| Rianara often found herself spending most of her time wandering aimlessly around the slums. During her first few weeks or so worth of living in the Slums, these walking trips did serve a purpose. She learned the layout of the ward as a whole, and got aquainted with her surroundings. Nowadays though, these walking trips was just a manner of which she could drive the time forward, for Rianara didn't have much else to do. Nothing was really driving her forward or to seek out things to do on her own. She was usually one that just tagged along for the ride rather than taking the steps there herself. And these walks, while functionally pointless seeing as there was no need for a robot to be working out or anything, but it got her mind off of things. While the living conditions here in the slums was way worse than back on her homeworld, she vastly prefered Junction over anything else at the moment. There was no shackles binding her to someone else's control. She didn't have to worry about being scrapped either, nor did she need to hide. Perhaps out of habit, Rianara kept herself off to the side of whatever road she was walking on, staying away from the crowd as much as she possibly could. She avoided to look others in the eye, and focused her gaze forward. And the gaze she did carry made it evident for those who actually bothered to look that something was wrong.
As of late, no matter how hard she tried to push them away, people just seemed to want to talk to her for some unexplained reason. They had never really been interested before, so what had changed now? Nothing about her appearance had changed since she got here aside from maybe getting a bit more dirty, but that's it. She had looked roughed up ever since she got to Junction anyway, so it couldn't be that... What was it?

| There was and always had been a certain sense of awkwardness born from uncertainty and self-consciousness attached to the act of walking up to and interacting with strangers. The way Lucian saw it, it was just an inevitable facet of human interaction, much like how seeing others get mildly hurt would unfortunately always be funny, or how seeing mutilated body parts would never not cause people to cringe in pain. The trick, much like in any similar scenarios, wasn’t not to feel what you are expected to feel, but to be able to proceed without much mental backtracking in spite of these emotions; Lucy, being nosy not by choice, but by necessity, knew this better than anyone.
At some point within his time of stay within Junction, Lucian had decided that it would be a good idea to come down to the lower ward frequently. Not something a lot of particularly smart people thought to themselves, he realized that, but he needed some sort of lead into the bizarre wound on the back of his neck that refused to heal even now. He had always been a victim of slow scarring, but never this slow; he was convinced that this wound had been dealt by something specifically designed to make unscarrable wounds… yet a wound fitting that description couldn’t really be deemed as accidental, now could it? Everything he knew about the situation – despite how little said information was – pointed to him having been attacked at some point while he was unconscious. While he couldn’t fathom who he would’ve pissed off to get attacked, the facts did add up to a degree. Initially he thought it might’ve just been a looter in possession of an especially fancy weapon… but everything he had on him at the moment of entering Junction was still with him when he woke up (albeit in an uncomfortably dusty box), so that possibility seemed out of the picture. In the end, the only thing Lucian knew so far… was that he knew nothing. Great.
With little to no information except an obvious location at which to start, Lucian set out to interrogate the residents of the slums… or at least, those that didn’t look like they would outright shank him for looking at their general direction, such as… that one! Formal attire, a sheathed sword, solemn stance… a form of peacekeeper, if he had to wager. Slowly making his way up to her from behind, Lucian cleared his throat to grab her attention. “Excuse me. Sorry to bother you, but, would you mind if I asked you some questions?”

