the rest of his meal.

Politics, and views on the world they live in are some of the things that can lead to closer friendships, or breaking them apart.
Yet even through this could cause contention, there is one thing true friends agree on.
That's a nice burger.
