She hated it. Absolutely. To rehabilitate Psyche-Terrorists sounds like a good idea on the surface. But they were also a risk that even the higher-ups had to reconsider. Why did it sound like that they were so sure of its ability to turn people? The Cadet wasn't exactly sure what a rehabilitation meant, but there was a lot of it that she didn't agree with it. It was a threat to everyone involved, a ticking time bomb. At the same time, she could understand. No matter how depraved and dangerous the Psyche-Terrorists were, they were still human. They were criminals, but they weren't demons.

"...how absurd."

She muttered to herself angrily. Her heels were clacking harshly against the hallway floor while moving through the corridor full of sororities. Maria was on her way to her own declining club room. It was at risk of closure, but at least she wanted to head over there to fume a little and to check her own private space in the school a bit. None of this sat well with her, as suggested from her furrowed expression.

It was just her for now in this hallway. But little did she know, someone else would come by.

Reconsiderations (Shiina) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Reconsiderations (Shiina)   Reconsiderations (Shiina) EmptyFri Apr 07, 2017 6:37 pm

Shiina took a deep breath as her dress shoes clacked softly against the tiled floor of the Academy. After her morning nap, she was already feeling far better than during the debriefing earlier, but it's not like the thought still ate at her mind. She carried with her a large navy blue gym bag embroidered with the Tsurinai Family's emblem, hanging from her shoulder with a black sling. As she walked, it sounded like things inside it were clashing and clanging, but it was muffled and hard to hear unless you were especially close. Her destination for today was the Class Zero training hall, but she decided to stop by the Idol Club Room first in order to retrieve her training outfit...

...she didn't expect, however, to hear angry muttering from so close by. Her blue eyes moved instinctively at the nun who had far passed her in the corridor by the time the Wild Card actually had the opportunity to notice her.

//"...yare yare."//

Strength:

From just that walk cycle alone, Shiina could tell something was wrong. Did she get into a scuffle or something? Not like the Tsurinai could say for sure, but she was indeed adept at at least reading people's emotions. Whatever happened was enough to make Maria mad, and the Wild Card couldn't tell if that was normal for her or not... so, might as well pry a little.

//"Senpai."// Shiina spoke loud enough to create some echo in the empty hallway, as she started walking towards Maria. //"What a coincidence to meet you here. I assume you're in an after-school club as well?"// Hopefully the nun noticed her, or else she'd look like an idiot speaking to herself. If she did, Shiina would stop a few feet away from her and place a hand on her hip, then instinctively grew a small, but confident smile. She lowered her voice so it was only audible for the two afterwards, of course. //"Congratulations on your rank, by the way. It's reassuring to know at least one of us got there right away."// There wasn't any hint of lying in her voice, if nothing else. Not that that was enough to stop some from being suspicious, but Shiina figured she was being truthful.

She needed to converse for a little bit before prodding about what she witnessed, though.

Reconsiderations (Shiina) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Reconsiderations (Shiina)   Reconsiderations (Shiina) EmptyFri Apr 07, 2017 7:00 pm

For a moment there, she was almost oblivious to her surroundings. There was frustration and anger that brewed in her. But her hearing wasn't completely dulled when the Cadet heard someone address her. She turned towards the source of that familiar voice to see the Wild Card, Shiina Tsurinai. Maria had a rather surprised look on her expression, she wasn't really expecting anyone here as of this moment. Being self-absorbed in anger had that kind of tendency after all. "Oh, Shiina. H-hi there..."

At first, she felt a little bit embarrassed to exhibit such a behavior. Seriously, the whole affair got to her. Maria breathed in a little and then out before forcing herself to remain calm.

"Indeed," Maria replied back with a nod, "Though I rarely have any meetings..."

It was a rather frank admission, perhaps her frustrations were seeping through. And speaking of that, she still had to deal with the issue regarding her club's own eminent demise. What a busy week. Cadet missions in one night, then an attack in the next with the threat of her own small club being shut down. It was entirely getting to be stressful for her.

She shook her head at Shiina's pleasantries.

Reconsiderations (Shiina) 35VPoCO

"I appreciate it. But, I am just lucky in this instance.
There is no need for congratulations."

