MORNING - 10:23 a.m.

Let's talk about school trips!!!

You know, the trips you took with your class to go to some event or some national park or some institute all in the name of broadening the horizons of the society's younglings, who shall one day become its foundations!

For young Frog, they have always been most interesting. He'd always look forward to them, as they would mean he'd have something to do the entire day! Sure, they also meant he wouldn't be ale to play as much on his pc at home that day... but still! He'd get up early on the d-day and hurry off with his mom to school and into the bus, where he'd sit away from the others in his class, as none would wanna sit with him anyways, much to his mother's dismay, of course. The bus driver would start the engine and soon enough, he'd find himself wherever they were going.

Now, you must've already gathered that there would be some catch to this, right? Why allow Frog to have even a moment of happiness, after all! And yes, the young boy's enthusiasm would soon be curbed as the actual trip started. None of the other kids were interested at all and nothing much was going on! He'd be the only one looking at things... but they were uninteresting and boring, unlike what the brochure said at all! Not only that, but he'd gotten separated from the group and found himself alone, too shy to go and do anything by himself!

So that's what happened. Those idiotic, small-minded jerks from his class managed to ditch him halfway through the park (the teacher not noticing, of course, because who cares if Frog gets lost, yay, let's just laugh at him and have fun without him, because he's so s***) and now he was standing around all alone just looking around and around and around, spinning almost to the point of getting dizzy. The backpack lagging sackilly on his... well, back, made sure his... well, back, got as soaked in sweat as it was physically possible as panic overtook him and he finally tripped in his spinning and fell on his knees...

Cloudy days were never appealing to Brittany. To her, it's the way Mother Nature says to humans that she herself could feel gloomy sometimes, just like the rest of us. Brittany, more than anyone, could understand that. She was gloomy most of the time. To most people, it was just the way she is. "Weird", some say. "Quiet and timid", others say. Regardless of the chosen word, they were unaware of the reasons or didn't bother to care at all. The results were the same: Brittany was often alone by herself. And yet, the young girl thought that a little incursion to the notorious R&D Buildings would avert her loneliness a bit. An innocent mistake.

When she realized bad habits are hard to change, despite her childish hope, she decided it was probably for the best to retreat to an isolate bench. The park was empty, the benches were not occupied at all... Of course the nuns wouldn't be too satisfied to see the young girl alone. They hardly are satisfied with her, anyway, and she was yet to understand why. Whatever. She was not enjoying this little trip at all. She should be, after all she hardly got the chance to leave the orphanage facilities for long, so this occasion as something to celebrate. Why does it feel like a drag, however...?

"O-ow!" Frog could only yelp as he stroke the ground. He must've looked completely stupid to everybody around him.. Damn... And he felt so dizzy...

As quickly as he fell down, he got up, only thoughts running through his head being how he must've embarrassed himself and how he had no idea what to do now that they left him behind... He harbored no ill notions against them, though... Why did they have to be so mean? Not like he did anything to them to deserve to get pushed around... His face turned bright red as he was getting up, and, without looking up at all the stares that were 100% being directed at him right now, he ran in a random direction... He only stopped when he was sure he got into a part of the park where there weren't many people... Rubbing his sore butt, he could finally raise his head and look up and around himself. The sky was a dull grey... But the park still harbored so many beautiful, vivid colors... And it was huge! Like, damn huge! Huge enough for him to get lost in... Wait... He was lost, wasn't he?

Frog sighed... What now? He tried to come up with a solution as he walked around aimlessly. All the benches were empty around him... Kind of sad... and unnerving to his tender, childish mind. Something must've happened that got all the people away from here, right? A monster? Zombies? W-were they all called somewhere and he was the only one who missed the call!?!? Somehow, the final option was the scariest one... He kept walking, his heart now racing slightly faster, when suddenly, his nervous footsteps halted and his mouth opened.

There was someone on one of the benches.