| Ria wasn't really sure what to make of this newfound popularity. The android certainly wasn't very fond of it, but she didn't want to scare them away either. That would really do no one anything good at all, and to be frank, she'd rather have an okayish standing with the locals here rather than a hostile one. While she was more than capable of defending herself should the need arise, Ria didn't necessarily find the prospect of fighting very entertaining or worthwhile. So the more trouble and violence she could avoid, the better.
And again, someone wanted her attention. This man had at least some decency by excusing himself for bothering her, which was well appreciated. A good start. While Ria wasn't too keen on talking with the man, she decided it was for the best to give him a chance and hear him out. "Hm?" Ria looked tiredly up at the man who had adressed her. Judging by his attire, he wasn't from the slums, that much was pretty evident. As to which ward he came from was a bit more difficult to answer, but if Ria had to guess, this man was from the upper wards, if not the richer end of the middle ward. He carried this air of sophistication about him which was pretty much non-existant amongst the people around these parts. That made her feel somewhat uneasy, remembering the magocrats back on her homeworld and how they tended to act. Polite yet subtly toxic when they wanted to be. There was no way he was originally from Athara though. While he certainly was human much like the residents there, the Atharan ”Breed” was a bit more tanned, with longer fingers and generally had flatter noses than his sort. Athara itself was a rather warm planet, mostly consisting of savannas, deserts and djungles, but the similarities between the two varieties were uncanny nontheless. Despite her grievances with the aristocratic feel this man gave off, it was somewhat nice to see a human amongst the cornucopia of aliens, demons and androids from all across the vast multiverse that she had grown accustomed to seeing. Of course, she saw humans every now and again even in the slums, but generally they seemed to stay together, forming small groups and doing their best to avoid contact with anyone else. Maybe that was just a result of living in the slums though. Ria had no idea what the humans were like outside of this one ward.
"Depends on what the questions are about." Rianara replied, crossing her arms in a rather stand-off-ish fashion as she leaned against the wall. That was the usual answer given to that sort of question around these parts. She certainly had nothing against the guy, but it never hurt to be a bit suspicious, considering her poor experience with richer folks in the past.

| Well, at least this one didn’t intend on shrugging him off from the get-go, so it was a good start after all, even if he could sense an indistinct sort of… judgmentality coming from her general posture, expression and stance (or at least, as far as her voice gave away Lucian assumed she was a she). Adjusting his glasses and following up with the pocketing of his hands, Lucian instinctively cleared his throat to speak now that he had her attention.
“Would you happen to know anything about people with… special wounds in this area? I’m conducting an investigation into a very particular matter, but the people here seem to share a spirit of… uncooperativity, to say the least.” When some had straight-up tried to attack or rob him, saying that they were uncooperative was a very generous stretch, but this lady didn’t need to know about his horrible experience with the slums. “If you could direct me towards any individual at all with a wound that’s unable to scar… possibly around the neck area, you’d be doing me an incredible favor.”

| Now that question was one she didn't expect him to ask... Well, if he was investigating the matter, asking around did make sense. Whatever buissness he had with something that strange was beyond her, but it wasn't like answering his question really hurt her at all. "Special Wounds...? Well, there's plenty of remarkable ways to get hurt around here, so mind being more specific?" Had this been on her home planet, Rianara would've just written him off, but considering the nature of Junction, and how it was tied to the multiverse, nothing was out of the question, and as such, she decided to humble him a little bit, if nothing else. At least, he had been rather polite, so she owed him a straight answer. "A wound unable to scar up, around the neck..." She replied thoughtfully... Had she seen anything like it? Well, on her home planet, yes, she had infact seen something similiar to what he was describing. There was this poison favored by assassins and mob-bosses in the Atharan underworld which delayed the natural healing process of the human body. They used to spike people's drinks with it, or coat their weapons with it, as it's effects were pretty much instantaneous the moment it entered the body. And what's worse, the toxin was basically tasteless, so one could ingest it without knowing. Of course, the Magistrate did whatever was in their power to restrict access and production of this dangerous poison. And it's effects lasted for a long time, as long as several months, but... She highly doubted this poison was the culprit. "I can't say I've seen anything like it, at least, not here on Junction. I have seen something similiar on my home planet. There was this toxin used by the crimminal underworld that slowed the natural regeneration process of the body quite severely. I doubt it's what you're looking for, however, as while it's very potent and longlasting, the wounds do eventually heal, it just takes much longer than normal... But In case you need to know, the toxin is extracted from a plant on my homeworld. I can't say for sure if I'm the only one from there who made it to junction though..." Was she the only one? Maybe not. She had never entertained the thought of more Atharans being on Junction besides her, as it was hardly relevant for her existence anyway. | |

