With so much stuff happening over the last few days, what with the whole Terrorist business and the apparent mess he was getting himself into without even realizing it, Frog barely had any time to rest, and this day wasn't different in any way from the now well-established status quo. The sheets of his bunk bed ruffling around his silhuette in the darkness of the closed off room-a chast and safe haven of his, as he gripped them and turned over and over again in a restless daydream, he considered what he was about to face that night. It was scary to think about, so much so he was too afraid to wonder how it was going to feel actually standing before the Suzie Q when the time for action, their big debut, finally arrived. Fighting in the Platinum Playhouse was porbably child's play to whatever was waiting for them in the lair of an actual murderous cannibalistic brainwashed and ultra powerful Endymion District Head. Not only that, but he had so many other things he had to do on the day as well...all the new people he had to go and meet, and all the arrangements he'd made...he would be dead tired by the time night rolled around, and god knows how it would reflect on him tomorrow if he even lived through to see the light of day again.
An echoing footstep near his room's door and a creak signaled the arrival of someone from his family. His mother creeped her head through the door with a wide grin on her face, teeth shining in the darkness, before she flipped the light switch on, spilling it across the entire room. Frog winced, blinded by the light, and rolled his head under the bed sheets. Alexa leaned against the wall as Titus peeked his head through interestedly as well. She smiled, though Frog didn't see it, and started playing with her hair. She told him she was going to take Titus out and that Frog was free to go wherever he wanted for the remainder of the day. Not that he had a choice. Frog responded to her, telling her he'd probably be back late, as he turned over onto his back, arm over his forehead, and she shrugged. Muttering something probably non-encouraging, she left the room and closed the door again, leaving Frog annoyed that she didn't bother turning the lights back off. It stung, the lamp hanging from the ceiling, far too close to his face since he was on a top bunk, yet he couldn't bring himself to stand up and go turn it off on his own. A pained deliberation overtook him as he let himself droop further into the bedsheets, unable to find a fixed position that he could be comfortable in. Life could be so difficult at times, you know. Yet he knew that his state of living was enviable. What was one's blessing was another's curse, or something on that matter. He wasn't going to change his opinion because poverty existed and his family was rather well-off. He was still unhappy with the state of things, if only his lack of self-identity or freedom, freedom of speech within the house, etc. Even Teecups's non-stop banters got on his nerves. No, scratch that. The last part isn't anything that should be surprising. The point was being that he might have a warm and cozy bed to sleep in. Food and money for all the games he wanted. But. He couldn't freely access any of that. The conundrum of it all and the conclusion of the story is that he was a dick. And what he was about to do before setting out for the rest of the afternoon and the night would be yet another rather dickish move on his part. Yes, if you're already on track to where this is going, it's about money, of course. There was never enough money to have. Be it for lunch money or the money everyone from the family gave him for every major and minor holiday and his birthday, there could never be enough of it. Games were expensive, his credit card brand new and already emptied. It was saddening, really.
Turning the phone over to check the time, it was already far later than the young man had anticipated. He groaned, the crackled voice resounding through the entirety of the four walls that confined him, keeping him locked away from the world that was bound to bind him as well, and pushed himself lazily, basically dragging his feet over the bed and onto the knees. Looking down the steps leading up to his bunk bed, Frog slowly, fingers trembling, descended downwards, one step at a time so as to prevent the schemes of his slippery socks. They were always such screw-ups. Back on the hard wood flooring, Frog straightened his shirt out. He'd already gotten ready to go back out, and just had to pick his backpack up. The light switch stood before him, and he found himself elated at its helplesness. Way too much vigor built up within him as he slowly but deliberately rolled his cheeky middle finger down the wall, starting at the point of his forehead and slowly working its way down towards the flipping source of his misery. The excitement was real, and his guts fluttered with the tenderness of a butterfly as he pressed the middle finger on the switch, telling it to fuck off once and for all, at least for the remainder of the day.
And everything went dark once more.
Frog opened the door and walked into the empty living room of their house. Tee was doing homework in her room and his father was still working. The amphibious royal slid his feet one after another in a grueling imitation of a gait, grayness of his retina focused solely on the window where he knew his fat turd of a father figure kept all the money at. His wallet clicked open, empty, but soon no more, as Frog grabbed the cold hard yet oh so frail cash and stuffed it inside with a glee only conceivable by one performing the act of such treason. The wallet was now filled, filled to the brim, filled so much it could barely be closed, and Frog knew nobody would notice anything. Nobody ever did. With a newfound spring in his step, he waltzed over to the mirror to fix his hair up and check for any sign of a beard growing. Sadly, none. Knocking on Tee's door, her response was a belated shout over the sound of music in her earphones. She told him goodbye, and he told her the same, for it was goodbye all right, goodbye to the everyday boredom and a welcoming embrace for the night that was to come, a festival of their strength and their first real test.
"..." And he was walking towards it wordlessly, as the Amphibian Prince.