The rankings haven't exactly sunk completely into her yet. Being the person to be in charge was rather... frightening. It meant more responsibilities for her. Maria wasn't really used to that, she was more willing to take orders and to eliminate enemies without too much thought. The scenario with Julius was just her not being able to fit in with the Cadets easily due to her different training.

"Are you planning to train?" Maria eyed the gym bag on her person, "His Majesty said to take it easy today. We will be having exercises tomorrow."

Even despite she said this, the Second Class could actually sympathize that kind of restlessness. Failure was scary. If it only affected yourself, then it wouldn't be as bad. But as a Cadet, it meant more than that. Those responsibilities were something that would follow each one to their grave.

Shiina raised an eyebrow at the nun's expression, then her smile stretched minutely. She had definitely caught her off guard, that much was plainly obvious. The Tsurinai just waved a hand in response, but also as a way to see if she was fully there or not.

//"'Makes two of us."// Like it or not, her Idol Club wasn't the most popular thing either; far from it, even. There were only a handful of students who actually held any interest in the art of dancing and singing, so her friends from the official classes in Suzie Q were mainly the only ones that attended.

Though, Maria's reaction to the compliment was both somewhat surprising and at the same time, just as expected. Shiina shrugged.

Reconsiderations (Shiina) 8ovWJTL

//"Having good luck just means you should make the most of it. You made it up there, right? That's all that matters, not how you achieved it. Luck or skill, the difference is how intentionally you succeed."//

She doubted Maria didn't at least acknowledge that she did the job right, be that through mere chance or otherwise. From what she heard, the Belfry team was led by her mostly, so it was no wonder she ended up making it higher than most everyone else.

//"Hm?"// Shiina looked down at her bag. //"Oh, this is just for my usual muscle training. My family won't let me skip a day, so I need to send them a daily report of my growth. Without a personal trainer like I had in Japan, this is really the only way I can get them off my back."// She waved a hand dismissively. Personal trainer might be a bit of a stretch; it was more like a tutor for various degrees of Tsurinai blood, which meant that her cousin and her had entirely different instructors. Still, though, she was one of very few from the side family.

//"Either way..."// Shiina crossed her arms and hummed. //"Did anything happen today? You seem a little more tense than usual. I know the debriefing was serious business, but I figured His Highness' words would calm down most everyone."// She tilted her head in a show of curiosity.

PostSubject: Re: Reconsiderations (Shiina)   Reconsiderations (Shiina) EmptySat Apr 08, 2017 5:50 pm

She returned with a sympathetic smile, as she learned that it wasn't her alone that bore the burden of a declining and unpopular club. Maria would have to find another place to hide her coffin now. The gym might've been alright, but even there she felt like it wasn't going to be a viable place. Though the Class Zero building, maybe it could work if Julius didn't mind...

Reconsiderations (Shiina) 4st4L3K

"I suppose, you're right.
I'm not used to being ranked higher than others.
But I will quickly adapt as needed."

Those misgivings won't go away so easily for her. All she ever wanted to do is answer the call of duty and to follow orders. But if this was what the Lord intended, she'll take it willingly even despite her inexperience and uncertainties. Leading the Belfry was out of mere necessity since she had the training and experience none of her fellow Cadets had back then. She was sure that there would've been someone more capable, at least at first before hearing the reports on the other fronts. But given time, hopefully they will shine brighter than she would. After all, they had a Persona and not her.

"Being in shape is a good thing. It's something important to maintain the longer we work as Cadets. I'm sure your hard work will pay off, as my master once said, it won't ever betray you," she replied with a nod of approval.

Being out of shape should definitely be grounds for extra courses within Class Zero or even expulsion. They were working with and against dangerous forces here, after all. Talking about this reminded her a bit about Lisa, how she was working hard in the gym back then. Would she be working hard still?

"I... I just had a disagreement with him. Especially about dealing with Psyche Terrorists," Maria supplied with some hesitation, "He seems rather keen to rehabilitate them and give them a second chance it seems... One of them came by my home and an attack broke out. I was lucky enough to neutralize the threat before it got any worse."

