The Beauty of Ruin [Deshi]

Oki had made its comment in soft tones, but at volume that was loud enough for the other nearby to hear if he was listening at all. However, Oki was not very sure if the other was listening. The boy seemed lost in thought, his gaze far away as he continued to look at the snow drifting down in a steady beat from the grey sky above. Oki had watched the other, taking note of the face revealed before it had looked away and suggested they head for shelter as the snow around them settled into a heavy curtain that was quickly lapping up paths and making visibility more difficult.

While Oki could probably handle being in the snow longer than others, as the snow began to sink into its thin clothing and kiss the skin underneath it gently, the being found itself wanting to not stay out in the weather longer than necessary. Thankfully, this time around the other seemed to hear the being and after pulling his hood back up, the other agreed with the being and decided to head back as he covered his camera. With a nod in response to the other’s words, Oki would take to following the other.

For a while, there was silence, snow, and the faint crunching of their shoes upon the freezing grass and earth as they continued to walk forward through the curtain of flurries that only got thicker and thicker as they moved. Regardless of this, Oki was not afraid as it kept its companion in view and an ear out for danger in the woods.

“Hey, Add…what did you think of when you saw the snow?” Oki asked curious about what had the other so hypnotized before hand that it had taken a while for him to answer or become active again. Oki understood that maybe the question was stepping on the other’s toes, so it prepared itself for any form answer from the other.

The snow continued to fall, gradually covering the trees, path, everything around the duo making their way to the village. Add should've expected that such occurence could happen, but he had forgotten for some reason. He even dressed quite lightly, considering it was winter season. /"I honestly didn't think it would get this bad. I should've thought about such possibility."/ Add thought bitterly.

The duo was walking in relative silence. The only sound present was the freshly fallen snow under their feet, until Oki spoke up. He was questioning Add's thoughts, when he spaced out earlier. Oki wasn't prying, he seemed to be just genuinely curious. The problems was, Add himself had no idea what his thoughts were about.

When he saw the snow falling... He felt like he had a memory associated with most likely winter holidays, building a snowman and such, but he just couldn't recall it. He knew he had a memory like that. But it was too hazy, too far away for him to reach it, no matter how hard he tried. The more he tried, the more he felt like it was drifting away. He didn't want it to disappear completely, though, so he gave up trying to recall it.

It took him a bit of time to try and come up with a suitable answer, that wouldn't sound rude. "I was just thinking about things that happened long ago." That was pretty much as far as the young man would go to answer that question. He wasn't lying, but he didn't say anything in particular either, even though it may had been obvious.

Silence. That is mostly what Oki and the other walked in as the snow continued to drift down covering paths and the trees around them as they moved on. The curtain of white remained thick if not thicker than when the snow first started. Visibility was still there, but if one was not careful even in this curtain becoming lost was possible; however, Oki was not really concerned about that as it followed its companion. Green eyes took in the beauty around them as its senses enjoyed the nature all around. The soft crunch of snow was comforting and while the coldness was beginning to get through both gloves and clothing, Oki kept moving along without complaint.

The being would leave the other in his thoughts until it became curious about his earlier actions and so had asked its question. At first, the being thought that maybe it had indeed stepped on the other’s toes. The young man was silent after all. Taking the silence as a sign to back off, the being didn’t say anything else as it took to looking at the woods once more as the silence wrapped around them once more.

The path before them was mostly covered by snow now making it hard to tell which way to go unless the other had memorized the path he had taken. Oki didn’t come this way when entering the woods, so it trusted the other for now to lead them out. The being suppose being lost with this one didn’t matter. The opportunity would help them get to know each other…if Oki only knew what to say. Unlike most it met in the past, this was the first time in a while that the old being had come across something that stomped it.

The being wasn’t sure if it was the boy’s silence or the aura that lingered around him that made it so hard to figure out what to say or do to get information from him. Maybe Oki was too distracted by the scenery to think… or maybe there was something about the boy that reminded the old being of its own past. Maybe that is why the being chose silence over prying. It was hard to say, so Oki stayed in quiet thought pondering this mystery until the other opened his mouth and surprisingly answered the question asked earlier.

The response was short and to the point causing Oki to nod lightly in response.

“Ah. I hope the memories are happy ones then,” Oki said and then became silent once more as it tried to figure out where to take this conversation…and it was then that Oki realized a truth It wasn’t the boy or similarities that made this situation so hard to understand. No…it was just…on its own Oki didn’t know how to hold a normal conversation that did not involve information gathering. Sure ,it had held one with Hyde, but he had taken the lead back then….

Huh….now this…this was a problem…

Could they get to know each other through silence? Or was speech really required? Preplexed by this new puzzle, Oki frowned lightly as it tried to understand this new predicament. Even so, it kept an ear open in case the other had anything to say.
