Subject: In Search of Salvation - Plot Teaser (Revised) Sat May 01, 2021 3:18 pm
March 17th, 2054, Parisian Desolation, France.
"My father used to tell me stories about what the world was like back before the Collapse. Stories of our trip to the moon, and the very first steps taken on Mars. How we were dead set on colonizing the moon, and from there, the stars. He used to be a scientist working for the Halcyon Collective back in his youth, long before I was born. Now I stand here, looking over a destroyed Paris. My dad... he used to show me pictures of what this place was like. People used to walk around freely on the streets, Children laughing... Now all I see is the dead husk of a forgotten age.
The United States was first to fall, according to my father. I was still too young to remember any of it... Once the French Government heard tale of America's collapse, our president ordered everyone to seek shelter within the various vaults built by the Halcyon Collective. These Vaults served as a precautionary measure in case of a Nuclear Holocaust, although at the time, people thought they'd be unnecessary. And they were proven wrong. It didn't take long for the disaster to reach European Soil, and France was the first to get hit with the invasion. We stood powerless before the Demons and Shadows, and France fell within a few days.
We've been stuck in here since, within the sprawling confines of the Vaults, and for as long as I can personally remember, this is all I've known..."
A Tale of Struggle, Strife and Woe
In Search of Salvation is a Post-Apocalyptic story covering the lives of the survivors of Vault Olympia after the Fall of France. Join Sonia and Hugo in their efforts to liberate Paris from a long-going demon occupation, and set humanity back on its feet. Unite the people and strike back against the oppressors, and start the revolution. Take France back.
A Rough World Out There
The world above is a treacherous place. Ever since the Demon Invasion, the surface has never been quite the same, and it is as much your enemy as the shadows and demons are. The whole In-Roleplay world of the Parisian Desolace is split into 6 separate Dead Zones, which you, as a group, can freely wander between, either as Social Spaces or as Dungeons. Each Dead Zone has a main questline to pursue in order to see it liberated.
These can be done in any order, and after a main scenario questline is completed, you liberate the area and progress the narriative, changing the world. The next Main Scenario Quest you embark on will increase in difficulty as a direct result of your actions. In addition, as you progress through the story, new sidequests will pop up as time moves on, but these will be few, and far between. Each Zone also has its own main vault, and its own cast of characters to interact with, but please, don't feel limited to host your threads inside these vaults. While the surface world isn't wholly safe, there's still plenty of room to have interactive threads there, should you choose to.
Since the Fall, Paris's climate has been in complete turmoil, and as dungeons, each Dead Zone has it's own features, qualities and hazards. Brave the harsh tundras of the Napolean Highrise, explore the beautiful vistas of the Fields of Glass, or perhaps you fancy the boiling ovens of the Eclipse. Each Dead Zone has its own selection of Demons and Shadows, and its up to you to free Paris, and revert the damage done by the Fall.
The Eclipse
The Eclipse is what remains of Eastern Paris. The once serene, school districts have now transformed into a fiery hellscape since the Demonic Invasion. Crawling with demons, and shadows alike, The Eclipse is ruled by the Cruel hand of the Demifiend Oryx.
Parisian Cradle
What remains of Central Paris has been turned into a rather lush, fungal jungle. The air is polluted with a dangerous spore which shuts down the nervous system if you breathe it in for too long. Gas masks are recommended. Ulthar, a powerful Shadow rests deep within these jungles, and fiercely protects his territory.
Fields of Glass
The Beautiful vistas of nothern Paris has been forever preserved in thick sheets of glass and crystal, by none other than the Demifiend Bast. The most intact piece of the long lost city, its easy to lose oneself in this districts beauty.
Napolean Highrise
The Southern Cityscape of Paris have been completely frozen over, temperatures staying at a steady -20°C. The highrise buildings tower above everything else, making them visible from most of the Parisian Desolace. Mythra, another powerful Demon Commander marks this place as her territory, and her ice-cold gaze watches over the borders.
