| Gabby could hear the dissappointment in Maria’s voice. It was saddening, how much a child’s dissappointment could effect other people. Gabby would only smile in response as Alphonse spoke up, “He’s right. The snow will always come back next year. When that happens, you’ll get to make all new snowmen. And, Alphonse will probably get better and your and his snowman will be as good of friends as you are. Just think of it this way, spring let’s you get closer together and winter let’s you show the friendships you’ve made through that time.” She had to question what she was saying. She would never speak this way to Maria if she weren’t a child. But, it somehow didn’t bother her. In fact, she liked having such an innocent idea of time passing and friendship.
She took a moment to think about what Alphonse said, “I am happy, but…” She realized what she was about to say and forced herself to change the topic so she didn’t have to finish that statement. Thank goodness for Maria, “You’re right. They need a little magic. They use a hat in the movie, right?” Where would she get a tophat? She went to scratch her head, where she found the answer. She was always wearing a hat. Sure it wasn’t a tophat, but it may just have a little ‘magic’ in it. She took it off, revealing her own messy short hair. She could put it on her own snowman, but she wasn’t the one who needed the childish ideal of living snowmen, “I know it’s not a tophat, so the magic may not be as strong, but if you, Alphonse, and I wish hard enough maybe we can bring your snowman to life with this.” She would give Maria a smile, “I’m sure it will keep your snowman from melting in winter, because he’ll move to the Northpole, with Frosty and Santa. They’ll all be friends there, and he’ll come visit this place every year, just to see you making him some more friends.” She didn’t know if Maria would believe her or not. Children weren’t as gulible as adults liked to believe, but it was possible she honestly believed in magic and miracles. If Maria wanted to do it, she would audiably wish for Maria’s snowman to come to life and make a lot of friends, then place the hat on the creation. If not, she would just put it back on. If she choose a third option, which was always a possiblity considering a child’s imagination, she would just have to wonder what to do next. | |

Maria brightened up at what Gabby said, it seemed that it had a positive effect on the young girl. She offered Gabby a bright smile, while Sentinel would compliment what Gabby had said, "That was quite poetic of you Gabby. I am impressed by your quick-wit and creativity." Maria looked up at Sentinel, perhaps not quite understanding what he was saying, before quickly adding in with her own compliment. The girl seemed eager to please, and would happily follow Sentinel's lead.
"Yeah, it was really pwetty." The mispronunciation of 'pretty' was quite intentional, perhaps Gabby would give her more advice to get more candy from Sentinel. However, while Maria was thinking about candy Sentinel noticed that Gabby stopped what she was saying. However, Gabby used Maria's reference to Frosty to quickly change the topic. The young woman placed her hat on the snowman, claiming it had a little magic that would allow the snowman to go to the North Pole, and how he would become future friends for all the snowmen they made. This of course seemed illogical and quite impossible. However, he had a feeling that Gabby would need help in pulling this one off. Maria did not seem to buy it at first she raised an eyebrow at Gabby, and looked up to Sentinel for confirmation.
While the distance between the North Pole and Ueitawa was astronomically far, Sentinel decided to...."play along" as most humans say. Sentinel looked down at Maria and smiled, "Gabby would not lie to, Maria. Are you telling me that you don't believe in the power of a little magic? Do you not remember Peter Pan?" Maria would nod her head rapidly, and return the bright smile, "If you two say so then it is true, I'll wish really hard tonight before bed!" The mention of bed caused Sentinel to check his watch, it was almost 7 o'clock.
"Maria, we must be going, we still need to eat dinner, and then I will help you with your homework. It was a pleasure to meet you Gabby, but I am afraid we must leave. Say good bye to Gabby, Maria." Sentinel would say taking Maria's hand. The young girl looked at Gabby, and offered her a big smile, "It was nice meeting you Gabby!" she would say waving her new friend goodbye. The two would return home safe and sound, and Sentinel felt a slight stirring in his gears.
.....Was this what the humans call....fun?
