| It was already past midnight but Nagisa couldn't bring herself to sleep. Since the day of the broadcast she was unable to get the things the reporter had said out of her mind. Something big was going to happen but she couldn't possibly imagine what. As a child Nagisa loved the occult but due to the lack of actually supernatural phenomenons she lost interest. Now however things were different, with the info she had found on the internet and the research the girls from the ecology club have made She had manage to find a way to unlock the secrets of the rifts. Apparently there was a game, or rather a ritual, called persona which was connected to the rifts. It was said that it could help someone awake to their potential although the actual effects of it were vague. Nevertheless Nagisa decided to invite the girls from the ecology club to her dorm at night in order to play the game, they promised to bring one more friend of theirs in order to make the ritual correctly. However the girls were late, their meeting was supposed to take place in Nagisa's dorm half an hour ago but none of them have showed up. Disappointed that they decided to opt out of this Nagisa set the stage for the game herself, at least she could try it on her own.
"Well....here goes nothing. Persona! Come out, Personaargh!" However Nagisa's ritual was cut short when she head a knock on her door and due to her stress she reacted poorly. "It's us, Naoko and Ai from the ecology club. Sorry for the delay but our friend had to sneak out of her house in order to come here. Can we come in?" Despite surprising her Nagisa was glad she wouldn't have to do it herself so she rushed at the door. Naoko and Ai looked like hippies, both with long unkempt black hair and colorful clothes Nagisa wouldn't even consider hangout with them if the world wasn't falling apart. The other girl wasn't someone Nagisa knew. She had short blonde hair and was dressed with black gothic clothes. Please let us introduce you. Yuko this is Nagisa, she's also trying to find out what's going on with the rifts. Nagisa didn't offer her hand for a handshake instead she noded at the Yuko and invited the group in. "As you can see I have everything set. Now let's hurry up and do it. I would hate if someone caught us practicing black magic in the middle of hte night" Nagisa added sarcastically, Naoko and Ai grined although the other girl, Yuko didn't seem to appreciate the joke very much. "I will have you know that this is a serious business not a children game. You shouldn't use the word magic in vain." Nagisa didn't like her one bit but she decided not to make any offensive comments at that moment.
They all gathered around in the circle standing opposite of each other. As the most "experienced" Yuko was the one to lead the chant. Nagisa frowned as she watched her chant. "Persona! Persona! Come out, Persona!" She said as she walked to Ai who was standing on her right side. She then followed suit and copied Yuko moving to Naoko who also continued the chant and passed to Nagisa. After taking a deep breath she carried on with the chant"Persona! Persona! Come out, Persona!" She chanted and then they held hands and chat one more time combined with their eyes closed. Nagisa wans't sure how much time had passed but it was way too much and nothing had happened. Yuko was the first to break the silence. "Damn it, we have failed I can't feel any magic at all." Despite finding her words absolutely ridiculous Nagisa had to agree with her. "Maybe we got the wrong lead. We should try again another night...for now it would be best if we put an end to our little coven meeting." The other girls agreed with her. Once they left Nagisa tried to clean up her room but before she was done she felt fatigue overcoming her body. It was way past her bedtime and it was a tough day. She decided to clean up tomorrow, wrapped herself around the sheets of her bed and shut her eyes. Before she even realized she drifted into sleep.

| When Nagisa’s friends began to leave, they would find that the door to the dorm room was locked. And not just locked, but if they tried to push the door, they would find that it did not budge an inch. It was quite odd to see. The minute they could process that this was no ordinary situation, the ceiling began to glow, and the ground almost shook around them, as bolts of lightning crashed from the ceiling into each of their heads including Nagisa, who would be brought out cold by the sheer force of the surreal event.
They would be out cold for a while while constantly feeling the sensation of falling weightlessly, and when Nagisa woke up, they would see nothing but world full of bright stars; a world where she knew they had been here before, but they couldn’t remember when, or how they even got there. She would also notice that she was alone where she was, and had no corporeal form as if they were in a dream; they could not move around, or act. She could only look upon a tall man who stood some distance away from them on some kind of platform. He wore nothing but pure white, and a modest tie; but what was most eye-catching was the mask He wore. It beheld a butterfly to the side.
“I welcome you.” He said with such a tone that was so pleasant even Nagisa who may be suspicious now could feel herself becoming calmer by the mere sound of his voice. “I am Philemon. I dwell beneath your subconscious, and am responsible for the actions you take that you are not aware of. I am the God of the Ego, and one who watches over you.” After taking a greeting bow, he would cross his arms, and look to the faceless woman.
“You remember who you are I understand? You are one of the rare few that possess this astounding ability here in the realm of the collective unconsciousness. Your will is rather strong, so you must realize what you are capable of. You can be both generously pure, and yet passionately selfish. People go about their lives by wearing masks; masks they wear when confronting life’s many hardships. What you are now is just one of those many masks you have control over. And yet you still manage to hang onto your identity as a human being. You are no weak person.”
As he spoke, his hand would open to the side and reveal a figure dressed in light that looked like a Gorgon creature, with snake-like bodies hanging from her head, and eyes that could pierce the soul of any person. “I will grant you the power of Persona. It is the ability to use the many faces you wear, the Gods and Demons you harbor within you. If you choose to take this power, know that it will be of great need, as in Azores, slowly forces are beginning to build, and there will be a point down your path where it will destroy your home. If you choose to accept this, then you must sign a contract, saying that you shall take responsibility for the choices you make. You and you alone must bear the burden of your own decisions.” When he finished, a piece of paper unfolded seemingly out of nowhere in front of Nagisa. If she willed it, her name would appear on this contract without needing to write it herself. It would be her only chance to make her choice, and decide if this was the fate she wished to strive for.

| Nagisa was enthralled by this person's voice. She was certain that he spoke the truth despite how outrageous they sounded. She now had a choice to make, a choice that would possible shape not only her own future but the entire Azores Region. She remembered the man she had met at the bookstore, the reporter who had appeared on the broadcast and the strange rifts throughout the city. She there was no question that they were connected to each other and this power, this persona, Philemon spoke of was the key to find the answer she has been searching for so long. She stared at the contract in frond of her and without hesitation agreed on it's terms. For her it was too late to turn back now. If the only requirement was to take responsibility for her choices then she had no reason to refuse.
"I accept." She said and before she finished her signature appeared on the contract. She was unable to comprehend how this world could function but she felt too tired and overwhelmed to question any of it. There was only thing she was certain of, she had made the right choice. A storm was coming and she was give the chance to stop it, she wasn't going to throw away such an opportunity.

| When she signed the contract, Philemon nodded, and the image on his hand disappeared, though Nagisa could feel the presence of the Gorgon woman within her. It was now her own power to use. "Very well. I have high hopes for you. Your world still has time, and you can still save it. I wish you the best of luck. I am thou, and thou art I. I am always watching." As he spoke, Nagisa's vision would grow whiter, and soon she would wake up in her dorm with her friends as though the dream had never happened, but they all felt something different. Nagisa could feel her Persona within her. The ceiling was now normal, and the door was now free to open if they so needed to. | |