He just stared at that person. A girl? But she had short hair... Was she saying something? She couldn't be much older than him, regardless... she was definitely old enough to make him all nervous and jittery... But still, it was a human being. So... should he sit next to her?

...or maybe now. He realized he couldn't as he found himself sitting on one of the empty benches next to the girl's bench and staring down at his nervously shaking feet, hands crossed on his lap.

There was some sense of relief in being alone for a while. Freedom was possibly the right word for it. Back at home, she could never ever dream of being on her own in their rooms because there were always someone around, be it agitated children who never stuck to being quiet for a change, be it employees who busied themselves with putting the same children in line, and the cycle repeats itself. Fact is, it was impossible to be alone for a moment and do things you'd never do in front of others. Like singing! Brittany didn't sing all that well. She tried to, she had a soft voice but she lacked practice. It didn't matter, she sang because it relieved her soul, as pouring all sorrow out through a melody. Poetic, right? Melancholic, even, but it was how Brittany felt. And she could only feel such when she was in company of her shadow, solely.

Turned out that, by mere distraction, she noticed much later this wasn't the case. She had company. A boy. When did he got in there? "H-how long have you been there? Did you listen??", she asked with her usual mild-pitched voice, a bit surprised and flustered. What was he thinking, suddenly assaulting her like that?

"H-huh!?" Frog froze on the spot. W-why was she so hostile all of a sudden? He didn't do anything! B-but, yes! That was the thing! He had to make sure she realizes he wasn't trying to do anything funny, that he wasn't to blame for anything, that he was innocent! He always felt so guilty in these sorts of situations himself!

But how? He couldn't really think of much to say... And his legs, they were backing away from her!!! N-no, that's not how this was gonna go... Trying his best, Frog somehow managed to halt his backwards movement and stood still, an innocent, fake smile appearing on his face as his hands tightly gripped around his torso, intersecting in the middle. His minds went blank. "I-I just got here... and I-I wasn't doing anything... And I didn't hear anything..." Words came in intervales. He didn't even think of mentioning he got lost! And now it would just sound awkward if he were to add that to what he already said!!! He knew already, that whatever excuse that would be remotely plausible would only come to his mind hours after this event... Or did he? Somewhere, maybe yes, but it was a notion too heavy for his current mindset. He would only come to realize it years later. After lots of trials and errors.

In any case, he was currently trying his best to maintain his grin as he stared at the girl.

Uh? So...he just got there? She blinked twice in silent, checking on his general behavior in search for any trace that might indicate these words were deceiving. He seemed quite...shy and flustered upon her approach, actually. Much like...herself? "A-alright...cause there wasn't anything to hear, anyway.", she averted her eyes, still recovering from the initial embarrassment that the possibility of being heard could bring. She has never seen this guy before? Was he from the orphanage as well? Hardly, she knew everybody there like the back of her hand. "Are you new to the orphanage? I've never seen you there.", in any case she decided to ask. Sometimes she was too aloof to be aware of everyone's existence. He might perfectly be a new kid who was introduced in these exact moments she was not feeling too keen for acting social. Perhaps she was wrong and he was a new sibling in her family?

There was nothing to hear, eh. He wasn't stupid not to notice her obvious lie, but, in his current condition, he was much more comfortable just ignoring this issue and moving onto proving any lies about him faulty. Speaking of... What was she saying about an orphanage? He wasn't part of any orphanage... Was she?

No time to wonder that. She probably was. "N-no, I'm actually here with my class." He stuttered and waved his hands in defense. He was still grinning apologetically all the same. "We're having a class trip..."

Oh right, this was a good moment to explain how he got lost!!! "...and I kind of got separated from my group..." He added. "B-but it's all right, I have sandwiches... I'll survive..." What was good at this point was that, however much he felt cornered and exposed and guilty in front of this girl, despite not having done anything, she seemed to be going through the same as him.

Oh, he wasn't from the orphanage? Okay, that explained it all, why she sensed this unfamiliarity with his face. That was...sort of a disappointment. Should he be an orphan like her, she could probably relate to him and warm up...

