Weeping Riverway (Work Thread 2, Day 7 Night) Tumblr_obhulhi6621uc9x1zo1_500

I wanna cry and forget it all, but I can't anymore so the river will cry for me. It's genius, I know!

It was dark, because why the fuck wouldn't it be? It was another night for Ricky Gervais, as usual being depressed and generally uninterested towards everything and everyone around him. The only difference was today he was starting to find some inkling of purpose in life, some form of interest that would actually benefit him. Something that maybe, just maybe would make him feel like he was more than a depressed guy who failed to kill himself. The cold air of the night brushed against the smooth lining of his jacket as Ricky walked, everything about Ricky's outfit screamed that he was some fancy college student, maybe someone who was at the top of his class and going to go off to do great things with his life right? Sadly whoever thought that was wrong and oh so horribly wrong. His life had collapsed, forgoing any sense of caring about prestige or education or even living anymore. Everyone he had previously known was dead and the old Ricky Gervais died with them.

The young well dressed man had come to the Riverway with his usual fishing gear in an attempt to make more cash, being productive to society had the benefit of actually obtaining some cash for once in his life without relying on disability funds to do so. Was this a step in the right direction? Motivation to perhaps actually grow as a person out of his shell? This entire situation reminded Ricky of all the books he had read growing up, of how the heroes always suffer some kind of failure, fall into some kind of funk or lose someone important to them. Where normal people would have fallen or given up, they find a magical resolve to keep going, using all of that to beat the big bad guy. He wished like crazy something like that had happened to him but sadly Reality is cruel, nothing was going to bail him out of this hell of a life.

As these thoughts swirled and boiled within the forgotten's mind, he cast out his line into the riverway from the fishing rod he had brought with him. Hoping to catch some semblance of some fish to sell, yet the forgotten was unable to shake off all these negative thoughts. It was like a diabolical plague cast upon his mind, eating away at him day and night, preventing the man from preforming anything of any merit. Why bother living, why bother trying whatsoever, why bother doing what your doing right now?

The very thoughts threatened to disrupt any sliver of concentration the boy had right now, causing him to miss a fish which had begun to tug on his line. Staring off into the night sky for a minute had taken his attention off the line until the tug snapped the forgotten back in. Ugh...Another missed catch didn't lead to the best feeling in the world, it was easy to be reminded of several failure like feelings, to just want to give up and never do anything again.

At the same time...It was that feeling of wanting to be fufilled, of not wanting to just sit around all day feeling terrible, of wanting to try stepping out of his boundaries for once in his life that had led to today's events. The line was cast out once again, hoping to catch some fish this time. Simultaneously the thoughts began to surge inside the forgottens mind once more, almost as if driven by the very energy which caused the forgotten to attempt to do anything of actual value. It was such a parasitic relationship, like a plague that fed off your entire body in order to just exist.  A part of Ricky just wanted to snap the rod in half and break it, to be over with all of this and just go home. Although the other part of him wanted to at-least keep going with this for now, it wasn't like fishing actually killed someone right? There was no news of any fish demons in the riverway whatsoever, but it was better if you did not take that chance in the world we were in.

Suddenly there was a tug on the line once more, Ricky had actually attempted to pay attention to the line this time despite the interference he was feeling from his own twisted and negative thoughts. Acting quickly, the forgotten would pull as hard as he could and reel on the line in order to capture the fish that was tugging at it right now. Trying was better than not trying at this point in time, although Ricky may have tried a little too hard with this one. As he would use his body weight to pull himself back and to guarantee the fish would get back into the river so easily. Causing him to land on his ass directly on the dirt with the fish cascading into the air and falling down right beside him. Flopping on the ground next to him as Ricky began to gain his bearings once more. Oh man...I guess I did it a little too hard that time.A chuckle would escape from Ricky, having observed how ridiculous he must have looked at the time.

Then it was at that moment, something completely alien to Ricky had occured to him, laughing. Having actually laughed for the first time in a very long time was so unusual, so alien, and so bizarre that to experience it right now was something that the boy didn't see coming at all. The very force of it had unleashed something inside of himself, a strong force pulsating from the base of his spine. So undeniably powerful he just had to let it out of his system, that could only be interpreted as a loud HA!

Ricky would continue fishing, continuously casting out his line into the riverway in hopes of catching some form of fish. Sometimes Ricky would miss, and sometimes he would actually manage to catch a few fish here and there that night. Eventually the young man got tired, and hauling his catch of fish home he'd head over there in order to preserve them and sell them tommorow. Although he hadn't made that much money today, Ricky gained something even more valuable than money. The ability to actually smile for once in his life, even if it was for a few seconds.
