Personality:

Melina’s shadow is everything her original isn’t. The original was shy, submissive, demure and raised by people who had very...dogmatic views of how a woman should act. As such where the original was submissive, Melina’s shadow is dominating. Where she was shy she is now confident. Where she was demure and effeminate she is now masculine and brazen. Simply put, she’s far from the “pathetic little housewife” (in the shadow’s own words) that her original was.

On account of being comprised from her original’s repressed emotions Melina hates, and I do mean HATES, dogmatic people. “Just the way it is” and “I’m in charge so do as I say” are attitudes that infuriate her to no end. Paradoxically, the attitudes she hates are primarily what lead to her original repressing emotions and that in turn created Melina’s shadow. She is aware of this fact and while it often amuses her, bringing it up a little bit too often can be hazardous to one’s health.

Melina’s biggest motivation right now is shattering the government's grip on the people. Any society that believes in controlling the people and punishing them for speaking the truth needs to be violently torn down! Of course there is a few additional reasons why Melina’s so against the current society. Firstly she hates how her original self was abandoned by people who refused to see the truth. Secondly, and most importantly, she made a promise to her original to do what she could not.

The exact details of this promise were to drag the world kicking and screaming into the truth, forcing them to accept what the government had hidden from them for so long but to also live the life the original Melina never could. Unlike other shadows, Melina does actually have a fondness for her original born out of pity and gratitude. Pity because the original was a hostage in her own life but also gratitude as the original Melina did willingly let their shadow take control of their body.

In general Melina’s brazen, direct and with no real respect for boundaries of any kind constantly pushing them just to breaking point. Despite that she’s actually got a good side to herself being, surprisingly for a shadow, trustworthy. Trust is a big thing for her mainly due to the fact she actually likes the human world. It’s part of why Melina’s such a reckless person. She wishes to experience everything the world has to offer. Every vice, every pleasure, every joy. It would be a lot easier to do that if a certain queen’s regime would just stop existing.

—Description: Recklessness and courage are often considered two sides of the same coin. As such Melina’s courage gain is increased by 100% so everyone point she earns for courage is in fact two points.

—Strength Name: Three parts foolhardy one part brave.
—Description: On account of how the primary emotion that created the shadow known as Melina is a desire to be free and just generally wanting to experience everything she was ever denied, her courage rank starts one level higher than it normally would.

—Strength Name: Serpent’s kiss.
—Description: Due to what her original’s persona would be, that persona’s specialisation in debuffs and the Devil Arcana’s further specialisation in debuff skills Melina’s own debuff abilities are significantly more potent than they would normally be. As such, all of (and only) her debuff skills are 15% more powerful.

—Strength Name: Pit vision
—Description: On account of her true self being a gigantic snake, in that form Melina can see thermal radiation through pit organs located in her cheeks up to a maximum distance of three meters. It functions in both forms yet, she can toggle it as needs be. How? Shadow magic whooo

—Weakness Name: Inhumanity.
—Description: Despite the fact Melina’s now controlling a human body with all the memories of her original, she never grew up as a human. As such understanding other humans is a challenge for her. Any increases to her understanding skill are halved. So one point becomes zero, two becomes one and so on.

—Weakness Name: Unempathetic
—Description: Melina is sadly rather unemphatic to people and as such it takes her longer to pick up on how people feel. As such she needs to go through the first level twice before getting to level two.

—Weakness Name: Snake oil
—Description: Let’s face it. Since when has snake oil ever been anything but a con? Melina’s buff potency/whatever you want to call it is reduced by 15%.

—Weakness Name: Cold blooded.
—Description: On account of her true form being cold blooded, rapid reductions in her internal temperature cause her movements to become slow and sluggish, easy to evade for a quick witted foe.

Soul Bound Weapon:

Weapon Name:Stake driver/Rip and tear
Weapon Description:Melina's soul bound weapon has two forms. In her human form it is the stake driver, a mechanical device worn on the arm that uses pressurised gas to thrust a hydraulic stake into the target. Even without the hydraulics physical strength on the part of the user can allow it to pierce targets. In times of dimensions it is roughly zero point six meters long, zero point three meters wide and zero point three meters high.

In Melina’s shadow self form her soul-bound becomes her fangs allowing her to bite, tear and puncture the flesh of targets. Oddly enough, unlike actual fangs they are significantly less brittle actually able to handle the physical stress involved with biting into flesh, ripping it apart and chewing. How this is possible nobody knows but let’s just chalk it up to “shadow magic.”

Side-Arm Description: The Beretta 92F custom is, as one would think, your standard handgun employing 9mm parabellum rounds. Where Melina got it from is a secret she keeps to herself but it’s effective enough. Oddly enough, when she changes form the holster she keeps it in manages to fit around her body without breaking. Is it magic? Is it elasticated? Her lips are sealed.

The Background

History:

To understand the Shadow known as Melina one must first explore the history of her original self who is, confusingly, also called Melina. Melina’s parents were rather high class members of society with all the trappings and finery that comes it. Obviously this meant she was rather well off as a child but sadly her parents, well her father mainly as her mother had died during childbirth, held traditional views. Traditional for people from the medieval ages that is.

What this meant is that as she grew older Melina was expected to be this demure, subservient housewife. While her brother got groomed to take over her father’s agriculture business Melina was expected to simply be a doting housewife. Now that would have all been well and good had she been given the choice. Sadly, Melina had the choice made for her. If she wanted to play sports with her brother? Nope. Locked in her room. If she wanted to learn about her father’s business her efforts to do so would be shut down.

This continued for years. At first Melina didn’t mind, after all she was only a child, but as she got older and older she began to get more and more annoyed at the disparity in life experiences between herself and her elder brother. Sadly, her father did not take kindly to this and when his authority as a parent stopped being enough to control Melina he resorted to violence. Oh yes, at first Melina’s natural self-respect meant she put up a resistance but by age sixteen she had pretty given up.

The abuse she took from her father resulted in a lot of emotional repression, anger, envy and bitterness but most of all? A desire to just do what she wanted. Sadly, Melina wasn’t allowed to have her own free will, independence or any dreams of her own. Her father was a very old fashioned man who, despite the fact the entire world around him changed, stayed stuck in the ways of his father and father before him. As a result Melina was basically raised to be a housewife, baby maker and parent.

The years ticked by and while Melina’s elder brother ended up partially taking control of her father’s company Melina ended up as a twenty three year old woman expected to only get married, have kids, look after husband’s affairs and raise said children. To this end she had been introduced to many other high class members of society just to get married to them for no reason beyond keeping her father’s business contacts happy.

Repressed emotions have their limit and it was on the day of her wedding, one Melina didn’t want, that she finally snapped. Desiring nothing more than to escape her life Melina ran away from home one night, fleeing into the streets of the city as darkness fell...only to discover horrifying demons showing up and the reality she had known breaking around her. Simply put it was the last straw and as Melina had been physically beaten and emotionally abused her entire life she lost it.

Melina’s general mental weakness couldn’t handle this reality and refused to accept it. After all, Melina was supposed to be a weak subservient wife… Things like that weren’t supposed to happen to her! She didn’t even know why she was here but alas, it was a little bit too late for her to go back. Sadly her already fragile and undeveloped ego was easily devoured by her Shadow but...as Melina died, in a sense, she asked her shadow to live the life Melina never got to. That and to reveal the truth of all these demons (after all demons are dangerous!) to the world. Having agreed to that Melina fled into the depths of the Backlight, indirectly helped by the presence of Demons in the city after dark.