The Bellows
The Dark Peat bogs of the Bellows is constantly covered by a thick sheet of fog, making visibility extremely limited. The riverbank is completely broken, submerging the streets with dark, murky water. Abholos feels completely at home here, and welcomesn both shadows and humans alike into her dark embrace. In exchange for protection, you serve her will.
Dryrange Vistas
The Dry Desert Landscape of Western Paris is about as unhospitable as you can imagine. The heat is unrelenting, with the constant sunlight biting away at your skin. Bring plenty of Water, and stick to the shadows if you don't wish to be cooked to a crisp. Cuthuga, the Burning Shadow, loves his arid homeland, and enjoys the warmth the Countess has brought to his slice of Paris.
You're also free to take your friends out and explore a Dead Zone, to either level, or to progress your main scenario quest.
We're also introducing a few mechanic changes to combat.
Wield the Dark
With the world in ruins, people outside the vaults have found ways to survive. By siphoning the energies of dead demons and shadows, you can wield their might. With this, we're introducing a new Skill Type: Umbral Skills. Much like Soul Skills, Umbral Skills are abilities you can use independently of your Persona/Shadow Weapon/True Form, but the powers don't come from within, and thus aren't as customizable as your Soul Skills are. They are however easier to earn, and are upgraded as your character grows more experienced with this new power's use.
Each character has a maximum of 4 Open Umbral Skill Slots, in which they may slot Umbral Skills they have previously unlocked. Unlike the skill slots tied to your persona, the Umbral Skill Slots have no Tier Restriction. To prevent a freshly awoken player to use the most potent Umbral skills, you'll have to spend Experience Points (Yes, the stuff you use to Level yourself up) to unlock these skills. Once you've unlocked a skill, you may slot it into any 1 of your 4 Umbral Skill Slots. Another thing that separates Umbral Skills from normal skills is that they naturally level up through their use. The more you use a skill, the better your character becomes at casting it. Upon Ranking up an Umbral Skill, you may either choose to up its tier (And cost) or lower it's casting cost (Without sacrificing tier). Each type of skill has its own way to level up. Damaging, Healing and Buffing skills (like the Kaja and Kunda spells) all demand uses, while Passive Umbral skills have more unique demands to evolve their potency further.
Much like the Powers of a Persona, Umbral Skills work fundamentally the same, though the costs and effects might be very different to their Persona Counterparts. As stated earlier, these skills do evolve as your character uses them. Here are a few examples:
Blood Boost | Increases an ally's PpStr Or Dex (Chosen at pickup) by 20% for 3 Turns. | 10% HP | Umbral Skill | Tier 1 (0/20 Uses to Level Up to Tier 2 Or Lower its cost to 6% HP) Smoldering Touch | 10% Chance to inflict a burn with a physical attack (Slash, Strike or Pierce. Chosen as you pick this skill up). | Passive | Tier 1 (0/10 Burning enemies killed to Level up to Tier 2) Anvil Strike | Deals a small amount of Strike damage to a single target with a 10% chance to cause Panic. | 6 SP | Tier 1 (0/20 Uses to Level Up to Tier 2, or Lower the Cost to 3 SP.) Raging Storm | Deals a large amount of Water (Mutated Ice) Damage to all enemies | 34% HP | Tier 3 (0/50 Uses to level up to Tier 4 or lower cost to 24% HP)
Introducing Speed, and Organizing Turn Order
I am making a few adjustments to the way we're handling combat this time around as well. Each character and enemy will now have a Dedicated ”Speed” Stat (Spd) in addition to your Dexterity and Luck. Speed does pretty much what you'd guess. It determines Turn Order (And in PvP, it determines the speed at which your character can move from Point A to Point B. Luck has been transformed into a "Reaction" Time metric). The character with the Highest Speed Stat gets to go first and then you proceed in a descending order from highest speed to lowest, unless its the first turn of a First Strike, in which case the character with the Highest Speed Stat of the Ambushing party gets to act first, and the rest of their team act in accordance to their speed. After that inital advantage turn ends, turn order proceeds as normal. The goal is to make combat a bit more involved, and make you have to think a bit more about what you need to do on your turn, since you're not always going to have all 4 party members act one after another, and you can surely use this to your advantage. Getting Knocked out, and being revived always puts you last in the rotation going forward for that battle. To compensate for this, and preventing enemies from ganging up on one ally who just got back up, Revived party members cannot be targeted for attacks until they've at least got to act once.
