| It was an average afternoon. It was a soothing one too. Finally he was alone on his own and away from the mentally challenged and the vapid bitches. Joseph strolled down the streets while bobbing his head left and right. His ears filled with neat relaxing tunes. It almost made it tempting to forget all the stupid bullshit in his life. He still remembered his dumb uptight family forced him to volunteer to buy the daily groceries. But they didn't say when he should be back, so fuck that. Vista Square was a neat place, a place full of technology and the media that piggyback-rides off of it. Of course, an eventual stop was to hit up that Cipher Cafe to waste away his afternoon wearing his callused thumbs away. But first, something begged his attention at a shop window. "Fuck me. Two-hundred for those? Jesus-rat-biting-bitch-Christ." It was showcasing a pair of fancy earphones, the ones better than the ones nestling on his ears. That shit was pricey as hell. But it was a 40% off deal. Joseph could already feel his wallet beginning to shake and slip at a mere contemplation of it. He continued to ogle at the prized piece of merchandise as he didn't pay much to his surroundings. How much would he have to save with a Cadet's pay anyway? | |

| "Hm, that should be enough...", she said, checking again the bags, starting by the ones she had on her left hand. A lot of vegetables, like, A LOT. Some sugar, some coffee too even though she dislikes the latter pretty much, butter, milk, eggs... just the regular stuff for a healthy and simple breakfast before her kitchen pantry becomes completely empty. In the other set of bags carried by her right hand, cleaning products like disinfectants, new towels, new doormats, a new toothbrush, new toothpaste as well... It was kinda funny how so little to buy could also be so expensive (and heavy!) at the same time. But maybe that's what you get when you keep procrastinating the shopping until the last minute. At this point, she should know better than to wait for the complete run out of every single indispensable good.
Or maybe she should start training Bernie to follow her into the market/grocery stores and carry some bags for her. That is, if the sharp talons don't destroy the plastic material, of course. Giving it a second thought, Bernie was kind of a rebel daughter, hardly the owl would do as Brittany wished. Well, the girl would have enough time to think about it, considering her pace was quite slow and mellow giving the effort to keep the bags in line all over her tiny arms. No amount of cheerleading exercise would ever make Brittany as strong, it seems, which was fine. She wasn't that bothered by the weight, and besides, she could always use the time to take a walk, breath some fresh air (as far as fresh goes in an urban city) and admire the landscape full of...grey buildings and modernity... Alright, possibly there wasn't much to see in first place but Brittany was positive she could make it enjoyable just like pretty much anything else!
And speaking of enjoyable, her eyes have just spotted a known figure. It wasn't hard to identify who he was, that haircut was memorable enough to not fool her into someone else. He looked concentrated in a showcase window, which could only mean one thing: time for her to sneak behind him and surprise him! And so she did, ready to pull the best kind of prank ever...until coming close enough to have a glimpse of what caught his attention so deeply. Then, she understood it all. No wonders; a huge discount of a huge price. Math wasn't her forte but even she could come to an obvious conclusion:
"Woooow, 40% off... Impressive how even with such a discount, it's still expensive as hell!" | |

| "Of course it is, idiot. It ain't too much of a bad deal. The brand's pretty good too. Fuck, should I get it...?" Joseph agreed with his eyes still glued on the prize. What kind of idiot would be able to shell out two hundred bucks on the fly? The Cadet knew well only rich as hell dumb kids could do it. He envied their material wealth and how lucky they were to be born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Now that he was a Cadet, Joseph's family was pretty much set for life. All he needed to do was wait for that next paycheck. It begged the question if he should spend it now or save it up for higher education. He froze for a moment in a split-second contemplation. That voice sounded stupidly familiar. It was familiar in the same way you'd recognize a vapid floozy you know who would take boys in the back. When his eyes locked with Brittany's through the glass, it worked like charm. "MOTHERFUCKER!" Joseph bolted straight up in the air before slamming his back against the window glass. He almost looked like he was shocked by a sudden appearance of a cockroach underneath him. Why God? Why was she here? Couldn't he spend a single day without having to be bothered by plebeians like her? But he quickly slumped back to his feet with back straight and away from the glass. With such a sudden thud, he could already feel the attention of a few bemused patrons inside the shop. "H-hey! Yo! Wazzup? Didn't think I'd meet you here today." Fuck this pink bubble-gum bitch. Why the fuck was she here? | |

| “Idiot”? Brittany frowned at the name calling, with mild surprise. Usually she’d protest, with her recurring good humor, but this time she was just surprised at the mood displayed by Joseph. He had always been so polite and gentle, the girl certainly didn’t expect a harsh response from him. Nor did she expect such bad words coming from his mouth in the timespan of a few seconds… or maybe ever, but that was kind of hilarious on its own. Judging by his absurd reaction, she caught him off guard, huh? Amazing, her little prank worked then! “Wow, I’ve never seen you curse like that. Did I scare you that much? Please tell me I did!”, straightening her position, she giggled mischievously. “Well, this is where I live, you know. My apartment is, like, just a few blocks from here! What about you?” | |
