Alliance? [Afternoon; Frog x Brit x Gabe]

Frog was glad he managed to reassure Brit. It was all clear to him from the way she placed her hand on his thigh after he was done talking. He smiled and nodded as she spoke. However, Gabe's first remark, once again, didn't really sit right with him. He was saying stuff like there being no point in hanging out with Cadets. Why, really? As what Brit said, they knew who the Cadets were while the Cadets were left in the dark. But he also knew that that wasn't why Brit hung out with some people she knew were Cadets. No, she hung out with them because she liked to hang out with them. And that was enough reason.

He most likely would have said something about it but Gabe moved on quickly enough. What he said about the painting made him think, but he still wasn't sure exactly what Gabe meant. He knew the Government was a fraud or...something. Being a counterfeit didn't really have much to do with that though. It was a depressing thought being pointed out that most of the world's treasures and cultural keepsakes were destroyed in the Divide, but still... "Well the comfort is false because people just wanna feel good despite knowing that there's like, demons everywhere. They're lucky they can't see demons though. That at least keeps the public calmer, I think." He replied. However, Gabe's next question caught him off guard. Like, it was obvious Brit and him were dating, duuuuh. Gabe seemed to point out the depth of their connection more than its mere existence though.

"O-oh like... you know, Brit and I first met on the day of the Great Divide. And we've like...been connected ever since. T-that's what I think." He blushed and started twirling his hair.

Despite Brittany’s efforts do keep it light-hearted, the tone of the conversation was inherently depressing. Yet, she couldn’t exactly blame Gabriel. Being a terrorist is enough to drive you crazy, unless you’re crazy yourself, from the beginning. Perhaps that’s why she hasn’t sunk in depressive thoughts yet. The one things go, however, it’s just a matter of time until they all go insane. Somehow, she had a feeling this is exactly what’s going on with Gabe right now.

“What?”, she said with dropping jaw. Glancing immediately to Frogerio, it was clear he was as surprised as her by the sudden question. Have they ever talked about being officially dating? Like, girlfriend and boyfriend thing? Yes, they had, but it was more like a subtle acknowledgment than an official statement. When they realized it, they were both calling each other “boyfriend and girlfriend” without a proposal. There was so much thing in her mind lately Brittany barely forgot how obvious she was about their relationship. “Excuse me, it’s not like I wouldn’t defend you if someone said trash about you, okay?? I totally would! You don’t have to, like, date me for us to be friends?”, she answered, laughing it off. Brittany dating? Such an embarrassing thought that, when vocalized in a straightforward manner, she could hardly believe it was true.

"Connected huh? Is that what we are calling it these days? Something that falls back into the great divide itself, I never even began to notice that such bonds could withstand the test of time. Usually, when people think back, they would want to forget about all of the bad that happened, but you still remembered and maintained your friendship with each other. But currently, you two are just friends, correct? I doubt it, and I only doubt it if the friendship gimmick is to protect thus said friendship of something further was to fail. It's important to take a gamble, in love and in life...alright? I made a mistake like that before...so go for it.....at your own pace...but...now that i think about it..."

Gabe started to rub his chin a bit.

"I only brought this up because of the few dates I went on with Brittany a while back. I think the reason why she thought nothing of it was because she was in a relationship with you and didn't know how to break it down. You know the saying, Gabriel Gatsby always gets his girl. Unfortunately, the good old Gatsby charm seemed ineffective, haha. "

It was no big deal.

"But nevertheless, I never took it personally. You two seem like a good couple that compliments each others strengths and weaknesses. Once again, I didn't mean to pry, I just figured I get my curiosity....and confusion..out of the way. Moving on!"

Was there anything else they wanted to talk about?

"I'll try to be more open about the whole idea of socializing with the cadets outside of this. Of course, with my guard up. But was there anything else of concern that you wanted to talk about today?"