Reconsiderations (Shiina) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Reconsiderations (Shiina)   Reconsiderations (Shiina) EmptySun Apr 09, 2017 5:41 pm

Shiina only hummed in response. It was pretty clear the sororities weren't the focus here, after all, so there was no more use in further pursuing the topic. Instead, the Wild Card nodded softly and crossed her arms.

//"That's the spirit. Adapting to our surroundings is one of the virtues people have, I'm glad my senpai is beginning to realize that."// The Tsurinai smiled heartily.

Shiina's mind wasn't going to change so easily regarding their positions, either way. Achieving power might be her goal, but she couldn't deny it to the people who deserved it more, now could she? There was something to say about people who willingly sacrificed others for their own gain, and despite the Wild Card being able to understand the reasoning behind this logic, she figured there must be an easier way. People weren't that hard to befriend and influence, after all. Letting yourself be taken by the winds of fate, though... the Wild Card would be unable to say whether she believed in that ideology or not.

//"Once you get into the rhythm, it's not that hard to keep going. I've been doing daily exercises since I was around five or six years old, so I know the benefits of training better than most, I'm sure. Too bad my body isn't really built for physical work, though; I have some cousins who'd likely be able to compete in matches of pure strength with the world's strongest men."// She chuckled softly. //"Though, of course some of our training is mental as well. It's what I focused on back then; the Tsurinai Family has taught me everything I need to know about wielding supernatural powers."//

Strangely, thinking about this also made Shiina's mind wander over to Lisa. How the princess was pushing herself harder than anyone else she knew, just to compare to her more talented siblings... it made the adopted Tsurinai's mind wander back to when she first began training. She was devoid of the talent riddled throughout her foster family's bloodline; she was a commoner, a fake holder of the prestigious name, but that didn't matter to her. Her cousins believed in her, and so she pushed herself harder than anyone else in the estate, just so she could make the family proud. Naito's stoic face, hiding a patient kindness after each and every time he defeated her in training was still burned into her mind. She'd prove to herself and to him that his faith wasn't misplaced... was that how Lisa felt? Knowing that her siblings supported her and encouraged her to push herself... was that what drove her?

Shiina's mind snapped out of its internal monologue as Maria blurted out a very serious issue. The Wild Card stayed quiet as her upperclasswoman spoke, then narrowed her eyes.

//"Senpai... we shouldn't be speaking of terrorist attacks out here. Come, let's move onto someplace private. Your choice, I'll follow, and I'll listen once we're alone."// Her face conveyed seriousness unlike no other. She listened to what Maria said, but there'd be no point in discussing it if they could be overheard by someone with no ties to Class Zero. Regular students shouldn't even have a chance of hearing this. //"The only thing I will say here is... that Prince Julius isn't intrinsically wrong. Though I believe forgiving them is wrong as well, the preservation of life by itself is only human nature. I couldn't care less where they end up, but removing their ability to live removes any chance that they may come to realize their mistakes. That's how I see the world."// Afterwards, she'd follow Maria wherever she wished to lead them, but wouldn't say another word until they were alone.

Reconsiderations (Shiina) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Reconsiderations (Shiina)   Reconsiderations (Shiina) EmptySun Apr 09, 2017 6:31 pm

She sheepishly shrugged at Shiina's praise. It didn't necessarily make her feel any better. It was something that was in a way still self-evident to her. Adaptation was something necessary on this planet. Nothing remained in stasis forever, it can only prolong that time until the inevitable phase of change. It brought up several questions for her. What point of "change" would come to her? And when? For now, she had made the first step to be a Cadet. What was the next? A Royal Guard? Maybe it was an inevitability, or that it was inevitable she would never become one. It was change that made her nervous of what came next, a commonly shared fear.

"Mental exercises, huh...?" Maria repeated with a pondering look on her face. She wondered why Shiina was able to use multiple Personas. What exactly was the Wild Card ability? The Cadet remembered hearing that from the user's own lips, but never could she find anything substantial to illuminate her ignorance on the topic, "Is that why you're able to use multiple Personas?"

