Her usual absent smile had a sort of grimness to it that lay beneath. This was just another bad idea but she wanted to push her luck. The lights and the excitement and the drinks would take her away from what she'd done so she didn't have to think anymore, the worst she had to lose was money. Patricia spent the night drinking, putting coins into the one-armed bandit, and chatting with the people around her like she didn't look like a punk and pretended she cared about them. - Slot Machine:
