| It was an amazing feeling, she knew she loved sharing happiness, but the feeling she got from it would always surprise her and make her feel warm inside. Plus it was great to have a friend closer to her age... Or at least one who's a kid. She'd smile at him warm heartedly and hold out her little finger to him. "Friends forever!"
Callie took a moment to stare around the cafeteria, looking at the groupings of people together, most of which she knew would've been family's gathered for just another lunch together... She'd rather shrug off the whole topic, but the boy seemed curious and she didn't want to leave him with no information at all... She always hated it when people did that to her! "Well..." She'd begin softly. "Heh, unless you count Lulu as a family member. No, I don't live with family." She wouldn't make eye contact as she spoke and instead continued to stare at the countless families in the food court, stroking her teddy's head slowly and softly.
"T-the day I started?" Hmm, now that was a hard question to answer. Plus not really one she wanted to go into much detail about, especially as she had already started feeling sorry for herself and that wasn't the idea of this whole thing! She was meant to be happy! A-and share that happiness around, how can she share it if she doesn't have it herself? "I don't really remember properly, it was quite a while ago and I haven't really thought much about it." She'd eventually respond, trying her best to lie convincingly. "I suppose it was just the first day of a new life, ya know?"

| Huh? Oh, that was weird... Was she an orphan then...? On... That was sad. He had heard stories of kids that didn't have either a mom, dad, or family members. They were called orphans... They either lived in a house full of orphans, or with a foster family. He didn't exactly want to delve further into that... It'd be rude if he did. So... He'd change the subject, obviously.
"O-Oh, okay..." he'd say simply. How did she just not know these things... Something was obviously and definitely wrong about her, and it kind of scared the boy... However, he was also glad that she was at least nice and friendly. However, he was worried... Was she okay? Did she... Have a home?

| Noticing the worried look upon Zavie's face she tried to reassure him. "But don't worry though, I'm fine. Always have been, always will." She smiled as she thought about everything she had done to survive so far... It was a pretty rollercoaster of a life if she was honest but she was content with it. No point moping over what you don't have, it just makes what you do have more special!
Callie decided to lighten up the conversation again, it didn't have to be all about her now did it? Besides it was the boys birthday! No need getting him down with her troubles now, plus she wanted to know more about him too! "Anyway, what do you enjoy doing? Like, ya know a favorite hobby or pass time? Something you enjoy doing to pass the time!" She'd pause for a moment before adding. "I enjoy sitting in the arcade, all the lights and the sounds and the cries of other kids laughing. I love it there, it's filled with joy!"

| He'd nod, putting on a smile. He really didn't know what to say. Did she really not live anywhere? That kind of worried him... Was she okay? Safe? Healthy? Oh, he was worried... Boo. Oh well, she didn't seem to want to worry him, so... He'll put on a smile and nod his head. Hopefully she wasn't lying just to spare his feelings... He'd be even more worried if she did!
"Oh... I like looking at pictures of cats and baking! My parents own a bakery, they taught me everything I know!" he'd say, quite literally as well. He was home schooled, so everything he knew was a direct cause of his parents. It made him happy knowing that. It meant his parents really loved him.
"The arcade? I have never been to one of those... They sound fun, though." he'd say with a nod of his head, a light smile across his face. He wondered what they were like... Maybe one day he'd be able to go to one! But right now, he knew his parents wouldn't be happy if he did...

| She'd giggle to herself, the boy seemed as obsessed with cats as she was with foxes. Although he definitely was more open with sharing that fact, she herself usually found the conversations she brought up about foxes tended to lead to more awkwardness later down the line. Regardless, owning a bakery was pretty awesome! If ehm... She was thinking of the right place, she wasn't sure. "Ohh a bakery! That's the place that makes all of the bread kindsa food isn't it?... Oh and cakes too!" Would that also mean he lived inside a shop? She didn't know people did that.
"Yeah the arcade is awesome!" She'd fantasies for a moment all of the fun and exciting attractions that place had, it was truly special to watch all of the excitement that went on there. At least for Callie that is. "I've always wished I could actually play one of those games in there though. But they don't work without money." Pausing for a moment to think, she wished she could share the feeling she got from the place with Zavie... "Hey! I know. Maybe sometime in the future if we meet up again I can take ya there? I-if you'd want me to that is."

