...He probably should send Charles away, shouldn't he? As in, the whole scene could easily be misinterpreted as a display of a romantic moment between two male lovers by anyone who catches a glimpse on the two. That is, if they can't distinguish an android from a human. Then again, who could? Charles was able to mimic everything there is about a real man, from the voice, to his face, his skin, his hair, his emotions...the weight on Shun's back, the gentleness... And, as odd as it may sound, Shunnosuke caught himself thinking that he was even more human than one made of flesh and bones could be, for he knew that this creature might be "fake", but he wasn't capable of lying and holding fake emotions at all. — ...why are you doing all of this for me? You don't even know me well. Who taught you so...? — More tears falling down. Did someone teach Charles how to be a human? Or was he developing his own sense of humanity based on his empiric knowledge and experiences? Regardless, Shunnosuke was even more confused on how to act. Let Charles stay or push him away? Though he couldn't measure how to act in light of this situation, thinking of the android as a person equal to him, a real person, made it all seem more...comforting. And even though the Kurosawa was still gloomy and melancholic, if that's what Charles aimed for, he should be proud of himself.

"Do I need a reason? Is it so hard to believe that I care about you... even though I don't know you?" Charles whispered again into Shunnosuke's ear, his voice shaky but determined. He knew what he was talking about. He didn't need a reason. There shouldn't ever be a reason to act for the good of someone else, friend and foe alike. And... even though the young mister Kurosawa appeared uncertain in this situation, Charles had the feeling this was working. Tears, they are a way for humans to express their grief, their sorrow, their pain... Was Shunnosuke keeping them from flowing all these years? If so, then he could feel like he's did what had to be done! "Cry all you want... all you need." The embrace grew tighter than ever as Charles wrapped Shunnosuke even closer to himself, and himself even closer to Shunnosuke, yet, there existed a newfound softness to be found in it, one that could maybe finally fully open the path to the chained up heart of this poor, brilliant martyr, for even if he did not realize it, Shunnosuke was suffering just the same as his friend must have suffered at the point of his death, leaving his friends behind, forever...

Yeah, it was damn hard to believe. It wasn't mutual to being with. Shunnosuke didn't care about Charles, at least not so much. Sure, they had a few encounters where Shunnosuke showed a degree of sympathy for him, and an evergrowing curiosity for the person lying under the metallic cuirass, but would that make them as intimate as they express they care for each other? Not for Shunnosuke. He didn't think so. And being treated like that was enraging and embarrassing, regardless of Charles's good intentions Shunnosuke was unable to understand. He wanted to have enough strength to fight the embrace, he really wanted. But as he tried, his tiny body lacked physical power to do so, which ended up in his cracking, shaky voice gaining an austere, almost desperate tone. — Stop. You don't know how I feel, how could you? Not even real people do understand, so what, you want to be an exception? You're not able to feel sadness, you're a machine, you can't, heard me? You. Can't! — He tried to fight a bit to let go of his arms, but soon he lost any will to do so as he noticed he was still in a public place. And the outburst drained his energy, leaving a formerly composed Shunnosuke (as far as composed goes when it means you're silently crying) sobs compulsively and loud, forgetting the possible attention he caught from the audience. He tried to beg something, but...was he even making sense right now in the state he found himself to be? Charles might be right, the young man had been keeping this for too long and out of public eyes. And when it surfaced...his sorrow had the strength of a volcano.

"..!" Charles felt Shunnosuke's struggle against his hug, but didn't let go at first. Out of stubborness of being sure that it was the right thing to do, maybe? Shunnosuke wasn't putting up much of a fight anyways, and this was gonna help him, so yes, the initial sentiment Charles had was to not let go.

However, the words which followed made him stutter in his determination, and he eased the embrace, more out of shock that anything else. Was this true? He was sure it wasn't, he could feel pain just as Shunnosuke could. He knew that, he really did. But... the way he said it...

Charles took a step back, letting go of Shunnosuke completely, an almost startled look on his face as he stared at the rich boy with his mouth slightly agape. "No." He said quietly, looking at Shunnosuke's sobbing posture. His hands clenched into fists as his brow furrowed and his eyes shone a deep red in the sun. "I can feel pain. It is exactly because of that that I can understand how you must be feeling, even if I could never be certain of the truth. You asked me who taught me how to be human, and this is my answer: nobody. It is because I came to feel my emotions for myself that I got to be human. It is also why I refused to let go of you until now. But you will keep rejecting me, won't you? Knowing that saddens me, and pains me as well. The realization that I can't help you, no matter how hard I try..." He diverted his gaze down at Shunnosuke's feet and smiled sadly. "I thought I was close to getting you to open up... I really did..."