She found herself blinking, then realized in her own unfiltered frustration that she did something wrong. How unprofessional. It just revealed what she still lacked despite successfully leading a team in the Dragon's Maw incident. But Maria wasn't sure what to make of Shiina's remark, trying to decide if she really agreed with him or not. Or perhaps it was in the middle. But nevertheless the postulant gave a nod and led her towards her club room.

"Please, come on in."

She allowed Shiina to enter first and gestured her to sit at one of the pair of chairs near the only desk. Maria moved towards the electric kettle that she had stationed at a nearby sink and cupboard. As the device began to work with the teabags sitting near it, her head towards the Wild Card.

Reconsiderations (Shiina) ZKGkP1t

"I don't agree with him, completely. That Terrorist didn't seem to have anything useful to yield to us. To keep him alive is to create risks. Eliminating them should be pursued, especially in regards to our work as Cadets."

Reconsiderations (Shiina) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Reconsiderations (Shiina)   Reconsiderations (Shiina) EmptySun Apr 09, 2017 8:09 pm

Shiina shook her head at Maria's question. What was the Power of the Wild Card exactly? The Wild Card herself didn't know, even if she wished to. She figured she'd come to find out eventually, but right now, it was more useful to learn how to use it rather than where it came from.

//"Perhaps. I can't tell exactly."// The Tsurinai grinned slyly, as if proud of her ability; which she was. //"It's an interesting power, but for now it's easier to use it than question its existence. If it's a gift from God, I'll gladly take it. If not, same thing."// She shrugged in a nonchalant fashion.

Either way, when Maria opened the door, Shiina walked in and readily took a seat, dropping her bag beside her with a thud that revealed the plethora of metallic equipment truly inside it. It was muffled, but the impact made the clings and clangs loud enough to hear.

//"Disagreements are natural, senpai."// Shiina leaned over the table, hands folded over themselves as she rested her nose above them. //"But because you can't see the worth in someone at first sight doesn't mean they can't be... re-purposed. A foot soldier from the enemy army might serve as a live shield in ours, someone to take the blow so our forces aren't diminished. Or maybe, if they're especially ripe with unseen talent, you can turn them into a tool instead."//

Reconsiderations (Shiina) GjPP2sf

//"You believe this terrorist is a liability... I understand. Sit down with me, would you, Maria? Jumping to conclusions when you're this on edge is ill-advised, especially from a person so full of potential as you. Maybe death seems like a good choice now, but wouldn't keeping them behind bars, impotent until we find a use for them, be a better option? Even rats have their own place in the ecosystem, it's only fitting that so do their equivalents in our society."//

Reconsiderations (Shiina) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Reconsiderations (Shiina)   Reconsiderations (Shiina) EmptyMon Apr 10, 2017 4:38 pm

A gift from God.

There were indeed people loved by the Lord more than the others. Some of these signs manifested as the positive result of a scenario or a goal. Others displayed his love by being born with talents and potential that were unlike the others. Maria's case was a complicated one as she pursed her lips in thought of Shiina's reply. But it was something to think about later. Right now, she was talking with a fellow Cadet over an important discussion.

Reconsiderations (Shiina) X3fkXR8

She narrowed her eyes at Shiina at first about her arguments on keeping them alive. Had this been the complete jurisdiction of the Church and not the Cadets, Takeru would have died so long ago and they wouldn't be having this discussion in the first place. But she closed them for some moment of consideration. Then she opened them again. "You may be right... Yes. But that means a use of valuable resources for a potential risk in the future. I don't feel I trust this approach enough after hearing the chaotic nature of the Psyche-Terrorists... and after what happened with the Queen Bee. But... orders are orders. I will put up with it in any case. If it all works out well in the end, then I won't complain."

She sighed and listlessly glanced at the electric kettle, it still wasn't done as evidenced by the unlit indicator. Maria drummed her fingers against the desk as she was sitting near Shiina. "I suppose it is just another test from the Lord that I will have to pass somehow... and an opportunity for me to test out my 'authority'."

The Cadet grimaced at the thought. With rehabilitation, she had little doubt that he would join the Cadets with his abilities. That said, it meant she was going to be even more busy with these growing responsibilities. But that was the price for the power she clamored for those five years ago. It's honestly worrisome, having someone with training that gave her a different ideology and approach from the Prince's. "Help me spread the word to the rest of our colleagues. It's best that they're informed in case anything goes wrong."