So right now, your Starting Stats goes as follows:
With this change, naturally there are new skills that also affect a character's speed statistic.
Harakaja | Increases the Speed of a friendly target by 50% for 3 Turns. | 6 SP | Tier 2 Harunda | Lowers the Speed of an enemy target by 50% for 3 Turns | 6 SP | Tier 2 Fleet of Foot | Passively Increases your Speed by 20% | Passive | Tier 2
Wild Cards, Demon Summoners and The Enslaved
Okay, so this bit is two-fold. First and foremost, the Demon Summoner Class is making a triumphant return in The Parisian Desolace, but for it to join us, another Class has to go. In favor of keeping the spotlight on everyone, and not just a few individuals, I have decided to remove the PWC and NWC Classes from ”In Search of Salvation”, as they directly contradict the very idea of the collaborative storytelling that I want to highlight in this. Like in Previous Plots, the Demon Summoner Class won't be available from the getgo, and needs a specific story event to act as a catalyst for its unlocking. If you choose to make a Demon Summoner at the point it becomes available, you'll start out at the same level your first character is currently at, just so you don't have to redo all that grind and play catchup (Doesn't seem very fun nor fair to shut you out of story development just because you wanted a Demon Summoner in addition to your main character). Please do keep yourself limited to playing a maximum of two characters at a time, as more than that is both taxing on me, and yourself. I want this to be fun for as many people as possible.
The Enslaved, while not a class, is a group of people on the surface who are, as the name suggests, enslaved by the Demons, and do their bidding. Whatever that entails, you'll have to find out for yourself. As such, you're free to either start your journey out as an Enslaved, or a Dweller from Vault Olympia. Either way, the choice is yours.
Main Cast
Sonia LeBeau
- Chariot -
Sonia LeBeau is the coined leader of the survivors from Vault Olympia. A reluctant, but ultimately strong leader, Sonia is determined to free France from the Demonic Occupation, and lead her people into a new age of prosperity. Her journey is a long and tough one, but with her Persona, Titan, and guided by visions of a White Tree, Sonia is ready and willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of her people.
Hugo LeBeau
- Hanged Man -
Hugo is Sonia's younger brother, and the two have been sticking together through thick and thin. Since their father went missing outside the Vault, he's been looking to Sonia for guidance, and is reasonably lost in all this. He'd rather stay within the safety of the vault, but he cannot say no to the only family he has left.
Abzu
- Fool -
One of the few surviving Anti-Shadow Suppression Weapons on the outside, Abzu's Plume of Dusk fractured after the fall, dooming her to live a life forever without a Persona. She's advocating for the use of Umbral Energy to survive, even though this new source of power is incredibly corruptive and dangerous. Abzu firmly believes that it is just another tool to be used, much like that of a Persona, True Self or Shadow Weapon, and insists on its qualities to do good, in the right hands. Abzu acts as your mentor in the use of these Umbral Skills, and it's from her you'll pick up new abilites to slot in.
Zacharie Gagnon
- Jester -
Ever the lone wolf, Zacharie is one of the enslaved survivors on the surface, kept under the watchful eye of Demifiend Oryx. He's currently being used as a weapon against what remains of Mankind, armed with a sharp blade, ready to bring more slaves in from any stragglers leaving the hidden vaults. He does hold a strong grudge against Oryx for obvious reasons, and yearns for freedom, but for the sake of his own life, he stays obedient.