"Ah...I see...it must be fun....going to a school trip, that is.", she said, still not looking at him, waving her legs back and forth in some sort of display of anxiety. She attended middle school as well, but it was far from being fun in her book, and it wasn't a quality school at all. At least, not as much as his would be, for he could even go on a school trip! When he mentioned sandwiches, almost immediately her stomach would growl, much to her own embarrassment. Darn it... What would his new companion think? Brittany got so disconcerted that her skin blushed considerably to even cover the freckles she had all over her cheekbones up to her nose. ". . ."

"Y-yeah, reeeeal fun..." He said and chuckled, his true notions of today's events and his so-called friends breaking out for a moment before he quickly shut up and locked them away again. Immediately, he looked away in silence and let his left arm loose on the side. "W-what I meant was that they are fun, yeah..." He uttered meekly. Ummmm... This was way hard... Talking and explaining and everything... People always had the wrong idea. First, he wasn't trying to do anything wrong, but this girl had to have thought he was... And now he had a small, sarcastic outburst about his perfect life in front of someone who had probably had their fair share of problems throughout the way. He immediately felt bad and even guiltier. The wa she said it... Did she ever go on a school trip? Probably not.

In any case, a sudden growl proned him to raise his head and instinctively look towards the source. W-was it her stomach!? W-what was he supposed to do now!?!? Give one to her? Look for someone? What??? Actually doing things like this was always so hard! He knew he'd feel better just by giving a sandwich to her... but he was waiting for a 100% sure signal that she actually wanted said sandwich from him... Because, if he gave her or did something wrong... she'd just think badly of him, right? R-right?

Trembling, he continued to weigh his possibilities in this situation as his own face turned blush...

Judging from his response, it didn't seem like this boy was actually too interested in his school trip at all. She thought of it, that his reaction was tad ironic and displeased. At the same time, she wondered if he was thinking bad of her sudden display of impoliteness. Darn it, biological needs. Why did he have to mention food right now? She wouldn't be feeling hungry, or rather, hungrier if the topic wasn't brought up. The more you think about food, the hungrier you get, it's a basic law in your organism.

"S-... sorry...", that's all she could say, as she placed her hands under her thighs and looked to the opposite side to avoid the boy's stare. If only she was allowed to have a longer hair, she could use it to hide her reddening face and prevent the already established awkwardness to escalate... In any case, she glanced briefly to the boy, just to check if he wasn't mad at her...and much to her surprise, his own face was almost as red as hers. "You... are blushing too...?", she snickered. They were both dorks, and it was rather amusing. As amusing a tiny smile could even bloom in her lips for a change.

"W-why're you snickering!?" Frog shouted back at her, his blush turning even brighter red as his backpack was thrown off his back and then slumped down back on it from how quickly and forcefully he straightened himself up at that moment. But his face wasn't angry, it was more... desperate? Maybe. In any case, after that, he tried to frown but only managed to tense his face up as he let his backpack slide off on one side when he pulled his hand up. He pulled the saggy thing to his front, keeping it and his own balance on just one leg because he used the other one to support the weight of the backpack he couldn't support on his own in such an awkward position. It really appeared flustered, the way he rummaged through the bottles of soda and some snacks in the bag, before finally victoriously pulling out a sandwich out of it. It scrumptiousness shimmered in the reappearing sun for a moment, through the plastic bag it was sealed within, and Frog was mesmerized by it... That is, until he fell down flat on his butt after lofting and paying small heed to his tender balance...

The second time today... He was on his butt... In the same park.............

His reaction only served to the purpose of making it even more hilarious. Brittany wasn't prone to laughing fits, but this was hard to resist to. With a bit of effort, she managed to hold her breath, placing her hand to her mouth instead, shaking her head effusively in negation. An attempt to regain her last bit of politeness is never gone to waste; after all, he wouldn't tell a newcomer he was laughing at him. Besides, the amusement resides in the fact that both of them were...similar in a sense?

