| The sun was just about to set as Batilde stepped off the bus in Sunlake palms. She had been out all day in town with friends and just had a pretty good time. Unfortunately (Or perhaps fortunately, depending on your point of view), the bus Batilde had to take to get home stopped in Sunlake Palms, where she had to walk a pretty sizable distance through it to get to another bus-stop where she could get to East Eden. That was probably the worst part about living so far away from everything. It took foreeeever to get anywhere, with how many times she'd have to switch buses to get from the Backlight all the way to East Eden. It was ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. But there was really nothing she could do about that, aside from avoiding that part of town altogether, which wasn't really an option when she went there with a few of her classmates every week. And in all honesty, it was worth the extra trip, considering just how much fun she had there.
And it was around this time when she passed that same house where she met Derrick for the first time. It had been a few days since then, but she still remembered who he was. After all, the younger guy had helped Batilde find her way to East Eden. Hoping that she'd find him again, Batilde looked around the premises, perhaps in vain, after a sign of the young photographer. | |

| Home. Home. Home.
The thought repeated itself in Derrick's mind as he walked as quickly as he could down the street. The sun was about to set. Nighttime was nearly sweeping over the area. And he needed to get home now.
Derrick had a lot of opinions about the dark. It was boring, on one hand; there was no color, no shape, nothing. Very, very boring. It made doing his hobbies so much more difficult. On top of those two atrocities, it was very, very hard to move in. ...Well, not quite that difficult. However, eight times out of ten when walking in the dark, he had to rely more and more on his sense of touch to get him where he needed to be, and when cars, rapists, and other hazards were exceedingly rampant, that limitation made him uncomfortable.
The thought made him slow his stride as he focused more on his thoughts than the walking. Had he gotten too dependent on what little sight he had? That...well, it honestly worried him. That would be gone in a few years' time. He couldn't afford to let himself get soft, scared--
"--oof!"
...and distracted.
He'd been too focused on his thoughts to avoid running smack dab into someone. He stumbled back, blinking harshly in the fading light. Who-?

| She had never really been in Sunlake palms this late at night before... it was quite the experience, she had to say. So much more quiet and peaceful compared to the busier parts of Endymion. It wasn't quite desolate either, unlike East Eden, which gave this part of town a nice, homey feeling. Like you were just strolling in a familiar neighbourhood. In fact, this part of the city was quite unfamiliar to Batilde, but regardless, she didn't feel worried at all around here. Now where was that house...? That awfully yellow house which she used as a landmark to make sure that she was on track. After a bit of scanning around while walking, Batilde found it at last. And just as she turned the corner of the building, she bumped against something... or someone. "Uff..." Batilde grunted as the two teens collided. It took her a second to get her head straight. "Oh, je suis désolé! I'm so sorry! I-I wasn't paying attention and just rounded this corner and...!" Batilde exclaimed hastily, her thoughts being a jumbled mess. It was her fault, wasn't it! And the person was carrying a cane with him tooo!!!! AAAAAHHH! NON NON NON! She hadn't even noticed who the person was at first, being too busy apologizing. "A-Are you hurt? Did I break anything? Please don't tell me I did! If something did break, I'll compensate you, I promise!" She said, bowing deeply in resentment for her own lack of focus when walking. Now, Derrick may not have been able to make out who she was by just looking at her, given his eye-condition and the poor lighting, but her voice and accent should be more than enough for him to figure out who she was. | |
