Musical Messages [Cecil]

Looking out the window of her room and letting out a yawn, Calanthe looked down at her computer as she sighed and adjusted her glasses. Her mom had allowed her to set up a forum account to 'talk about her study habits', and nothing more, nothing less.

But she was getting (though she wouldn't admit it) a bit tired of just watching people talk about X-axis and y-value and bullet journals...It was getting kinda repetitive! So as she looked around for something different --something caught her eye.

'There's a forum for music? I didn't know that there was a forum for music!'

As she double clicked on the link and looked at the topic titles, she was quite interested, so she decided to set up an account and (after a bit of fiddling with the user controls) make a forum topic of her own.

Subject: What type of music do you like?

[Logical_Orchid]: This may be dumb and overused, but I think this would be something nice to talk about!

'There,' She thought as she internally did a fist-pump. 'That seemed simple enough!...but how do I know if someone replies to me? What'll happen if someone replies?'

And so she watched the screen...and waited anxiously.

It took a little bit of time (and a whole lot of refreshing the page) befor anything happened. Eventually, another post appeared after Calenthe's.


Sealed_Stars: Huh. Surprised this hasn't picked up.
I end up listening to a lot of stuff, really. Whatever's good for the mood I'm in, or just for drowning out the surroundings. I've ended up with a lot of electronic stuff of various kinds though, if I had to say anything.

How about you, OP? You never mentioned.

After refreshing the page a bunch of times, she noticed another post and began to quickly scan. 'They...want to know my favourite type of music...why--wait, I asked that in the topic.' She thought as she began to type a fast response to the other user.

[Logical_Orchid]: Oh, I prefer whatever fits what i'm doing at the time, something nice and slow for studying...pop music for gaming and classical on some occasions too!

"There, that seems good." She whispered to herself as she hit [Send], waiting for the other user's response.

The next reply comes in a lot faster.


Sealed_Stars: Can't say I listen to too much of either of those. Classical's nice and all, but it's just not something that usually catches my ear. As for pop...
...well, it only tends to be J-pop I can listen to much of. Not to go into it too much, but they generally don't do much to sound too interesting to me. As it is, the amount of songs about the making or breaking of a relationship is ridiculous.

[Logical_Orchid]: Wow, that's a nice song! I really haven't listened to much J-pop, but the songs I have listened to have a fast beat; it's kinda unnerving to me. Black and Gold is a catchy tune, but one of the songs I love is kinda old. I have a link to it on my clipboard, here.

Meanwhile, outside the screen, Calanthe is sitting crosslegged, watching the screen on one hand and reading a textbook on her bed, humming softly. 'Oh god, what if I'm studying and the user answers me when my computer di-No, I'll be fine, I just have to wait.' She repeatedly thought to herself.

On the other end of the screen, Cecil stops a moment. He grabs his headphones to plug in, and listens.
It's a lovely five minutes to himself.
Letting out a relaxed sigh, he rereads the post, before going off to find something else.


Sealed_Stars: Really? Fair enough then. A lot like to keep up the pace, but not all of them. Have to find something later.
Nothing wrong with old tracks. That's a nice one. It's for a lovely melancholy sound to it.
How about something else, though? Another old track?

Meanwhile, Calanthe turns on the music and after a bit of waiting starts lightly bouncing up and down to the beat, as she smiles to herself. It's a catchy seven and a half minutes for her.
Giggling, she rereads the post before responding.

[Logical_Orchid]: That was really catchy! It was fastpaced and cheery sounding, I liked it! I have another song, it's something I like to listen to when I'm done studying. It's sorta recent, but I think it's good.

Looked like the thread was starting to pick up. More posters were trickling in, though they were mainly throwing links about...as usual, he guessed.
Time to get typing.


Sealed_Stars: I like it. Short and sweet.
Again, nothing wrong with new stuff either. Old, new...it's all good as long as it's not crap. Quality tends to transcend time.

Cala smiled. The thread was beginning to pick up slightly, with some people linking to random songs, throwing links everywhere. 'It's a bit bothersome...' She thought as she began to type her reply to Sealed_Stars, bringing one of her hands up to adjust the red frames slipping down her nose, 'But they're not doing too much harm... I think...Are they?'

[Logical_Orchid]: That sounded really cool! With those beats, it sounded kinda like someone was getting ready for an important event! I got another song, it's something I kinda have a small guilty pleasure of listening.

Sealed_Stars: Not far off. It's the leadup to another track...though I feel like that one's less to your taste. Go for a lot of melancholy material, don't you?
Not sure if you'd call it a guilty pleasure, but there's a certain artist I've followed a while now. As far as I'm concerned, they do good work. Try this - it's one of her more recent ones.

'Why is it so catchy?!' A part of her mind mused before being silenced by a refresh. Oh, Sealed responded too! That's kinda good, seeing as they're the only one having a conversation.

Scanning through the post, she sighs and begins to type.

[Logical_Orchid]: Nice, I was somewhat on point! And yeah, I do go for a lot of melancholy stuff. The instrumentals are just calming to me, the lyrics don't really matter unless I listen hard. I've never heard that song before, it's pretty upbeat sounding. Speaking of upbeat...i have another song! It's dubstep though...

Wouldn't have necessarily called that upbeat? Not sure what I'd describe it as admittedly, but..it's a song. That I like. Which is good.

And people are talking about Nickleback now. Why did someone have to post Nickleback music?!

This was starting to get messy...the memes were pouring in, and a flame war was picking up with the introduction of Nickelback to the thread. That, and more memes.
Probably going to have to abandon ship at some point soon.
Well...then newbie was going to find out about this kind of stuff sooner or later.

Out of confusion, Calanthe clicks the link...and bursts out laughing. "Hahaha, oh my god!" She manages to get out as the laughing slowly dies down. The memes were invading the thread and a argument was starting up about Nickleback.