| A herbal toxin from her homeworld, huh? Now, Lucian didn’t want to cast suspicion unto someone he’d barely just met, but this woman had earned his interest with that bit of information. “I see… I realize this is none of my business, but would you happen to know how many jumps ago Junction landed on your homeworld?” It should be public information, really, considering it was a subject regarding Junction’s societal infrastructure and he was pretty sure the top ward kept info and records about this sort of thing, but he still wanted to be cautious around such a matter. It could be considered offensive; you never knew. Either way, offensive or not, he couldn’t afford not to learn as much about potential leads as possible.
“One more thing…” Lucian added, turning around to show the woman the wound on his neck, against his better judgement. It resembled the result of being struck by a sharp, hot rock. “Would wounds afflicted with said toxin happen to look anything like this?”

| "I arrived here 47 Jumps ago. A world called Athara, if it rings any bells. Warm place... a world of artifice and politics." Rianara replied, understanding his concerns and suspicions. "I can assure you, I did not do it. I never had any access to that plant myself while there. Last time I did come into contact with it was... well, forty or so cycles on my own planet before I got here. So, no. I don't have any on me. Besides, why would I want to poison you, a complete stranger?" As a robot, that notion didn't make sense to her. She didn't even know of this man until today. Of course, he might think otherwise, and she couldn't blame him.
Rianara leaned forward, examining the wound. "No... This doesn't look like the work of this toxin I'm speaking of. It would look much more fresh, if that makes any sense. How long ago did you get this?" The android asked, now somewhat curious. She had never seen anything like this before. "I'm actually quite curious about this myself now... I haven't seen anything quite like this before." Considering her field of expertise being crimminal activity and countering it, this wound being something never seen before by the android said quite a lot in and of itself. "I'll do some digging around here myself. Not like I have anything better to do. Is there any way I can contact you in case I find something?" Perhaps it was just her old habits of serving that kicked in again, much like they had done in the past here... Despite her reluctancy to get attached to people, she couldn't resist helping them if they needed something. Besides, this man was rather friendly.

| "I've had it ever since I first came to Junction. Nobody knows how I got it; it just kind of... appeared one day."
“Hmm…” Lucian stopped to consider his choices for a second. On one hand she seemed incredibly friendly and cooperative, plus he’d already gone so far as to show her his wound and she still hadn’t tried anything suspicious, but on the other hand… well, Lucian knew it just wasn’t a good idea to go around being so oblivious and showing everyone and everything his wound and personal info. It was incredibly reckless and self-destructive, and no doubt the more he asked around the more unwanted attention he garnered.
That being said… Lucian raised his hands towards his wound, feeling its sting as potent and fresh as the day he’d found it. Its circumstances were just too… unusual to ignore, and if left alone and untreated they could possibly lead to grave consequences. No amount of doctor’s appointments had garnered him any progress in closing it either.
Well, better to have the unwanted attention of the populace than the unwanted attention of the Grim Reaper.
“…Here.” Lucian handed Rianara a small card with his cell phone number on it. “You can call me anytime. Thank you again for your cooperation; you’ve gone much further than you should have to help me.” As he said this, Lucian gave Rianara an honest, pure-hearted smile.
“Well, goodbye then. Thank you again for your time.” Lucian waved as he turned around and took his leave. It was getting a bit late, so it was probably better to head home for the day.

| "I see... That's quite peculiar, I must admit." Rianara replied. She had certainly never heard of wounds appearing out of nowhere. This raised all sorts of red flags.
The android wasn't quite sure what to make of Lucian herself. Sure, he had been rather polite about his request, but there was just something about him that Rianara wasn't too fond of. She couldn't exactly explain why she felt this unease around the man, as it was quite different from the usual discomfort she felt when around other people. But for now, Rianara pushed her suspicions aside, for the mans troubles were certainly intriguing.
Rianara blinked, accepting the buissness card from Lucian. She'd give him a quick nod, stuffing the card away the leather pouch hanging by her waist for future use. "You're welcome. And don't mention it. I was just curious, is all." At least, she certainly hoped so. She wasn't starting to long for friendship, now was she? "Stay safe. I'll contact you if I find anything." And with that, the two walked their separate ways, unknowing of just how different they really were...