Frog wished Gabe would stop speaking in riddles like some sort of...uh...RIDDLER! It was like speaking to a fortune cookie or something about connections and love. He was the one who caught the two of them off guard with such an abrupt question and then even Brit got a wee bit flustered. Or a big bit flustered. Frog just knew his face was like, totally red the moment Gabe mentioned dates with Brit. A wave of heat inside him pushed him forward, palms on his knees sitting down as several shiny droplets of sweat burst out of his reddening cranium. He was everything from jealous to betrayed but not really betrayed. He never once doubted Brit, he was moreso insecure when faced with Gabe's bravado. After all, he's obviously tried to score with Brit with how he spoke of her, and Gabe was like, at least somewhat more handsome and socially apt than him! The equation was simple-Frog probably wasn't the best pair for Brit when observed from the outside and Gabe's presence was pointing it out.

"W-what!?" He yelped. "W-we are dating, aren't we, Brit? I-I mean we really don't have to call it dating, but we're together, like, right? I've always wanted a girl who didn't have to call it dating, you know! Like, someone with whom we'd both just know we're together and that'd be enough for us. So don't say we're just friends, that's insulting!" The way Gabe said it, it sounded like they weren't a pair and they kinda were even if neither of them had the need or well........lack of complete and utter anxiety to call it dating. And then he changed the topic twice again-first to trying to be better friends with Cadets, which was great, then to whether they had any more questions.

Frog definitely didn't have any more questions after this little event. He was fidgetting with his fingers on his knees as he waited for someone else to speak up.

Brittany listened in silence. And listened. And listened a bit more until it was over. Eyes shifting from Frogerio’s visible exasperation to Gabe’s collected disappointment. Of course, the girl wasn’t oblivious to the intent in Gabe’s words, it’s just she didn’t expect him to come forward about it in such a manner that would obviously raise some thorns between them. “...wait, they were dates? I thought we were just, you know, hanging out? Like, uh… friends?”

Of course, there were a few comically flirtatious remarks here and there, but never in her mind had she the intention of committing. Then, Frogerio freaking out and being completely justified in his hysterical demands for explanation got her slightly recoiled, albeit an embarrassed smile sprouted on her lips. She couldn’t help but to be the romantic, dreamy girl who thinks her boyfriend was adorable, cute and all synonyms when he gets jealous! And on a more important note: “…you… said it! You finally said it!!”, she replied, placing both hands over her face with a loud, high-pitched squeal of joy before turning back to Gabe with an apologetic, careful frown. “Oh yeah, I’m… like… sorry? I didn’t mean to upset or hurt you, really, I swear I only saw our hanging out as that, friendly hanging out! I dunno, I haven’t been together with my friends lately, so I thought we doing stuff together was just like that, as if we’re just friends! That and… I have never dated someone before Froggy, I kinda don’t know about this stuff. Like, okay, I KNOW about this stuff but from movies, TV shows, in real life stuff is a bit different, you know. And gosh, there has been so much in my mind lately I’m a bit distracted these days, I didn’t notice you wanted to… you know… you aren’t mad at me, are you? Maybe…?”

"No need to look so surprised Froggerio, i'm not the kind of person that likes to beat around the bush. That how it was, or better yet, that's how I saw it at the moment. But now that we've came to this point, nothing about it matters right now. Well, the only thing about it that matters is the facts that were stated, there is no place for emotions in that. But I do apologize for insulting your relationship, I didn't mean to undermine it for calling you two just friends. I sincerely hope you can forgive the way that I misspoke. "

Gabe really did mean it. On some days, he thought he was good at this, handling the emotions of others and always finding a way to turn things around for the better. But even for him, the iron is never hot enough to strike, and he ends up being cold.

"It's fine Brittany, nothing personal. I have no one to blame but myself by either not being straightforward or....someting... something is wrong with me and ... I'm using this as a good time to change and improve my approach. That's what I do, anything that doesn't go my way... I humble myself towards my failures and do whatever I can to change for the better. However, that has no bearing on our friendship. I still consider you and Frog as irreplaceable friends, regardless of our past."

With a brief cough, Gabe decided to transition past that.

"Well, what now? You two can still make brunch at the maid cafe if you go together. Go on a little date.."

Frog let out a sigh of relief. He'd always found it really strenuous and energy-consuming when he had to express his true emotions on a topic, especially one he held to his heart such as Brit. He didn't want to end up looking like a jealous boyfriend, he really didn't, so the thought of it also weighed on him. Was he being something he didn't want to be? But really, Brit's joy swept it all away. She was glad he verbally proclaimed their relationship, and probably also really awestruck by his display of protection in face of Gabe's diminishment of their bond. Hah! All is well that ends well. "Y-yeah I guess I did!" His eyes went from surprised to content in an instant as he locked them with Brit's after what she'd said.