| Wasn't a bakery common knowledge...? You baked things! And you could really only bake wheat and flour... So, breads and cakes were what was commonly made there. The fact she knew so little on such common things confused him... But, he didn't want to worry her. He wanted her to be happy, just like him!
"Mhm mhm! We make the best bread and the sweetest sweets ever!" he'd say with a smile. He loved his home... Who else lived above a bakery? There house always smelt super nice and awesome! What more could he ask for?
"Oh... You would bring me? I would love to go then! Just... When I'm older, okay? he'd say with a smile. He didn't want to run off right now with how his parents were acting... He'd probably scare them. Well, he could go when he was older and smarter! That'd be super fun!

| "Hehe, that sounds awesome! I'd love to come see it sometime. I bet the whole place would smell amazing!" She thought she passed a bakery at some point, she could definitely remember a sudden sweet scent to her nose that was accompanied by people walking out of some kind of building with bags full of baked goods. Although she never explored the place herself, the smell alone from a distance was enough to make her really hungry. Yet she knew she wouldn't be able to get anything so she didn't tempt herself further at the time.
She smiled joyously and would ruffle the top of the boys hood. "It's a date!" This was amazing, Callie hadn't felt this happy in a long, long time. Not only for the fact that she made a new friend, or that it was just going well in general. But the fact she knew she did it by cheering him up in the first place! She had always wanted to try and spread happiness, she had always thought most people in the world were always too miserable! Yet the feeling of actually doing it was way better than she had ever hoped for!
"Oh!..." A sudden thought crossed Callie's mind that disappointed her slightly... Although hopefully there was a way around it... Maybe he'd know a way? "Zavie! I know the trinkets will bring us good luck in the search... But... How will we keep in touch?" This was a problem she hadn't really had to face before. Usually the few nice people she met were near where she lived cause she didn't venture out much. B-but what if he lived really far away! She wouldn't even know where to look if she was told an address either. And it wasn't like she wanted to tell him exactly where she lived either, with how he reacted to some of the things she said earlier it would just worry the boy... Awww... Nothing was ever easy!

| He smiled brightly. Hah! He loved it when people complimented his bakery. It really was the best place ever! And it wasn't because that was almost entirely his whole world. He really did love his home. It smelt wonderful, felt wonderful, he loved his bedroom, he loved baking, he loved everything about it! What more could he possibly ask for in a life like this? He was content with it, through and through.
"You should totally come see it some time! It is the best place ever! Promise promise!" he'd say with the enthusiasm of the little kid he was. He loved the bakery and everything about it. It made him ecstatic knowing someone loved his home too! "Oh, when you come over, you should totally try some of our cookies! And also some of our taiyaki! That's one of our specialties! They're shaped like fish, so they're super super good!" he'd say, practically bouncing in his seat. Who'd have thought this subject would suddenly make him so talkative? It was a nice change, though.
"Okay then! I can't wait!" he'd say at the comment about the arcade. He was excited for that future endeavor. Maybe he could bring some money so she could play one of the games? That'd be fun. It'd also be really fun for Callie as well.
"O-Oh... Um... I dunno..." he'd say with a light frown. He didn't have a phone, and he wasn't allowed on the computer very often... But, she doubted Callie had either of these things either. How would they stay in touch? Hm...
"Oh... Um, I have an idea. Maybe we could throw paper airplanes? When we find one, it'll keep us in touch and then we can reply with another one. It'll be fun, right?" he'd say with a nod of his head. However, this idea was more like a story book fairy tale if anything... But, he seemed optimistic about it. If an airplane was found next to the bakery, he could find it and read it and send one flying for Callie! It'd work wonders, he knew it.

| Callie would smile brightly. "Don't worry, I promise!" It would be fun to spend more time with Zavie in the future, like real friends do! Plus it would be awesome to see where he lived, she couldn't remember the last time she actually went inside a proper house. "R-really? You'd share some of your food with me? That would be so sweet of you! B-but ya know I wouldn't have the money to... Um... Pay for any of it..." She would share in his enthusiasm if the answer was yes, she just had to make sure first. Not many places would offer food for free!
She'd smile and giggle lightly. Aside from the fact she knew that would be next to impossible for that to actually work. She also knew that even if they could stay in touch that way, she wasn't able to read or write... So how they'd actually say anything to each other would still be an issue! Plus she didn't have any paper... "Sorry Zavie." She'd begin, shaking her head. "Even if we could get that to work, which would be really cool! I don't know how to read... Or write for that matter." Honestly for her, she was more impressed that he knew how to than felt stupid that she didn't! She didn't realize it was such an essential skill to most peoples lives. "But don't worry, we'll think of something!"