Anyway, she wouldn't do much other than spectate the boy's deeds in silence. Of course she was hungry and the mere sight of his sandwiches enticed her appetite, but she was too shy to ask. And besides, she was taught b the orphanage caretakers to never beg for food, it wasn't polite at all. Even when your body is screaming for it, like it just did moments before.

"...!", Brittany stood up quite quickly, eyes wide open out of immediate reaction to the moment he fell down on his behind. Of course she was bemused just now, but seeing someone getting maybe hurt erased all traces of a possible laughter. "Are you okay..?" The sudden fall even made her voice sound...deeper, masculine even. She kneeled down (it'd dirt her pants, but she didn't mind at all) and placed her hands at the back side of the boy's arms, in an attempt to push him upwards and help him get up. She was genuinely concerned about him. "Here, let me help you stand up, alright?"

"O-ow..." Frog repeated for the second time that day... This wasn't funny... Not at all... Twice, it happened twice!!! Who manages to fall twice in the span of less than half an hour and for no good reason at all!? And it hurt... Like, twice as much as the first time... He'd have two bruises now... Those were gona be a bummer to wash while showering... And sitting down... Yowch!

However, he had done what he set out to do. Without having to open his eyes, he knew as he felt it gripped in his hand, that the sandwich was safe... Now, he just had to give it to the girl-huh!!!

First he heard her, then a couple of steps coming towards him... And then a pair of hands pushing him upwards. The young Frog couldn't help it... His body temperature just went dangerously high! But he stayed quiet the entire time as he was getting up with her help, trying his best and keeping his utmost attention on the sandwich so that he wouldn't accidentaly lean on the hand with the sandwich and possibly ruin it... When he got up, he dusted his butt off... (Owie, it hurt...) And then...

"H-here..." He said as he turned to the girl, avoiding looking directly at her, and pushed a sandwich towards her. Without a thank you, without a word... He was never good with thanking and apologizing to people... It always seemed like a custom, not something he truly meant. If he was thankful, his actions would show it, and he was trying his best to communicate his thanks by giving her one of his sandwiches.

Her grasp on his arms were soft and careful to not press him and accidentally hurt him more than he had hurt already. Once he was up on his feet (and so was she), the hands let their grasp loose gradually until the girl made sure he was able to stand on his own. That moment, then, she let go of him and smiled gently, not saying anything. To her, it was enough to see he was okay. So...

"...", Brittany giggled in response as her fingers touched his, grabbing the sandwich he offered but without letting go of the hand touch immediately. A happy, cheerful giggle that lifted her cheekbones and made her freckles look even more abundant than they were. He didn't have to say a word, she knew he was trying to be thankful in his own way. "Thank you... What's your name?" And then, finally, the young girl let go of his hands, bringing the sandwich to her chest. He may not know but it was the first gift she ever received in her lifetime.

It felt victorious, when he felt her fingers take ahold of the sandwich. But only for a moment, as in the next one, he immediately realized the sandwich wasn't the only object they'd grabbed... I-it must've just been an accidental touch, right? He froze. She wasn't letting go. W-why? What was the meaning of this? She had to have already taken a firm grasp of the sandwich... So why wasn't she letting go?

And not even that, but she spoke. She wanted to know his name... The question had taken Frog's whole attention, so he hadn't even noticed, or rather, hadn't registered the fact that she let go of his hand. It remained up, as if she was still holding it, as he turned to face her... "I-I'm Frogerio... But you can just call me Frog... Everybody does that." He said and finally noticed his hand was free. Blushing gently, he pulled it back to his chest, almost confused at how empty his grasp felt all of a sudden. But the warmth was stil there... In any case... "What's yours?" He asked back, if only customary... It didn't really matter much. He'd probably be unable to connect her face to the name if they ever met again anyways... But as he raised his head, he also noticed how she was holding the sandwich right then... Like something precious. That victorious feeling in his just grew from there on out.
