Mitsuko Nakahara
"Don't worry, I'll save everyone!"
The Biography
Birth Name: Mitsuko Nakahara Aliases: Mitsu-senpai, Nakahara-chan Gender: Female Age: 18 Birth Day: January 29th Arcana: Star Place of Residence: Nokawai School Year: Third Class: 3-A - Aburai Mojii
After School Club: Anime Club, although she’s a traitorous little punk who plans on leaving when the school finally approves her Fairytale Heroes Club.
Part Time Job: Kurosawa’s Books, a small bookshop on the edge of the Moonlit Plaza in Nadashiki. It stocks the finest of supernatural texts and a variety of exceptionally rare books. Currently, only Mitsuko and the owner, Mr. Kurosawa, are the only people working there.
Appearance: For the most part, Mitsuko looks like the typical Japanese beauty; long, dark hair and equally dark almond shaped eyes. She styles her hair into a hime cut, but frequently suffers from split ends that spawn faster than she can have them fixed, giving her a bit more of a 'wild child' appearance. Her skin is slightly paler than what could be considered 'normal', but still has a peach-hue that makes her Japanese origins quite clear, although she wishes her skin was a little darker because, in her eyes, it 'looks more interesting'.
Whenever she can get away with it, Mitsuko likes to wear her completely ridiculous black cloak over her school uniform, partially because she loves how cool she thinks she looks, and partially because it adds dramatic effect every time she strikes a pose and declares her intent to place a curse on someone. Aside from the cloak and her trademark purple and black stockings, Mitsuko keeps her uniform in mint condition; her shoes are always polished and her shirt and skirt are always freshly ironed.
Outside of class, Mitsuko's wardrobe could be described as 'witchy'. She gravitates towards long, flowing skirts and shirts with oversized sleeves, meaning she tends to 'swish' everywhere she goes. Her outfits change daily and the only aspect that’s in every costume, regardless of weather, is a pair of dark purple and black striped stockings (which are always clean, as she has almost a dozen pairs).
Personality: Mitsuko is, whether you believe her or not, a self-confessed hero. Donning a black cloak and occasionally speaking in Latin, she’s regarded as the witch of Kizuna Academy; a title she’s extremely fond of. She stands for everything the typical magicl girl would; truth, justice and [s]the American way[s] friendship, and will go to ridiculous lengths to make sure that everyone under her watch is safe and happy.
She’s known for being the smiliest, most cheerful third year in school, and it’s more than just a rumor. Mitsuko is the type who always smiles, no matter how bad things may seem. Quite often, she’ll tell people to ‘smile’ and skip around the school in a pleased daze, laughing off anything and everything that happens to her.
And, being a hero, it’s obvious Mitsuko would have to be helpful, too. She’s obsessed with ‘cute, little’ first years and would happily chop off a limb just to see one of them smile, but also has a soft-spot for second years and even her fellow third year students. She’s usually the one you’ll go to when you need a hug or a magical girl-themed pep talk, and she’s more than happy to be that pillar of support. In battle, she doubles as both a support and offensive member of the group, trying to pick up any of the slack and take some of the pressure off her fellow Nyarlathotep children.
Deep down, Mitsuko knows she’s not a hero; she knows there’s no such thing as magic and her sister probably isn’t wandering around, happy and safe somewhere. However, it’s thanks to her borderline insane hope that she’s managed to keep herself from giving up on life for the last ten years. Without the deeply-ingrained belief that her sister, Miyabi Nakahara, is alive, Mitsuko would fall into the despair that’s been threatening to consume her since the disappearance.
Despite coming from a very wealthy family, Mitsuko had never really acted like her parent’s money and status makes her more important than anyone else. She’s happy to associate - and in Kurosawa’s case, work - for those who come from less influential families than her own, without feel the need to demean anyone in order to raise herself up.
On an odd note, Mitsuko doesn’t really understand what makes something ‘feminine’ or ‘masculine’. Of course, she knows the physical differences between boys and girls, but she’s yet to grasp why things are considered to be specific to one gender, for example, her dozen of magical girl dakimakuras. She’s been told time and time again that those pillows are for young men, not for high school girls, though Mitsuko doesn’t understand why a girl can’t hug a half-naked magical girl pillow every night.
Mitsuko is one of those ‘the ends justifies the means’ people. She could easily be called an anti-hero. She refuses to get rid of her Persona, despite being well aware that it’s lead her to harm and possibly kill at least one person - solely because Nyarlathotep implied that she would be able to find her sister with this power. She’s willing to sacrifice people she attempts to shrug off as ‘bad’ in order to save ‘pure’ people like Miyabi and her friends.
That doesn’t mean Mitsuko has no conscious. She’s always struck by pangs of guilt whenever she’s forced to hurt someone, but tries to tell herself that it isn’t her that wants to injure others, it all Smilax. Obviously, that’s a load of crap, but Mitsuko can’t handle her own desires, unless they’re completely and utterly pure and wholesome. She views any kind of negative trait in herself as something that must be expunged, not embraced. Picking up on this, her Persona is the one who will take over and allow Mitsuko’s true wants to shine through.
It’s quite clear Mitsuko has a lot of emotional issues she needs to work out. Unfortunately, there’s another one in that mix of turmoil and angst; it’s her wish to fool herself into believing that she’s not just out to save her sister, she’s out to save the world. To others, it’s pretty obvious her true motive is to find Miyabi, but Mitsuko would like to believe she’s actually focused on saving everyone on the planet - whether it’s by accidentally murdering a salaryman or by taking you to the nurse’s office - and not just the person she cares about most in the world.
