Rise of A Hero [Isaac's Awakening]

The gun went off with a loud bang, and much to Isaac's astonishment, it not only hit the enemy, but made it fall right out of the sky. A wicked grin slid across his face as he saw his opportunity. He slid the gun away and put both hands on the hilt of his blade. This was more like it. He looked to the other two in a sweeping glace. "What do you say we tear this thing apart?"

Charging forward, still empowered by Grigori's white Aura, he leaped up and brought his blade crashing down on the downed target, alongside his two comrades.

Once the demon was vanquished, clapping could be heard from the direction of the Prince. He had a pleased smile on his face. "Excellent. Remarkable marksmanship. Could use a little work on posture, but you'll have time to improve like all of us. Welcome to the Cadets, recruit. Unless you have any questions, you're all dismissed."

As Julius gave his congratulations, Maria on the side would be grasping for her habit before slipping it on and beginning to set her weapon away inside her coffin. She didn't give her congratulations, that was Julius' job. There was a lot eating her away inside, but the entire battle settled it. He seemed capable, no complaints on that so far. But would he be able to truly take on the burden...?

The battle now over, Isaac rolled his shoulders back and strapped the sword back to his back. Even on his back it felt lighter. Almost like it wasn't there at all. Maybe that was just the weight of his indecision he'd been burdened with all this time. Now that he'd taken the step, he really was a new person. But at the same time, he was the only person he'd ever been. Taking a deep breath in, and breathing out, he looked back to Albrecht, who'd helped him when he didn't even know him. Had it been an order? a request from someone else? Regardless, he was grateful. Isaac clapsed the armored man on the shoulder. "Thanks for your help. Albrecht right? I've heard about you, though we've never met. We should spar some time. Us swordsmen have to help each other hone our skills right?" Isaac beamed, before looking toward Maria. She was packing up her weapon currently into it's coffin.

With another nod to Albrecht, he turned and walked over to her. "Maria...Thank you for helping. I wasn't expecting you to be here. You were amazing. So that's the power of a top-rank Cadet, huh?" He smiled that still friendly smile at her.

Albrecht sheathed his blade, staring at the dying demon with intense hate. Another one of their kind falls, and so easily, barely worth his effort. He barely got to see and judge Isaac's abilities too but so far he seemed good enough. He felt a touch on his shoulder and instinctively snarled in anger and trying to get away before looking over. It was the newcomer, he'd overlook it this time.

"I'd be willing to train with you. You seem pretty good yourself, so a duel can be fun." The man spoke in a serious tone. "Farewell Isaac, Maria, Julius." And with that the knight left.

Maria gave a nod as Albrecht gave his farewells and with Julius also began to leave. She was curious as to why her battle brother came tonight, but it was well-appreciated all the same. Just as she was finished on her preparations for departure, the Cadet found herself distracted by Isaac thanking her and remarking of her abilities. Even as positive he was, Maria regarded him coolly. "It's only fair I help the Prince on inducting new recruits on nights such as these. I'm hardly of top-rank. There are others stronger than I. I'm sure you'll get there in no time... Are you alright? Was that battle taxing for you?"

Isaac smiled in response to Maria's cool tone. Some people just didn't get excited like he did. And well...She still probably didn't want him to join - was maybe a little upset with him for it? They didn't really know each other well enough for it to be that much of a disappointment though, right? Anyway... "I'm terrific. Seeing a demon up close like that...being able to really see it. It was exciting, and exhilarating. To be honest, I sort of wish it had taken a little longer. We made quick work of it, that's for sure." He joked conversationally. "What about you? how are you? Doesn't look like you even broke a sweat."

He was fine, terrific as he claimed. Well, that was good to hear... not really. Perhaps they really shouldn't have made the test this easy or were people getting stronger nowadays? Maria wasn't sure. But, Isaac needed to know how difficult it was to fight these things. How dangerous it could get. Exciting and exhilarating it may have been for her at first, she knew there was room for her own improvement. Isaac for sure, but it put a bad taste in her mouth when the new recruit hasn't quite realized the gravity of their role as a Cadet. But she couldn't blame him for something he didn't know...


She remained calm as usual, though Maria was feeling cross as the conversation continued. The Cadet shouldered her coffin against her back. It was prime time to go now that the rest of her co-workers resigned for the night. Just before she began to leave, Maria gave a few words and what appeared to be a business card with a title and an address on it. "If you wish to ask any questions, you can find me in the Class Zero Building. Or in the Sunlake Palms Church. I will see you next time, recruit."

She gave one respectful bow of her head in his direction, marking the end of their conversation as the Cadet left the room to Isaac.

Maria's words struck home with Isaac as he watched her leave, holding the business card in his hand. His smile stayed on his face, falling only just a little before she left. As he stood there in the now so much more oppressive darkness, looking at the business card in his hand he thought about those words "you have to."

"Yeah, I know that. I do." He slid the card back into his back pocket.

"You like her, don't you? I can tell. You're being so melancholy. It must be love."

"What? I met her like...yesterday or something? Clearly love works differently for swords." Isaac looked over his shoulder with a raised eyebrow. He started to walk out of the room, hands folded behind his head, stretching. "So, it sounds like there's more of you in there? What do I call you?"

He was halfway out of the empty building before he discovered he didn't actually have to talk out loud to talk to the sword, and half way back to his dorm before they finally shut up for the night.
