Batting Cages [Froger] Empty
PostSubject: Batting Cages [Froger]   Batting Cages [Froger] EmptyFri Apr 21, 2017 5:24 pm

Day 4?
Afternoon

Late in the afternoon, the sun wasn’t low but it was already hiding behind the skyscrapers of the city. An orange glow over long shadows, it was a nice day to laze about doing nothing of consequence. It is odd that it could be someone's fear, real fear. That to pause for even a moment to look back and reflect could tip someone over the edge so far that they might never come back. It was what Esra Dean tried her hardest not to be kept awake over at night. Working her body so hard after school that there was no space for dream, haunting nightmares or idle thoughts.
Batting Cages [Froger] Baseball_zpseqt95hir

Shoulders tensed, elbow bent and knees tilted to bring her forwards. A clank, a thrum and a flick as a ball fired out towards her. A silver bat swung from behind her head as she stepped forwards, into the ball. It was muscle memory by now but it still required her full attention, a clang as ball met metal and a rattle as it slammed into the chain link fence a few meters away. Before there was much more than a moment to admire her work she stepped into her stance again, bat up, feet spread. The next ball already in the chamber and aimed squarely next to her.

The girl was wearing a full set of jersey, trousers, boots, gloves and helmet in white and blue. A mistake could still hurt, getting killed wasn’t entirely impossible. Long black hair fell down her back loosely since she wouldn’t be running for now as she took another robotic pitch. Adjusting her grip, another, another.

A bead of sweat dripped down her brow as she frowned into the tube, a flicker in the back of her mind. A name, a face, a broken nose. A furious grunt escaped her as the ball rocketed back down the cage to slam into the gate. Breathing that been steady was deep and laboured as she forced it back down. Trying to choke back useless, pointless thoughts. Time was running short, red eyes flared up as another ball came. Out of stance she bunted it down safely, angrily.

Batting Cages [Froger] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Batting Cages [Froger]   Batting Cages [Froger] EmptySat Apr 22, 2017 7:57 pm

It was strange for Frog to stay at the Academy after hours and anyone who knew Frog would know how much he hated irregularities disrupting his day to day schedule. Today, however, was certainly not a regular day. No, because today, he was feeling it. Yes, it. The unbridled rage that seethed through his very being.

Why was he so angry? Perhaps it was the influx of friendships he had developed in the past few days, all chipping away at his free time he could've spent procrastinating as he did nothing but play games or watch some shitty anime.

So what better way to solve his anger management issues than try something new? Something he'd always wanted to try but nobody ever took him there because his family was full of uncivilized and outdated shitheads that still lived in the previous century.

And so he stepped onto the fields, his goal clear to him. He could feel himself shaking slightly, like always when he did something out of his comfort zone, and being here alone was way out of it. Maybe he could turn back? No, that would make him weak. Yes, very pathetically weak to the point where he'd smash his head against the wall over it for a couple of days if he just went home now. All his things for the day were handled, except those he actually liked doing, so there weren't any problems.

He stopped by a batting range where some girl was doing the rounds. One after another after another...there was something forceful and unhinged in the way she treated the balls. Yes, very enticing indeed. As there were no other open ones, Frog stood by to wait.

Batting Cages [Froger] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Batting Cages [Froger]   Batting Cages [Froger] EmptySun Apr 23, 2017 7:30 pm

She made him wait, the minutes ticked by until it was clear he wasn't going anywhere and the guilt was building up and up inside her. She was the one in the club, the one that was meant to be here. He was, who exactly? Maybe she had seen him around but not enough to put a name to a face, or a face to a face. Somewhat raged out and like normal feeling pretty fantastic compared to how she normally did Esra rode the elation.

Tapping the bat against her shin there was another reason as well, the basket was empty. Picking up one of the balls from the ground she approached the gate, "Did you need something?" Leaning against the fence she looked at his glasses with something that might have passes as the slightest smile. Her voice fell in the odd range between being cold and distant while also really emotive. There was weight in each of her words, seriousness rather than playfulness.

He didn't have a bat. If he was here to try and use the machine without a helmet, he could die. No that was silly, he must be here for something else. Nothing came to mind.

Batting Cages [Froger] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Batting Cages [Froger]   Batting Cages [Froger] EmptyTue Apr 25, 2017 5:09 pm

As much as preparations went, Frog wasn't one to bother. He neither knew the actual dangers of a batting cage nor any regulations and/or clubial affiliations necessary to make use of the facility. He was just there, for a goal, and he was probably about to turn around and run back the way he came from. But he didn't, as the slight response from the girl disrupted the shifting equilibrium between fight and flight in his mind, proning him to stand still, feet glued down by the soil.

"Well...not really." He answered her, hand scratching the back of his head as his gaze shifted up. He didn't wanna admit his actual purpose here. It was all easier when nobody questioned you. When you were alone in something.

Except when it wasn't, but that's irrelevant for the situation.

"I s'ppose I got lost..?"
He added, looking into her face now, but only momentarily. He quickly shifted his gaze away again. "Or something. Totally not here for any particular reason."

