We Meet Again (Derrick)

    "We had to do some relocating, but as far as I know, the place is still up and functioning." Liz tapped a finger on her chin in thought, almost as if attempting to double check her information in her own head.

    Derrick snorted slightly at that word. "Relocating". What a polite way to put it. The disaster back then left the place in shambles, hardly fit for alley cats to live in. "Forced eviction" was a better term. Ah well. At least it made them move somewhere more in the public view. That had been good for most of the people there, assuming the families they went to were as nice as they appeared.

    "But what've you been doing?" Liz cut in. "Don't tell me you've been going here for the past five years now...?"

Maria nodded at Liz's answer, but she found herself raising an eyebrow at Derrick. There appeared to be something more to it. It sounded as if it was something to the boy's distaste. What exactly it was, the nun had no idea. But since she was assured that the orphanage was doing fine, Maria didn't want to assume too much. Yet, her curiosity got the better of her. "What's the matter, Derrick?"

The girl laughed softly when the boy's former caretaker asked about her own lot. Keeping in mind of what had happened so far to her, she clearly decided to show that nothing horrible had transpired. There was no need for people like them to be concerned for her. Yes, she didn't need to show weakness.


She beamed a smile at them both, but the most perceptive would notice there was something more to it and something artificial. But she shouldered her coffin once more, it felt like it was time for her to go. "I hate to break it off now, but I'm needed somewhere in the school. It's nice to hear you two are doing well. Let's meet again someday, alright? And please, have my number and call me when you need anything."

If she hasn't exchanged numbers five years ago, then she would have done it now. With that done, Maria waved and began to depart.
