Today has been rather tiring for the mother, daughter duo. There little journey to find more supplies has proved to be totally and utterly useless. Everything in this area has already either been looted or had demons swarming around the place. By the end, both Antoinette and young Cherry Were tired, sore, and hungry. And as they always did when they where in the Fields of Glass, they went back to their favorite spot to rest for the night. The Saint Denise Subway Station. Tuck away in a hard to see corner just in case anybody with ill will came by, or some roaming demons wandered near them.
"Mommy. Mommy. Mommy." Cherry softly repeated, tugging on her mother's shirt sleeve. "What is it?" Antoinette asked, a small hint of annoyance hiding in her voice that the young girl failed to pick up. "Do you have any crackers left? Im hungry." As if on cue her tummy let out a growl. The older woman simply looked down at her small daughter. Her grey eyes looking up into her own exceptionally. The older woman let out a heavy sigh. "Cherry, do you remember that chat we had about being selfish?" Antoinette gently asked Cherry, causing her daughter to cast her eyes down to the ground. "W-w-well, yes I do mommy. And I have been trying my best, but, I really need it mom."
"Do you know how long it's been since I have last eaten pumpkin?" Cherry meekly shook her head. "Two days. I have not eaten in two days pumpkin, I have given everything to you." Cherry went silent for a few seconds, casting her eyes down to the floor before trying to speak again. "M-mommy I-" "Stop looking at the ground pumpkin. It's rude." Antoinette reached out to grab her 'daughter's' chin, and raised it. Making Cherry look her in the eye. "Better. Now, go ahead and say what you want to say." Cherry cleared her throat, trying her best to quell the shame that had built up in her. "Mommy I am s-so sorry, I didn't know. I-I would have given you some of my food if you told me......." A small. Almost unnoticeable smirk crossed Antoinette's face as she heard her daughter apologize. "It is fine my sweet pumpkin. It is a mother's duty to suffer for her child. But I am not without my limits, I need some food too. So next time, please don't ask mommy to feed you again, okay? Mommy knows you better than anyone or anything, and she knows when you really need to eat okay?" "Yes mommy." The older woman patted Cherry's head, ruffling her hair. "That's my girl. To be honest, it didn't really matter anyways. We ran out of crackers, but you needed to know that. Now then......." Pausing she reached into a old brown bag and pulled out a few sheets of paper, along with a single pen.
"Go ahead and draw pumpkin." She said, handing over the items to Cherry which caused the young girl's face to brighten up. As the hunger pains faded away, and was replaced by a overwhelming feeling of excitement. "Thank you mommy!" The young girl happily replied, giving her mom a tight hug before she went over to go draw a few feet away from her mother. Antoinette placed a hand on her bag, as her green eyes settled on her daughter drawing. She was truly a lovely girl, that Cherry, and she reminded Antoinette of her actual daughter so much. Those grey eyes, how she'd get so hyper over the smallest things, how obedient she was. Sadly all these similarities only brought the old woman's focus on her flaws. Her imperfections as Antoinette herself would call them. Her real daughter didn't have blonde hair, her real daughter did not ask for so many things, her real daughter didn't have to eat so much. Despite being alike in so many ways, it was clear that this Cherry was not her Cherry.
"Mommy, can I ask you a question? A-and it isn't about food this time!" Cherry assured her mother, causing a soft snicker to escape from Antoinette's lips. "Sure, what is it pumpkin?" She asked with a slight grin on her face, that was soon wiped away when Cherry asked her next question. "Where did I come from?" The older woman rolled her eyes. "Cherry I have already explained this to you once before, you came out of mommies tummy." Cherry shook her head. "No. I mean how did I get in there in the first place?"
Antoinette let out a soft sigh as she fought the urge to roll her eyes. She did not have the strength to deal with that question right now, so she just made up some BS to tell the young girl on the spot. "When a woman and a man kiss each other enough, a baby will form in the mommies belly. And then, after nine months the baby will pop out into the world." Antoinette replied, hoping that the answer would be enough for her daughter. "Huh? That's really weird, but, okay! I got another question though, if it takes a man to kiss you and make a baby, who kissed you?" The air suddenly became tense the second her question left the young girl's lips. Antoinette had gone almost seven straight years without Cherry becoming curious about her father, and of course she had to let her guard down. How could she have been so careless? "Go to bed pumpkin." Was her only reply, as she pressed her face into the palm of her hand. Mentally cursing herself for ever answering that question. "W-what? Why? Please mommy let me stay up, I almost finished m-" "Cherry. Go to bed." Antoinette's tone clued Cherry into the fact that if she where to try and convince her mother otherwise or try to argue this, she'd most likely get in trouble. So without another word Cherry curled up into a little ball and used her arms as a sort of make-shift pillow, as she tired to will herself to sleep. A tiny little pout on her face all the while.
Antoinette stayed up, and watched her for a while. And once she was sure her 'daughter' was asleep, she reached into her bag and pulled out a hand full of crackers. Truthfully she had been sneaking food into her bag without Cherry's knowledge for months now. It was true, Antoinette fed Cherry what she needed. But despite what she told her 'daughter' she kept much if the food to herself, and in her mind, she saw no problem with this. She was bigger than Cherry, didn't have that youthful vigor anymore, and she gave up so many things for this girl. Most notably a comfortable life in the vault. Yes, in the old woman's mind she had a right to those foods. After her quick snack, the long day had finally caught up to her ad Antoinette felt a wave of tiredness hit her. Moving next to Cherry, she laid down besides her and closed her eyes. Getting ready to fall asleep and hopefully gain enough energy to face the day tomorrow. "Good night.......... Little Kari."