Batting Cages [Froger] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Batting Cages [Froger]   Batting Cages [Froger] EmptyTue Apr 25, 2017 7:26 pm

"Lost enough to stand there waiting for," Rolling her eyes not to say me, "Someone?" How long had it been, at least a few minutes. Now it was safer by far to leave it at that but, well, she'd already started speaking to him at this point. Taking a deep breath she looked him over again, trying to work him out. You didn't wait that long not to use something. Either he wanted to hit balls with a metal club or he wanted to spend time with her. She didn't even know his name, whatever.

Sighing she looked into his glasses if not his eyes, "I don't think you should use the pitching machine unless you know how." Unhitching the gate she flicked up the bat and held the slightly sweaty grip towards him. Batting was a good stress relief but throwing balls at people wasn't exactly bad either. Hardly an expert on people she'd guess something was up with him. Finding a somewhat healthy outlet wasn't a bad idea, or at least she thought it was a good one. "You know how to hold a bat right?" Most people had the sense to avoid her, it was nice that someone was completely obvious.

Frog blushed as he moved his torso backwards away from the girl's question. "N-no of course I'm not waiting for anyone." He answered abruptly, frowning a bit. He seemed to have decided on where to look as his eyes were now focused on the girl. She surprised him when she opened the gate and proceeded to hand him the bat. His eyes widened at the prospect before narrowing once again when she asked him whether he could hold a bat.

"Yeah, of course I can hold a bat, hmph. Who can't hold a bat, amirite? Heheh..."
Of course he could do it, right? It couldn't be too different than playing baseball games, RIGHT? Reluctantly, he grabbed the grip she handed him, not wanting to dry away the sweatiness while she was still watching-that would be kinda rude-so he just dealt with it for now, wincing internally at the grossness. Once he held it for a couple of moments and had figured how weighty it actually felt in his hands (too damn weighty), he realized he didn't know what to do now. He looked at her for some clues, letting his hand holding the bat rest at his side. "Uhm, so what am I supposed to do...now? How do you use the machine?"

"You don't." Esra frowned at him appearing to be rather lacking in the everything department. Taking a moment to settle her annoyance, more than a little clearly. "Stand down there in the box, I'll pitch." Bending her knees she picked up one of the stray balls and rolled it across the palm of her hand. She was a good enough pitcher, though she liked being on base more.

Once he was down there, looking at his stance and how uncomfortable he seemed, "You have played Baseball before right?" There was an aggrievement in her tone. She did not expect to teach someone anything this evening.

"Wait, I don't..?" Frog looked at the girl in confusion. Then what was she giving him the bat for? Oh, oh...so she was gonna pitch. Since he'd never really dealt with anything like this, that was actually ok kinda... He followed her motion to the spot she told him to stand at and did what he could to prepare himself. He wiggled in the spot, trying to adjust his feet somehow so that he faced her sideways but still felt like he had enough balance not to fall like a pear. He then motioned with the bat behind his back, holding it with both hands, and crouched a bit. Rotating the bat along its axis he tried a couple of clumsy swings, almost falling down with each one of them.

"T-totally." He lied. "I mean, who hasn't played baseball in their life, am I right? Nhahaha..." He glanced to the side with a sheepish grin on his face.
He couldn't guess what the girl was gonna do next...

PostSubject: Re: Batting Cages [Froger]   Batting Cages [Froger] EmptyMon May 01, 2017 10:30 am

If he had never played and didn't even have a bat, what did he expect to do here this evening? There was a nagging thought in the back of Esra's mind as she looked down at him, she could do this. Think of him as smaller, like the kids back are the orphanage. A tiny smile crossed her lips as she closed her eyes for a moment, "Drop your knees a little and stick to the front of your feet." Watching to make sure he did so she offered encouragement, "Good, watch the ball, not me."

Twisting her fingers to make sure he had a good view of the white she twisted her waist and shoulders slightly as she took a step forwards. Rather than a proper ball she threw it under arm, lazy, slow and with minimal spin. If a six year old could hit that then surely he could, he reeked with the lack of confidence so far. Given his over the top swings, best not to start him at the deep end.

PostSubject: Re: Batting Cages [Froger]   Batting Cages [Froger] EmptyMon May 15, 2017 6:32 am

"Ok then..." Frog said as he adjusted his posture. It felt kinda awkward at first but he could feel that it offered a better position to swing from. He didn't think he'd have to keep his eyes on the ball though...from experience, he knew that watching the eyes of the person you're interacting with could usually grant you a much better idea of what they were going to do next, probably as the rest of their body still fell into your peripheral vision and the eyes offered small clues about where their attention laid.

He still looked at the ball and as she threw it, he tried his best to swing at it and hit it! He threw his weight forward forcefully along with the bat as strong as he could... He closed his eyes in the process.