Reconsiderations (Shiina) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Reconsiderations (Shiina)   Reconsiderations (Shiina) EmptyMon Apr 10, 2017 5:06 pm

Shiina pondered Maria's response for a few moments, which would likely generate a slightly awkward silence only broken by the Wild Card's soft chuckle at the end. She was surprised, Maria seemed even more hellbent on optimizing society than she was. Wasting resources on keeping rats alive... it was amusing, or would be if it wasn't the truth.

//"Maybe you're the one who's right. It's too early to tell whether this terrorist will really be a risk for us or not. Miss Claire, however..."// She made no effort to hide her name, both of them could know who Queen Bee was at this point. //"She was... a special case, from what I could see. I don't know whether to call her an especially strong Terrorist or a weak-willed Cadet, but her returning to being an enemy wasn't just..."// She snapped her fingers. //"...like that."//

The Tsurinai leaned back afterwards, amusement clearly displayed in her lips. She felt some concern over whether more cases like this would come up, but in the end it mattered little whether they did or not. The Cadets had the forces to stomp out this resistance... and besides, if what Doppelganger said was true, it would only become more and more interesting the more hardships they faced.

//"I wonder which Lord is truly in power here."// The Wild Card hummed and mused. //"A trial by an omnipotent being, or the feud between humanity's deep-seated desires given shape. The Tsurinai Family is well-versed in these Gods of the subconscious, which all but makes me wonder whether they supersede the Catholic God in truth. Would you like me to tell you about them?"// It was true that the Tsurinai family at least was knowledgeable about the supernatural, more so than many other clans in the world. After all, their operatives were already hard at work before the Divide ever happened, and only gained more power afterwards due to already being ready to take on the onslaught of demons.

The Gods Philemon and Nyarlathotep... indeed, they were names known by the Tsurinai. But they never interacted with these Gods, at least not to Shiina's knowledge, and the full extent of their hold on humanity was a mystery. This Tsurinai specifically only knew them from basic psychological training, and so wouldn't be able to tell which governed what side, or even if they did at all. They were simply a curiosity and nothing more, especially for someone who wasn't even an operative yet.

//"Are you sure that's wise? Speaking honestly, I'm not quite certain you should be telling a Class 3 Cadet like me this information in the first place. If that's your call, though, I'll alert my team about it."// Was Maria making the right call? Shiina would give her the time to think before actually pulling up her phone. This was important news, and letting it make it throughout all of Class Zero might be against their better judgment.

Reconsiderations (Shiina) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Reconsiderations (Shiina)   Reconsiderations (Shiina) EmptyMon Apr 10, 2017 8:12 pm

"I have reason to believe she's quite capable. She was a Cadet longer than any of us and she was given command of us initially," Maria supplied as she began to get up. The kettle finally was ready when it beeped once. She began to get up from her seat to finally draw out the paper cups stuffed inside the long plastic sleeve. "But it seems to be there's a third party involved. His Majesty said there could be an unidentified group of Psyche-Terrorists after all."

She wondered who these people were. In the end, they were never able to verify them. And that was a gross disadvantage when they were better aware of their capabilities. There was a reason why the Church rarely practiced mercy, those left alive will always figure out a way to defeat you and that was a risk.

"I have orange, green tea, and lemon. Which ones would you like?" Whichever one Shiina chose, Maria would act accordingly before putting in one for orange. The cups seethed out tufts of steam as they were being filled with water and the respective teabags. She allowed them to steep after bringing them over to the desk. The Cadet found herself raising an eyebrow of these supposed 'Gods', but it didn't hurt for her to explain them to her, "By all means, share."

It didn't hurt to expand one's knowledge, but at the same time she wanted to learn a little bit more about the young Tsurinai. She seemed rather mature beyond her years and even held herself to be reliable and capable. It really surprised her that out of all the people, it was her team that failed. But it was a testament that these Psyche-Terrorists required every Cadets' guard to be up.