| She couldn't even pay for things...? The arcade made sense, in a way. If she had money, she wouldn't spend it on games, right? But... If she couldn't buy food, how did she eat? Did she take food from the trash cans? Ew... That couldn't be healthy... Maybe she hunted for it? But, there weren't a lot of wild animals that lived here, not the eating kind anyways... Oh, he was worried again. Hmph...
"I'm sure I could give you some. I get an allowance, so I could just buy some for you!" he'd say with a smile. Sharing was caring, right? Though, it was still confusing... Was it possible she just... Had nothing? Who just had nothing? Everyone had something... There were homes for people that had no one to look after them... Didn't she at least live there? It worried him...
"Y-You... Don't know how to read or write...? Didn't you go to school? Even I go to school! Mmn... I'm not sure how we'd stay in touch then. You kind of need to know how to read and write for letters, and all kinds of things!" he'd say with a light sigh. This was confusing. Callie was confusing... Mmn... How would they stay in touch?

| Aww... He was so sweet, but she wouldn't want to have him pay for her. She wasn't really sure how much money other kids would have but she didn't want him wasting his money on her. She'd smile back regardless. "That's really sweet of you Zavie. B-but you shouldn't have to use your money on me. I'd have no way to repay you and I'd feel guilty about that!" The only thing she could think of to do to repay the boy would be giving him another present. W-which could work! She found a lot of very interesting things lying around the place, as long as he liked the same kinda things as her that would work, right?
Callie shook her head again. "Nope. I've heard some people talk about that school thing though! Some people talk a lot about it when they walk past, it sounds like its really hard work whatever it is with how much they complain about it!" She'd giggle, school didn't sound very interesting to her at all. By what she had heard it sounded tiring and just a thing that's there to keep kids busy. As long as she knew how to survive why would she ever need anything else? "Hmm... Well never you worry too much Zavie. If we can't think of a direct way to keep in touch, the two fox toys will bring us back together in time!" She hoped the little trinkets worked more than once, o-otherwise she'd have to find more every time before she met up with Zavie again!

| Oh... Well, he'd still spend money on her. That was that. Though, he'd do it in secret to keep her happy. He didn't want Callie feeling worried or annoyed that she couldn't repay him, so buying her treats in secret would be the best thing ever! Mhm mhm!
"Oh... Okay. Well, I'll see what I can do when you come and visit." he'd say with a nod of his head. He already had his plan for when she eventually came over. It'd be easy! All he had to do was distract her a bit, then he'd put some of his money in the cash register, then he'd give her some sweets! Easy as pie!
"Hm? Well, school can be kind of hard... But it's super important, you know. If you don't go to school, you don't get a job later on. That's what my mom and dad tell me... So, you should maybe go to school too! You'll get a job when you're older and be able to get money!" he'd say with a smile and a nod of his head. He honestly didn't understand how Callie had simply never gone to school. She wouldn't be able to live in the world without knowing the basics of education... She'd be in a hard place later on if she never got one.
"Oh, well, okay then. I hope we meet each other soon again then!" he'd say with a nod of his head. He would love to meet her again. Though, with a gentle grab of the boy's wrist, he'd look up to see his smiling father. Oh, it seemed it was time to go. Before being picked up by his father, the boy would wave at Callie and hold up the fox toy.
"Byyyyyye Callie! We'll see each other again, okay?" he'd say with a smile, his father waving lightly at the child before walking off with his son in his arms. Wait, where was the food? Oh, it was over there, yay! Food was good...~Exit~

| She would tilt her head at the boys explanation of school. To her, there was no real reason she could see why this thing people hated and found hard could be so important. Why would you put yourself through something you hate? That just makes no sense at all! Callie would prefer to spend her days outside, learning little secrets from the land then being told this 'education' stuff. Plus it wouldn't help her get a job anyway, she had tried that before and they never cared about any of this school stuff! They'd just not work out cause they'd tell her to wear specific clothing or to not wear her hood inside and... Well that never went well. "I dunno, I think if I survived this long without it, I'll be fine~."Callie would grab Zavie's hand and pull it up then covering his hand with both of hers. "Don't you worry Zavie, I promise we will... Just I-..." Before she could finish her sentence, Zavie was pulled to his feet. His father had seemingly finished waiting in line and had lifted the boy up by the other hand. Aww... She held up her own fox toy and waved back. She'd smile warmly as he left, even though truly she was a little sad their conversation was cut short. "Baaaiii Zaviiee~" Oh well. She'd see him again some day, she just knew it! As for right now, what was she doing again? OH! She had to go find the professor, and quick before he left this place! [Exit~] | |