It was no surprise that he completely missed the ball and also ended up forcing himself to take a step forward from all the weight he put in the direction. When he opened his eyes again, there was a momentary frown present over them before he sighed. "Tsk. Well, whatever. Again." He said, taking up the stance again. He wasn't gonna go until he ended up hitting it.

Batting Cages [Froger] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Batting Cages [Froger]   Batting Cages [Froger] EmptyWed May 17, 2017 5:59 pm

Esra sighed, blowing out through her nose. “I’m flattered, but do you really know enough about pitching that you can size me up? Eyes on the ball hotshot,” Sure if you were good you didn’t even need to look at the ball past once if left the hand but she was pretty sure he hadn’t held a bat before, let alone watched thousands of pitches. Smoothly she plucked another ball from the ground and rolled the dust off it before dropping into a ready stance. Rolling her shoulder she added, “This time just worry about hitting it, not how hard or where it goes. It won’t hurt you.” Referring to him closing his eyes. Little kids did that at first too, balls could be scary. The way she was throwing, even if he did step in the way it wouldn’t even dent the skin.

The swinging too hard, they did that too. The tiny ones had a tendency to totter over as well, it was adorable. Someone his age, a lack of understanding. The ball was not some immovable object, it was going to go once you got in its way. Where was the art of it, well the art of levers anyway.

Into the air she tossed it, slow and easy to see. As bad a pitch as she could manage and still have it squarely in front of him, rather just to his side. She wasn't certain why she wasn't getting angry with him for interrupting her. She certainly had been feeling angry, that was the whole point of being out here. Maybe she was just distracted, maybe.

PostSubject: Re: Batting Cages [Froger]   Batting Cages [Froger] EmptyFri May 19, 2017 7:31 am

"Okay..." Frog muttered as he readied himself again. He was gonna try to watch the ball this time, however silly that felt, maybe he'd be able to hit it. He knew he was embarrassing himself doing this, but he kinda wanted to learn. Now he was both frustrated at his failings and also driven by a will to learn something he'd not learned before, which so many people knew how to do.

So he watched the ball, from the motion of her hand through the toss and then the air, flying towards him kinda from above, wimpily. He didn't like being treated as a kid who didn't know how to do anything and getting these slow-mo balls. If she'd just throw straight he could totally hit it. But this wasn't the time for distractions. No, this was the time to flippin' hit the damn ballllllllll!!!!

"..!" The swing went with much less force this time. Frog tried to contain himself from putting all the strenght he wanted to put into it, resulting in a rather meak motion. In his attempt, he also softened the grip on the bat and, as he raised it from behind his back towards the ball, it slipped from his hand as its pole was directed slightly downwards. The bat and the ball both undramatically dropped to the ground, not even raising any dust in their wake, while Frog just stood motionless, frozen in his swinging stance, with a blank expression on his face.

Batting Cages [Froger] Empty
PostSubject: Re: Batting Cages [Froger]   Batting Cages [Froger] EmptyTue May 23, 2017 2:39 pm

The silence hung.

A dull wind caught the silence with barely a flutter, one of the loose balls rolling ever so slightly.

It seemed a long time, an age, then the silence kicked its last.

"Are,"

Esra's eyes sparked as a smile that could only be described as wicked spread so wide that might split.

"You,"

Doubling over her knees gave way slightly as well, bowing together.

"Serious?"

The laugh that rode with those words, the brutal cackle that struck terror into man and beast alike. A wide flash of her eyes signed the mirth as they locked onto the boy who was failing so hard. The clear nonsense of it all, his total ineptitude, his reaction.

Righting herself and trying to stifle the laugh with her hand Esra stepped towards him, not breaking eye contact. Given how serious she seemed before, not that many people heard her laugh. Some might think she wasn't capable of it and honestly it was a pretty scary laugh.

Clearing her throat with a cough and trying to clear the smile she stepped closer still, "Are you, okay? Seriously did you have a stroke or something?" He was exactly like a four year old, how was that possible. It wasn't like PE was optional, he really had never held a bat before. Then, the only option could be that he was stalking her. What was with that?

PostSubject: Re: Batting Cages [Froger]   Batting Cages [Froger] EmptyFri May 26, 2017 7:55 pm

Frog was terrified and confused as all heck at the time.

First of all, there was the part where he embarrassingly missed the ball again. Second of all, the girl herself was gstarting to give him the creeps. On one side, it felt like she was actually just finding it all pretty hilarious, but on the other, there was this slight tinge of insanity slowly growing and echoing through her voice and the way she moved almost spasmastically towards him.

He looked at her with raised eyebrows when she drew close, letting the bat slump down until its tip his the ground. "I think I should be asking you that question..." He said slowly as to not possibly upset her. He held the bat so he could probably bash her with it if she attempted to eat his eyes out and use them as air freshners or something, because that made more sense than she did.

"I mean, I'm okay.........I just never did this, really...and I kinda wanted to try...gah this is just embarrassing..." He ran a hand through his hair, ruffling it across his face. With both eyes he stared intently at her for a moment before breaking contact and lowering his look to the ground and the tip of the bat.