Maria dipped the teabag in and up thoughtfully. Then allowed it to fully sink to the bottom as the tag continued to jut out off the rim. "You're right. Perhaps it is best that you keep it silent. We don't want to trigger anything that might undo any results of the rehabilitation."

Reconsiderations (Shiina) ZKGkP1t

"It's simple. Because you are a person of 'that side of the world' just as I am.
We both are aware of the score. You've been training for something like this just as I have.
And I would like to have reliable people available to me as much as possible.
I have reason to believe you're very much the same."

Maria could tell Shiina didn't exactly have a normal upbringing just as she did. The claim about having some kind of mental training didn't sound like what every kid willing do on a general basis. None of the other Cadets actually had a background that really prepared them for any of this, perhaps other than Lisa. She wasn't very sure about the rest of them, but once time comes by, she likely will grow to trust them more.

"Also having an extra eye out helps, especially when said eye is reliable," she finished with a nod.

Reconsiderations (Shiina) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Reconsiderations (Shiina)   Reconsiderations (Shiina) EmptyMon Apr 10, 2017 11:06 pm

//"Tsk tsk. Superior in ability, maybe, but matters of will are a different matter entirely. I feel for her loss, but I can't help but think that somehow she could have avoided it..."// Shiina wagged an index finger from side to side. //"Some times I wonder if we could have possibly prevented this from happening to her... but, I suppose that job fell unto Haru, so it's not something I should worry about. If there are really other people involved in this, there's no doubt in my mind they'll eventually fall to our might."//

Shiina grimaced as she saw the plastic cups, and even more at the selections of tea. This wasn't what she was used to, but simply thanked her gloves for being there to sustain the heat of the tea.

//"Um... green tea, I suppose."// She was an avid drinker of English tea, but during the mornings she preferred Black tea due to its caffeine. Green tea was... fine, but nothing that actually quenched Shiina's palate. Nevertheless, she took a sip, seemingly unfazed by the temperature, and began speaking. //"Well, are you familiar with psychology? Specifically, Carl Jung's theories on it. The Tsurinai Family believes that there exists some force in our subconscious that manifest as Gods that may well interact with the physical world if they wish. Far fetched, I'm aware, but then again we had records of demons before the Eternal Divide ever happened."// Shiina chuckled. //"The scriptures I read stated these Gods as opposing forces. Philemon, the embodiment of our ego, and the masks we wear every day in front of others, He serves as a spiritual guide for humanity that leads us towards the right path subconsciously. He is unwilling to interfere with human matters, however. His opposite, Nyarlathotep, embodies the destructive nature of humanity's collective subconscious, the deception and ill intent behind the masks we wear. He willingly appears in front of his followers, goading them into fulfilling his plans. If Philemon is our spiritual guide, then Nyarlathotep would be a malicious spirit with His eyes on humanity's self-destruction."// Shiina closed her eyes as she spoke, then opened them again at the end with a smile. //"I doubt they're more than legends, honestly. It's not really easy to imagine that some mysterious force is binding everyone's souls together, in a sense. Don't you agree?"//

She took a few more swigs from the tea and let Maria speak her mind afterwards. For those moments, she felt a small pride well up inside her, a kind of pride that told her she had achieved her goal... and a smile crept through her lips.

She was reliable, huh..?

//"I can't tell you how much that means to me..."//

Shiina let herself chuckle internally as she leaned forward and closed her eyes. Someone from 'that side of the world'? Maybe so. Shiina herself wasn't sure if it could truly be called that. She was groomed from birth as not only a perfect soldier, but a defective one. She was told she was a black sheep, but there was no difference in her training from the others in the side family; she was discriminated against socially, but the demands on her were higher than anyone else's because of that. Shiina wanted to laugh, but she refrained. It was true that they were alike, but somehow, she ended up finding a greater use for her friend.

