| Sanaa ”Yes, human? How may I serve?”
The Biography
|
Birth Name: Sanaa Aliases: SB-01 Gender: Female Age: 15 Birth Day: Arcana: II – Hierophant Place of Residence: Animal Research Facility, East Eden Academy Semester: N/A Class: N/A
Sorority: N/A
Part/Full Time Job: Test Subject
Appearance: The most distinctive feature about Sanaa is the fact that she’s not human. She is an eastern mountain gorilla, smaller than the more famous lowland subpecies. In fact, she weighs only about 225lbs, and stands at 4’6” when standing upright on her squatty, stocky legs. Naturally, her arms are much longer, propping her body in a somewhat quadrupedal pose when she lumbers about on her knuckles. Most of her body is covered in soft black fur, leaving only the leathery skin of her face, hands, and feet exposed.
She has a soft expression with wise brown eyes and a small nose, even for a female. Despite being an animal, she is well-groomed, and when out in public tends to wear a heavy, black leather jacket. The jacket looks like it was stolen from a biker, with silver metal studs lining the cuffs, collar, and hems. There are many pockets and hidden compartments in this jacket, though most notable is the holster for her shotgun, Bullshot, located in the back of the jacket. When loaded, only the butt of the gun sticks out of the back of the jacket.
When not performing, Sanaa is rarely ever seen without her speech-generating device, which resembles a children’s tablet complete with rubber bumpers. Contrary to her rough-and-tumble look with her studded jacket and bestial shape, the device is a sickeningly friendly-looking pastel pink and baby blue.
Personality: Sanaa is a quiet and reserved creature, tending to isolate herself from others even of her own species. While not quite shy, her subservient and submissive nature tends to leave her quashed out of social situations by the more charismatic, particularly in debates and decision-making. It also doesn’t help that her interactions with humans are stifled by her speech-generating device; her fingers are quick, but oftentimes not quick enough to deal with group social situations.
Still, she is unfalteringly loyal, and will dote over those close to her like a mother to her child. In fact, the only time that she doesn’t shy away from a conflict she isn’t obligated to participate in is when she is doing so for the sake of someone else. Orders dictate most of her life choices, and one could easily argue that she has been brainwashed by someone or another, an animal broken and trained to carry out a specific set of orders. They would not be wrong. In fact, if left to her own devices, Sanaa wouldn’t be entirely sure of what to do with herself. Raised in captivity, she lacks most of the instincts and learned knowledge that would keep her alive in the wild, but she is still somewhat unsure of how to interact with humans besides having rudimentary conversations, performing tricks, and following commands. This isn’t to say that she is completely primitive, however; there is a reason she was chosen for the Yachiru Group’s experiments.
On her deepest levels, Sanaa cares deeply for all forms of life. She does not like to see anything hurt, though she also isn’t incredibly keen on punishing those who would hurt others. Still, she knows her strength as an animal and would rather be injured herself than have a weaker being die if she could do something about it. She desires to understand the world around her and have a purpose in her life greater than what humans have planned for her.

The Potential
|
Strengths: (Anything your character is skilled in, such as Martial Arts/ Drawing/ etc? You are allowed a maximum of five strengths and a minimum of three.)
—Strength Name: Bestial Strength —Description: Sanaa may be small, but she’s still a gorilla. She’s much stronger than one might think, particularly while adorned with her Shadow Weapon. (+15% Dex)
—Strength Name: Bestial Wrath —Description: Timid and benevolent she may be, in the right conditions Sanaa can still revert to a wild, raging animal not to be trifled with. (15% extra damage while Enraged.)
—Strength Name: Shieldmaiden —Description: Sanaa would rather see herself hurt than someone else if she can help it, and won’t hesitate to throw herself in the way of a lethal attack if it means someone else will survive. She figures she’s a gorilla, she can take it. (Can intercept lethal attacks a Social Link rank earlier.)
—Strength Name: Two-Fisted Fighting —Description: Sanaa has been extensively trained in the use of her Shadow Weapon, though to a gorilla punching and swinging one’s fists comes pretty naturally too. (Able to make two Dex-based attacks per post.)
----- ((A floating Strength is a strength you've gained inRP. For example, if you were on a Kendo team for some time, you'd naturally know Kendo which is where this strength would come in. However, be aware, it will not be as strong as any of your actual strengths and is a small plus)
—Floating Strength Name: —Description:
Weaknesses: (You must have the same amount of weaknesses as strengths. These weaknesses pertain to you and not your Persona. IE: Physically Weaker, lack of attention span, etc.)
—Weakness Name: Hominid, Not Human —Description: Sanaa may be highly intelligent and could even be considered somewhat enlightened compared to her wild brethren, she still doesn’t seem to have the same depth of psyche as a human. When her Shadow Weapon drains on her spirit, it drains hard. (Skills cost double SP.)
—Weakness Name: Skittish —Description: Tense situations and conflict make Sanaa anxious, as she doesn’t like seeing others hurt and isn’t fond of being hurt herself. The worst stressors are likely to freak her out, and send her either fleeing for her life or flailing like a cornered animal. (20% increased chance of Distress and Enrage ailments)
—Weakness Name: Missing Link —Description: It takes Sanaa a while to really connect with humans, mainly due to the species barrier. For the purposes of benefits derived from Social Links (except that which is dictated by her Shieldmaiden strength), all of Sanaa’s Social Links behave a rank lower.
—Weakness Name: Alternative Learning —Description: While Sanaa is capable of easily picking up physical skills and actions, learning the social nuances of humans can be downright confounding to her at times. Rarely does she ever think of the deeper meaning behind things as she’s doing them; it’s only after she ponders them for a while that she’s able to derive some sort of benefit. (Requires twice as many points to rank Social Qualities.)
----- ((A floating weakness is one gained in RP. It could be a fear you inherited during RP, or an injury that hinders your character. Some can be temporary while others can be permanent.)
—Floating Weakness Name: —Description:
Shadow/Demon Weapon: ((This is the both a Weapon and a Shadow/Demon. You have a parasitic relationship with this Shadow/Demon, and as such you will always want it near you as it is the source of your power. Unlike Soulbound Weapons, this Shadow/Demon Weapon cannot be summoned and will always remain active, meaning you'll have to keep it on you at all times.))
Weapon Name: Hun-Chouen Weapon Description: A pair of studded leather cestuses that fit snugly around Sanaa’s hands, but leave enough of her thumbs and fingertips free to still be dexterous. The spiked studs come in two lengths, though most are around half an inch long. Those protruding from her knuckles, however, are about a full inch. The leather is deep black and somewhat worn, but otherwise well cared-for. Weapon Image: - Spoiler:
Weapon Attack Type: Strike Weapon Element: (Leave this blank. Only special weapons obtain an element behind its blows.)
Side-Arm Weapon:
Side-Arm Name: Bullshot Side-Arm Description: An overpowered 10-gauge pump-action shotgun with a hell of a kick. Designed for use specifically by Sanaa given her animal strength, utilizing buckshot shells capable of tearing through most dangerous game, let alone Shadows. Side-Arm Image: (Not necessary) Side-Arm Attack Type: Gun Side-Arm Style: Shotgun - Scatter Shot - Accuracy is decreased by 30%. Consumes 3 types of ammo at once to fire -must be same type of ammo. Can shoot all enemies with one attack.

