The Background

History:

A young woman from a special background that had once lost much of its relevance from the growth of globalization and the growing modernization in China. The Cheng family have once been part of a martial society, the Jianghu, that relied on their martial skills. Much of that skill have been used to fend off demons since ancient times, without relying on demon summoning or the use of Personas either. In order to do so, many of the Cheng clan had to re-structure parts of their own body in order to better deal with these supernatural threats. In many respects, they were very much like the Catholic Church. But they have been overshadowed by the more efficient Demon Summoners and lately, the Persona Users.

Meihui Cheng had been born in a generation that lost much of its branch members due to the result of their work and self-experimentation. Though many families under this clan had retired from the work due to the decreasing relevance of the supernatural in modern times. This was especially true when they moved to the United States during the late 19th Century to cope with the decreasing amount of work in China. Meihui was the most fortunate of her generation as she never had to seriously take up the family tradition of ingesting dangerous traditional drugs and restructuring their bodies from taking in demonic body parts. While part of that was mostly because her older siblings were to be the new trusted heads of the clan, most of the Cheng clan simmered down as the world reached modern globalization.

Despite that, Meihui had experienced some level of "surface-level" ingestion and martial training as a child as a nod to the family tradition. Unlike her siblings, she was remarkably lucky to avoid most of the side-effects. And even more so as she was allowed to pursue any of her personal goals and mostly left alone, despite her insistence in getting involved. This becomes an issue to her.

Despite this, Meihui had grown up to be involved at some level with the family politics as well as the inter-clan politics of what was left of some Demon Hunting families. While deemed troublesome at times, she had been particularly useful in helping to diffuse conflict. But also been noted that she was one that made admirable and perhaps fearsome grabs for personal power whether it be martial or political. Many other clan members and even outsider clans have found it a shame that she wasn't being raised to reach her full potential. Even Meihui didn't like this either, but couldn't complain as it was the Heads' final decision on the matter.

Turning away from this, Meihui had begun to devote most of her time not only training the family's personal fighting style, but also studying the academic. She was pursuing her own personal advancement, not as just some egghead slave to be used by companies and politicians, but as someone who would seek out power for herself.

But even then, there was nothing of utmost interest like the conflicts within the Jianghu. She adored conflict, where she could quickly advance and better herself. Endymion was an open opportunity, especially after events of the Eternal Divide. While the Cheng clan had found new relevance in their work, Meihui had parted ways with them to seek out newer pastures.
