| You know those times you wish you could be somewhere else, even though you can’t? Yeah, that’s pretty much me just about right now. Work is work though, so gotta do what I gotta do to stay in the game the way I need to. I do have to wonder who the hell invented night patrols however. Just think about it pal. Ain’t it a pain in the ass to have to wander around and watch mostly dead night streets while not getting any shut eye for yourself? Since these weird events that’s been happening recently…or so I’ve heard about, all the folk have been more on edge when it came to security in Junction, and this area seemed to have some vandal activities over the couple past days too. So lo and behold, ‘ol me doin’ a watch to make sure nothing shady happens tonight. To be frank, I’m probably the shadiest person in this place right now, but I digress. Ain’t gonna seriously complain about bein’ at work and technically having nothing to do. Don’t consider myself enough of a workaholic to wish for larger workloads. Nah, not me man. I like keeping what remains of my sanity alive for the future.
Anyways, not that I’ve been tracking the time religiously at all, but I’ve probably been alternatin’ between sitting here like a stray mutt and walking around for surveillance for about two boring hours for now. It’s so dark I can’t even tell what hour of the night it is. Wonderful. When are the ghosts comin’ out? I’d like at least someone to play with for a while. Sighing lowly, I’d play with my useless gun imitation, throwing it into the air and catching in as it fell. Heh, perhaps I ought to try jugglin’ one day. Maybe I’d be good at it. On second thought however…ain’t wanna look like a circus dog. People probably think me to be some werewolf wannabe already anyway, I shouldn’t give em more reason to call me shit. Albeit, I’m technically a mongrel anyway. Meh.
What was I on agai-Oh, right, wantin’ some entertainment. Well, it seems like I got one now, though it was hardly what I wished for. Lord save me..actually, don’t. Not like I believe in God. Sticking my gun back into its holster, I’d pick myself off the ground with a grumble before shufflin’ off in the direction of the wailing I’ve heard just a moment ago. By the way, I totally wished I didn’t hear it, cause it turned out to be some stinky kid, crying about gettin’ lost. Geez, what’s a lil brat like that even doing outside in the middle of the night? Oh wait, it’s the Slums…I guess anythin’ can really happen down here. Sometimes. Can’t say I keep an eye on this place 24/7. It’d give me cancer. I mean, not that it’s literal shit, but it does have a lot of crazy things happening from time to time. Guess it really is a hub for the baddies. Not that this revelation really surprises me though. Yeah…this kiddo though…well, I guess I’m gonna be a good cop tonight, so I tried askin’ him where he lived, which mind you took me a good thirty minutes cause the brat didn’t wanna stop bawling for a long while. Thankfully for my glorious patience, I eventually got him to tell me so I could try and walk him home. Try bein’ the keyword. It ended up being more of a carry job within the next five minutes when the little fella started complainin’ about his feet hurting. I still wonder how he managed to get all the way out there in the first place. Kids these days, really.
But yeah, a bunch of sufferin’ later, I got the guy delivered to his mom safely, doin’ my best to make a nice impression on the woman until the front door got shut again. Now my ears could rest, though I still had a couple hours of watch on my back. Time seriously needs to fly faster on some days. I totally should have brought some chalk with me and just draw random stuff on the sidewalks. That would have been at least somewhat entertaining. Though, that would just get me in trouble too, eh? Man, what a pain. You really can’t do nothin’ if you wanna be a good guy. Stalking back and forth through the area as I waited for the signs of dawn to finally come, I wondered how many times am I gonna end up stuck doin’ these boring jobs in the future. Gotta say though, at least there’s a pretty low chance of me getting’ seriously hurt or killed while on calm outings like this one, but someone honestly needs to come up with a way to make it less of a drag. What’s a guy to do for hours in the middle of figurative nothing? Outside of rescuing lost babies, but that was hardly what I came here for to begin with. The irony of me doin’ babysitting instead of dealing with any actual criminals. What’s next? Professor Grex teaching at college? Nah, that’s be too much of a nightmare. Can’t take most of the young flunkies seriously enough for that to become reality. Don’t get your hopes up, pal. But yeah, it was almost time for me to get goin’ now. That was totally a very fruitful night, I tell ya. I guess I did a good deed though, so nobody can accuse me of slacking on the job. The fact that nothin’ else really came up is not my fault, and if someone claims so, I’ll gladly show them the bird. Ain’t gonna be a better person by makin’ up cases for myself where they don’t exist. Although I admit it would be a good way to het some plus points to my name. Too much effort to stage however, so I’ll leave that for some other punk to try. Heaven knows there’s plenty brainiacs walkin’ around…Word Count : 1008 | |