The Background
|
History: Sanaa was born in captivity, kept by smugglers that trapped and transported her predecessors from their home. When the smuggling ring was exposed and the gorillas confiscated, Sanaa was one of the few that was young enough to harbor no resentment toward humans, or at the very least not become aggressive on sight. For this, she was sent to an animal research facility, where her intelligence was put to the test and she learned a variety of tricks and human-like tasks. It was in this facility that she learned to use sign language, and was later given a simple Lexigram keyboard with which to communicate.
She learned quickly, and enthralled the scientists with how human she seemed at times. She was moved from simple intelligence testing to deeper psychological studies, some of which were more commonly conducted on human children. With near-constant stimulation of her mind and psyche, Sanaa bloomed in terms of mental prowess. A few of the more trusting scientists working on less dangerous or simpler experiments even trusted her as an aide, having her carry things from place to place or help catch an uncooperative subject.
When the Eternal Divide struck, however, Sanaa's unorthodox but relatively peaceful life changed drastically. Demons and destruction wrought havoc on the research facility, and many of the animals escaped or were killed by the supernatural entities. Sanaa protected herself and her human handler as best she could, and the two managed to escape the calamity with their lives. Low on options, they managed to find their way back to her handler's home, where they holed up until Endymion's rebirth.
Her handler found a new job at a research facility in East Eden, where testing was being done on Shadows and demons instead of animals. That changed soon enough, however, as experiments began to harness the power of Shadows. Sanaa was offered as a prime test subject, seeing as she was not human but seemed to have some degree of a psyche to attract and control the Shadow's power. There was some regret on her handler's part, but the aftermath of the Divide was enough to spur them both into drastic action.

| Add a weight to the character for reference. Be sure to make a combat weakness for every combat strength you have, and note that strengths that are just boosts don't go over 15%, so both the dex strength and the Enraged strength would need a nerf. And while I get your strength of being able to protect people a rank early (note you already can, just you would get the chance to take only 50% once per battle a rank early), but the weakness is not exactly applicable to social links since they are often graded based on how your characters in the end interact. Be sure to try and think up something else based on personality or otherwise for balancing the strength.
One last thing, not too major, but the Yachiru's Group and Forgotten actually originated in the previous plot, and in Endymion they are not bad people because of an AU. It is the Government that is responsible for Forgotten in this world, so if you need to edit your backstory by all means do so so it fits more in the society. Feel free to come back to a mod or me if you want it looked at again. | |

You can lower the SP cost to 15% extra.

For starters, the strength and weakness seem to clash. Would they find themselves easy to take a hit for someone if they apparently have a hard time bonding due to their species?
That being said, still not entirely sure what you mean. Is this meant to be a roleplaying weakness or something in regards to the bonuses you get with social links? Bear in mind you have three combat strengths and should have at least three combat related weaknesses, the 15% dex boost, extra damage in enragement and double attacks. If it relates to the bonuses you get with links then it would affect your ability to get Team attacks at the right ranks and whatnot. Please clarify or change.
—Strength Name: Bestial Wrath —Description: Timid and benevolent she may be, in the right conditions Sanaa can still revert to a wild, raging animal not to be trifled with. (15% extra damage while Enraged.)
I'm not opposed to this strength, but being more easily able to get rage is less a weakness when it boosts your strength even more. I say make it easier to get a single ailment that isn't rage, or take a penalty while under another ailment. The choice is yours. | |