When Charles let go completely of Shun, the teenager already had no strength to keep his body weight on his own, and therefore, without any will to stand on his feet, he nearly ended up falling on his knees. Nearly being the key word because he quickly got balance to regain the posture and turn back, looking at Charles with a mix of desolation, fierce anger and desperation. Yet...when he saw the android's face, the only emotion left for him to feel was...remorse. He realized, quickly and maybe late enough, how heavy were his words now that he could get a straight look at the other's face. Now...was he ashamed? He should be. He wasn't prone to feel guilty, but damn, the fierceness of the expectant eyes from the nearby small crowd, mainly children and one or two parents staring at the scene, pierced through the solidity of his momentary anger. And Shunnosuke couldn't decide what was more embarrassing, the stares he was trying to avoid, or the rueful look on the face of someone who was trying to avoid the same to someone else. Slowly the sobbing stopped, gradually, until there was no loud sound of sadness echoing through the park anymore.

— ...I didn't mean to say that...I...sorry... — He didn't know what else to say. Man, was he really apologizing to a robot? Yes, he was. Looking at this vulnerable side of Charles, it was so hard to believe this one was a machine in first place. Then, the thought of Hyde came to his mind. How Hyde died without hearing an apology in first place haunted him then, haunted him for two years and would keep so for a long time if he didn't get this out of his chest. But...how? Should he vent to this Charles? It was so hard to speak about it, to open up, as Charles put it...but he had to try and take the first step eventually, didn't he? — ...My friend died right after I was rude to him. I really didn't mean to treat him bad, I didn't...and there was no excuse to it. I know... But I didn't know that would be the last time. He vanished saying he had something to do, and that's the last I heard from him. I didn't see him for days until I got aware that he... — He left the sentence incomplete, hands quickly reaching his face to cover his own cries and griefs. Shunnosuke could try as he want, he simply wasn't able to hold it any longer. — S...sorry....it's my fault...it always my fault....

The desolate, cold winds blowing through the city streets, carrying grief and remorse... The sense of outmost regret, helplessness... Shunnosuke will always be all alone in this, no matter what Charles said or did, yet still, the android stayed there, not feeling angry at the other for what he said. He never could get angry at him in this kind of situation. This was just... sorrowful. He wanted to be the hand reaching out to Shunnosuke, to pull him back and out of this misery.. but he couldn't. This was much bigger than him. This was something Shunnosuke needed to sort out with himself.

And so he smiled, the blue skies above the vibrant city visage framing his silhuette against the sunlight, and he opened a palm to Shunnosuke. It didn't matter if he took it or not. "It's... okay." He said, softly, barely audible over the bustle of the nearby streets around the park. "Don't be mad at yourself, it's not your fault, no matter what you decided to think for yourself. You must find it in you to forgive yourself... But, until you do, know that I will always know it, and, for now, that is the most I can give you, if you will accept it."

The fleeting image of the android as he proceeded to smile once again at the young Kurosawa before spinning on his heels and turning around, what would it mean to Shunnosuke?

"I hope we can get together again. I really enjoy being around you, even if you can't see it."

He would have given him another hug, but he really didn't want to bother him any more... He did what he could, and managed to get Shunnosuke to open up just a little bit and tell him his problems... That was the first step towards helping him.

He was sure of it.

For some time he would remain there, staring emptily to the hand Charles offered to him without moving out of his place. It's not that Shunnosuke rejected the gesture; he didn't. Far from that. He just didn't have it in him to extend his hand in return. Or to deserve the gentle words back at him. Of course his rational side knew it wasn't his fault that Hyde died. How could? He wasn't there. But...the emotional side, who rules Shunnosuke's decisions at the most crucial moments over the scheming and cunning side of his personality, couldn't help but feel he could have done more. He could have loved more. And that is something he'll never be able to avert and change, for the past never comes back. Even then, Charles's words did get to him in a way he couldn't respond right now. Not with words at least, hence his silence lasting long enough for Charles to depart once the android realized he couldn't extract much more from the teen other than the apathetic and sorrowful expressions.

— ... — And so, Shunnosuke turned his head back. Some people were probably still staring. He didn't mind. Normally he would, but not now; with the back of his hand, he cleaned what was left of his tears on his face and...walked off. Whether it was intentional or not, Shunnosuke noticed Charles left his work cap behind, nothing Shun would leave unnoticed. Perhaps it was a sign. Perhaps a reunion was meant to be. Regardless, at least for now, he would definitely meet Charles again. After all, he had to retrieve his cap, at one point or another...