//"I'm glad you feel that way about me, Maria, even despite my failures regarding Alice. Very well, I'll make sure this doesn't get out. Just point me in the former terrorist's direction next mission we take together, I'll help you keep an eye on him."// Nyarlathotep's Wild Card took a sip from her drink, then softly savored it for a few seconds before swallowing as she smiled widely. //"I wouldn't want to disappoint my friend."//

Reconsiderations (Shiina) Empty

"They will have to. The city's safety depends on our success after all," Maria replied as she softly blew on the tea as the steam wafted from its surface. Her thoughts wandered towards the image of the gruesome corpses from this morning's meeting. It felt painful to watch, to feel that feeling of failure.

She silently sipped from her tea as she listened to what the Cadet had to say. The existence of the two gods shared the same kind of dualism that other religions possessed. But what got her interest was the term of "masks" used here to describe them. It sounded like they were somehow connected to them, both the Cadets and the Psyche-Terrorists.

When she finished Maria was silent for a moment, only making another sip from her cup before staring at it thoughtfully, "It is indeed troublesome to have something that plays a hand in our fate and our own decision-making. It makes the concept of free-will sound like a mere farce to use against us."

It was a concept that she never really dabbled very far into to begin with in these five years. Mindless years of training was the only thing she knew when cooped up inside the Sunlake Palms Church. None of that ever mattered when she was busy being beaten half to death by several of her stricter and brutal teachers to discipline and harden her. But Father Jorge had been there to nurture her when she needed it.

"Sometimes legends are just warnings of an existence beyond our initial understanding," Maria continued, "At the same time, they may just be a mere parable that gives us sparse clues of our distant past. Whatever the case, it matters little to me right now. I will eliminate both of them if they happen to be a threat to Endymion."

She said this rather nonchalantly, but Maria was serious. It didn't matter if said enemy was Satan himself. If they stood in the way, they are to be eliminated. It was as simple as that, usually. The postulant cracked a small smile at her, "The feeling is mutual, Shiina. Let's toast. To our future and our success."

She held the cup up towards the Tsurinai and offered to do as she said.

Reconsiderations (Shiina) Empty

//"Indeed. We're the heroes of this city, after all. I doubt there's anyone out there who we couldn't eventually defeat."// Shiina was confident, that much was apparent... even if she had taken a blown to her ego the prior night, it only renewed her determination to better herself. Jinguu was in a mental cage, and so Shiina's emotions would remain clear for the time being...

//"Free will, huh?"// The Cadet Wild Card felt something well up inside her at this concept, and her reaction was to merely bring her cup up to her lips and take a long sip of her tea. //"I've wondered myself how these Gods would play into that subject. It's amusing to think about, but ultimately I don't think conscious decision-making is actually influenced outright by them. In a way... people can already manipulate that in others. Influencing their innermost desires is another aspect entirely."//

Shiina paused as Maria spoke afterwards. The words rang true, but the last part took her a few seconds to fully understand. The Tsurinai looked at the nun with wide eyes after she spoke of 'eliminating' the Gods, apparently in utter disbelief that she'd even consider it... but that didn't last for long. Once it sank in, Shiina's lips curled into a wide grin...

...and she began to laugh.

The laugh wasn't inherently malicious or even mocking, but one of sheer amusement at Maria's words. It was rare for the Tsurinai to laugh so openly, really, especially on such an oddball topic as killing Gods of all things... Yes, it was hilarious to her. After her upbringing, challenging supernatural deities that had hold over the human mind was simply unthinkable, yet here Maria was implying just that!

Somehow, the Wild Card couldn't agree more.

//"Wow, that's the first time I've heard someone be so determined to do their job. You know what you're saying, right? You would kill two Gods if they crossed your path in the wrong way?! My goodness..."// Shiina raised her cup, amusement still present in her stance. //"I can and WILL toast to that! You're an impressive woman, Maria, that much is for sure."//

With a light tap of the plastic cups, the toast was performed, with a small hint of Shiina's nature seeping through to the surface...

At first Maria was confused about why the Tsurinai was laughing. But then she was beginning to realize how ridiculous it sounded in another perspective, about killing gods. Maybe that was pretty far-fetched. It was how she was feeling right now and what she was trained for in the first place. But in the end, she began to grow a smile and sipped the remains of her tea. Perhaps she found a new friend in the Tsurinai.

"My pleasure, Shiina."

They would continue to talk for a while until it was time for either one of them to go.