The Potential
Strengths:
—Strength Name: Never Lose Hope! —Description: Mitsuko is all about positivity. She’s not the smiliest girl in school for no reason, after all. You can expect her to cheer everyone on during all out attacks, or pick you up when you’re too tired to continue fighting your way through a dungeon. Mitsuko’s a cheerleader without the short skirt and big boobs, and she’s going to do her best, whether you like it or not.
—Strength Name: Senpai’s Always Behind You! —Description: A hero should never abandon someone, right? Well, being the best hero around, don’t expect Mitsuko to ditch you, no matter what happens. Even if you begged her to leave, she wouldn’t; it goes against her code as a wannabe magical girl.
—Strength Name: A Hero Never Judges —Description: No matter what you’re gender, race, sexuality - Mitsuko isn’t the type to judge. She'll try to make friends with - or at least help - anyone and everyone, so long as you're not an openly 'evil' person.
—Strength Name: I’ll Put A Spell On You —Description: With a vast knowledge of the supernatural (both from folklore and miscellaneous anime) it’d be hard to find anyone more qualified to analyze you, your persona and shadows.
—Strength Name: Hiiiiya! Magical Kick! —Description: After her sister went missing, Mitsuko’s parents insisted she take up karate lessons to defend herself from anyone who might try to harm her. She’s kept up with her training, and while she’s no expert or black belt, she has a decent grip on most basic karate techniques. In terms of belt, she’s a qualified purple, but plans on going for her first red belt some time this year.
Weaknesses:
—Weakness Name: Thinking Hurts! —Description: Lets face it, Mitsuko isn’t too bright. She argues that heroes don’t need to be smart, so long as they can keep protecting people and doing what they must to keep dark forces from taking over the Earth. Obviously, her lack of intelligence does effect things, mainly her school work, and when she’s not barely scraping into the ‘pass’ section, she’s completely failing.
—Weakness Name: A Hero’s Responsibilities —Description: Mitsuko blames a lot of pressure on herself to always help people. Naturally, even when she does her best, things don’t always go right. Most people would shrug this off, but Mitsuko takes it to heart as a personal failing; like she’s the sole reason things went wrong.
—Weakness Name: Life Cast ‘Forget Beam’! —Description: Mitsuko has a terrible time remembering ‘unimportant things’ like birthdays, anniversaries and exam dates. This often causes awkward situations between her and her friends, as it can seem like Mitsuko doesn’t care enough to remember, when she does care, she’s just not good at recalling information.
—Weakness Name: Senpai Will Save You! —Description: It’s a hero’s job to put themselves in danger to save others. Or at least that’s what Mitsuko’s come to accept after much consideration. She’ll often throw herself in harms way without really thinking about the consequences, in hopes of being able to help someone.
—Weakness Name: Put on A Happy Face —Description: Being unable to express her true feelings of guilt about her sister’s disappearance, Mitsuko always comes off as impossibly cheerful. No matter what else happens, and no matter how much it hurts her, she’ll always pretend to bounce back with a wide grin and a laugh. Obviously this means she’s kept an awful lot bottled up, and with nowhere she feels she can let herself be honest, she’s close to breaking point.
Soul Bound Weapon:
Weapon Name: Witch’s Broom Weapon Description: An old fashioned broomstick with a grinning pumpkin painted-metal keyring sprouting from the tip of the handle. It might just be Mitsuko’s imagination, but it often sounds like the pumpkin is cackling whenever she summons her weapon. Weapon Image:

The Background
History: When Mitsuko’s older sister vanished, she blamed herself for being unable to find her, and took responsibility for her family falling apart in the aftermath. She still holds on to this guilt, and believes that she should have been able to find her sister years ago, despite being so young when it happened.
The family never recovered from the disappearance of their oldest daughter. Shortly after the incident, Mitsuko’s parents begun distancing themselves from the home, spending more and more time at work to keep their minds off their missing daughter. Unlike most, Mitsuko didn’t grow up isolated, despite her absent parents; at a surprisingly young age she was given keys to the house and allowed to wander in and out as she pleased. This gave Mitsuko every opportunity to go out and experience the world, spending much of her time with other children she found while wandering the streets.
She was 14, the same age as her sister was when she vanished, when she was first contacted by Nyarlathotep. Apparently amused by her despair and desperation to find Miyabi, he gave her a choice; find her sister with the power he gave her, or wander in search of her for the rest of her life. Naturally, already pushed to the edge, Mitsuko agreed to become an agent of chaos and was given the persona Smilax, the dark nymph.
For a year, she was left alone and allowed to live a normal life with renewed hope for finding her missing sibling allowing her to smile, once more. She made friends, got good grades; the year was simple and fun, with absolutely no mention of the mysterious being that had contacted her a little after her 14th birthday.
Exactly one year later, after her 15th birthday, she experienced her first ‘tainted soul’ transformation. She’d discovered a clue in her sister’s case; a salaryman who was believed to have been the last person to ever see Miyabi. After chasing him down in order to seek answers, she was promptly ordered to go home. Refusing, she pushed harder for more leads as to where her sister was, only to have the man threaten to call the police if she didn’t leave. Distressed and bordering on hysterical, Smilax forcibly merged with Mitsuko in order to live out her host’s true desires.
Although Mitsuko remembers nothing of that night, she later heard on the news that the salaryman she had chased down had vanished and the police had absolutely no idea as to what had occurred. Although Mitsuko was terrified, a small part of her was pleased; that man had something to do with her sister disappearance, after all, she probably did the world a favor by making him vanish. However, she refused to never let herself become so distressed ever again, and made a vow to seal her Persona away and live a normal life.
And that’s exactly what she did. Up until now, Mitusko has lived as a normal girl, ignoring the quiet voice of Nyarlathotep in the back of her mind and doing her best to make every day as happy as she can.