"It's fine, Gabe, I didn't mean to get upset..." He scratched the back of his head, smiling awkwardly. There probably had been a hint of jealousy in how he reacted to Gabe previously, but seeing the man apologize so profusely didn't give Frog much choice but to be polite in return as well. Not that he didn't want to be polite. Either way, the rest was clearing up the misconceptions between Gabe and Brit. "Also thanks. I think of you as an important friend too." He added, looking down slightly blushing.

That was all gone when Gabe mentioned the maid cafe though. "W-why'd we wanna go there, you doof." He asked while pouting, embarrassed at the other's proposition.

So he wasn’t mad at her and still considered her a friend? Gosh, that was a relief!

“Aww... that’s so sweet I’m gonna hug you! I mean, I can hug you, right? Friend hug?”, she asked, albeit a bit unsure whether she truly should after such reveal of Gabe’s true intentions. Not the first time she was actually hit on by someone, but the first time it made her completely awkward and afraid of ruining an existing friendship. Regardless, Brittany stood up and walked to Gabriel to give said tight hug of honesty friendship and no bad feelings between them over a clear misunderstanding, letting go of him after a few seconds. “But yeah… Frogerio and I met when we were kids. And then we got together not too long. Like, can you believe that? We’ve been going to the same school for some time and yet we have not spoken to each other until recently! Now that I think of it… actually, it was his fault, because he didn’t notice me all this time! Actually, not entirely his fault, I did change a lot…”, she said with a short laugh following, her eyes focused on Frogerio with less and less humorous tones and more like a dreamy, contemplative, smiling stare. “But not him. He has always been like this… Since we were kids…”

The smile became less dreamy, then. And more concerned. More restrained. Like there was something eerie and nasty behind it, behind the memories she evoked just now. Until she realized what she had in mind and woke up from whatever trance said memories induced her into. “Oh? Uh, I dunno, I’m not into coffee that much… Like, cafe, coffee, it’s all the same!”, Brittany giggled, shoving the thoughts she dwelt on aside. Coffee being heavy on her stomach was not exactly the reason the girl didn’t want to get nearby the maid cafe, however… “But yeah, we barely go on dates, Froggy… It’s almost like our terrorist missions are our dates! Now that I think of it, isn’t that, like, romantic? Remember that time we went on that mission to beat that fairy demon you said she looked like a stripper? You had to see it, Gabe, he even took me to dance!” Despite being a simple moment for two, it was something she held in her core as a fond remembrance, something that made her truly happy. “Oh, and I visited his house once! Whiiiich reminds me, Gabe also visited my house once, we visited his twice this time… but you haven’t visited mine yet!”

"I was just offering an alternative suggestion in regards to how you could spend your day. There is also a small brunch place at the sunlake palm flower garden. A lot of beautiful flowers and natural scents, all of the ingredients are fresh, especially the vegetables and fruits. A nice place to go on a date and taking a lot of pictures, I was only thinking on your behalf. Would you like me to take you there on the premise that Brittany promises to act surprised when you take her there yourself another time?"

Gabe said this in a playful tone, but his suggestions were nothing more than that. He really had no ill will towards it after explaining how he felt. So he was surprised when Brittany came up to give him a hug.

As a matter of fact, he didn't even move, he just kept talking.

"I meant what I said, you don't need to do anything to smooth it over, we are all adults here ya know? But I do appreciate the hug, as a matter of fact, I don't think I really remember the last time where someone hugged me. Huh, go figure..."

It wasn't an action that came up as often as one would think. But then he listened about how they know each other since they were kids. It made sense, Gabe only had a taste of his freedom to go out like that in the later years. Brittany seemed happy, which made Gabe smile.

"Next time, let's have a meeting at Brittany's house. or better yet, GERIO, why don't you go over to her place? Maybe bring some exotic tea bags to brew while you talk? Very therapeutic and whatnot, the dragon spa and hot springs do sell some of the merch that they use within their own establishment. Not the same as being under the unique atmosphere, but you would be around someone you cherish, which is far more important. Should I pick you up a pack? Or you know what, take mine. I should have some remaining. "
