| Johnson Locke”Hell is just a place the human mind made up for something to fear. How do I know? I see it every night.”
The Biography
|
Birth Name: Johnson Locke Aliases: The Shell, Dead Man, The Haunted, John Gender: Male Age: 40 Birth Day: Classified Arcana: Hanged Man Place of Residence: Vista Square Evoker: Mental Shackles Academy Semester: Long out of it Class: (We'll fill this in once you're approved. This will be your class in school)
Sorority: Nope
Part/Full Time Job: Bouncer
Appearance: John is a very scarred man, he has various scars that commemorate his various years of service as a part of a mercenary group known as the Obsidian Angels. He stands at a height of 6’1, with short brown hair that tied into a small tail on the lower back of his head. If he lets it get too long then it will interfere with his already impaired vision. His blue eye is crystal clear, and there is a long scar running diagonally across the eye. His other eye is no longer there, he lost it during one of his first combat engagements, and instead he covers it with an eyepatch. The other notable wound is the piece of concrete stuck in his head, a wound he received during the eternal divide that the medics and doctors were too afraid to touch. He often wears casual clothing or his security guard get-up since that is his current job as a certain group keeps a careful eye on him. His casual clothing consists of long sleeved shirts of various colors, but he seems to favor camouflaged shirts and pants the most. It is not uncommon for him to be seen with at least a camo shirt or pants on, even if it doesn’t exactly match. He’s a solider, not some fashion designer for god’s sake, and it’s not like people will be staring at his clothing after seeing his face.
Furthermore, due to his combat training, Johnson is muscular and very in shape, he seems to maintain his training regimen with a daily workout and various exercises. It is not unusual to find him at a gym somewhere trying to maintain his fitness, not for the sake of pleasure, but because it is necessary if he wants to continue serving as a mercenary. When he is on break, he will often smell of cigars and prefers smoking areas over non-smoking areas.
Alternate Appearance:
John’s alternate appearance becomes quite menacing as he dons a cowl that is attached to a suit of leather combat armor. The suit’s shoulders have received extra padding, and there is extra reinforcement around the forearms, hands, and legs where the combat armor has received a ceramic plating reinforcement. While the reinforced parts seem to add unnecessary bulk, in comparison to the usual combat suit, this altered appearance is lighter than what John wore into combat scenarios in the past. The suit also has various kits where ammo clips, handheld explosives, or somewhat larger sized explosives can be stored, as well as its own kit for first-aid items.
However, the most necessary part is the full mask resembling a skull that covers his entire face, this is mostly to hide his identity from those who seek him out as it fully conceals his eyepatch and scars. Though he finds the mask an annoyance, but in this case it is a necessary annoyance.
Personality:
John finds himself in a world where your typical solider is not needed, this is a time where the supernatural threats cannot be fought with your typical fully automatic M16 rifle, or where you tactically breach a room with a flashbang and neutralize several hostiles. Rather, these weapons are useless or ineffective against these supernatural threats, placing him and many of his comrades in an odd position. The Obsidian Angels took heavy losses after the Eternal Divide, it was difficult to recuperate from their losses afterwards, and they are still doing their best with recruiting as a PMC. However, a transition is being made to ensure the survival of the group, they are now taking jobs as security officers, self-defense trainers, and various other civil protection jobs.
John finds himself in such a place due to his PTSD that he developed after the Eternal Divide occurred, and watching the butchering of his squad and comrades. Because of this he finds himself, a bit lost, he holds beliefs but finds himself ultimately conflicted in which way to go or what he himself should do. He feels lost and without purpose, but is capable of delivering insight to those younger than himself due to simply existing in the world longer than them. He is neither pro-government nor pro-terrorist for he does not agree with either side. A part of him seeks answers, and is trying to find out what a solider such as himself has to believe in, and now he seeks to learn what a person with his skills and talents can believe in. As a solider he has had to learn and adapt to the situation and this is just another one of those times that he has to learn how to adapt to the situation once more.
However, can one adapt without knowing his true self, and knowing what he desires?

The Potential
|
Strengths: (Anything your character is skilled in, such as Martial Arts/ Drawing/ etc? You are allowed a maximum of five strengths and a minimum of three.)
—Strength Name: To Hell and Back
—Description: “You kids are too young to know what real fear is, to feel that any moment could be your last. Me? I’ve looked death in the eye and bared my teeth.”
John has been through wars, seen friends die, killed other people, and seen the terrible destruction in his time. To say the very least, he is braver than most people, and isn’t as easily intimidated by challenges or life threatening situations. He starts out at level 2 bravery to represent his hardened experience.
—Strength Name: Special Forces Training
—Description: “I trained with some of the best and most lethal soldiers around, and I picked up a few tricks of the trade. Don’t let my age fool you, I can still break your neck without you even knowing I was there.”
John trained with some of the most lethal members of the Obsidian Angels due to his natural talent at military thinking and combat. This means he has a wide knowledge of survival training, stealth techniques, firearms, combat tactics, CQC maneuvers, adapting to the unknown, as well as being more conditioned and in better shape than most of his peers. He learned from some of the best his group had to offer, and he learned well.
—Strength Name: Serpent’s Speed
—Description: “To strike first is always better than to strike last, because if you strike first you are likely going to kill them before they kill you.”
John has learned that the idea of a preemptive strike is a good and efficient tactic to ensure that an enemy stays down, but striking twice before they can react is even better. Therefore, in combat he can strike twice with his sidearm and soul bound weapon. This benefit also extends to allowing him to reload faster than most individuals due to his combat experience. (Attack Speed Boost)
—Strength Name: Prepared
—Description: "War teaches one how to be ready for anything. Ever heard that no plan survives contact with the enemy? Yeah, that teaches you to be prepared when you're in the middle of an enemy complex."
If there is one thing Johnson has learned for his experience is to always have a back up plan. Due to his previous experience of having his plans and strategies go terribly awry he is constantly keeping an eye out for other escape routes or territory that can be used to ensure the safety of him and his comrades in arms. It always pays to be prepared for anything.
—Strength Name: On Task and On Track
—Description: “I might be a bit lost sometimes, but in all honesty we have a job here, let’s get it done.”
John has an incredible mind when it comes to staying on track and completing objectives. His focus is difficult to disrupt when he has an objective that he is set to complete. He can figure out the steps needed to complete that objective and it makes planning his next moves easier. He is not one who is in the mood for jokes when there is a job that needs doing. ----- ((A floating Strength is a strength you've gained inRP. For example, if you were on a Kendo team for some time, you'd naturally know Kendo which is where this strength would come in. However, be aware, it will not be as strong as any of your actual strengths and is a small plus)
—Floating Strength Name: —Description:
Weaknesses: (You must have the same amount of weaknesses as strengths. These weaknesses pertain to you and not your Persona. IE: Physically Weaker, lack of attention span, etc.)
—Weakness Name: PTSD (Medical Weakness)
—Description: “Clark? Where the hell is Clark? Darman!? MEDIC! We need help, someone…anybody! HELP US!”
After the Eternal Divide, Johnson managed to survive by the skin of his teeth, but it left him traumatized by the events. However, his survival was only possible by the intervention by a small group of scientist, who promised to save him only if they could conduct a test upon him that was in theory supposed to make him a better solider and harder to traumatize. In reality they gave him the persona suppressant medication, and now monitor their valuable test subject very carefully. The side effect of these pills is that they make the PTSD that Johnson suffers even worse than before. Rather than having night terrors or flashbacks, he has fully blown delusions that affect his combat abilities during an episode. When fighting Johnson has a 30% chance to have an episode, which limits his actions down to a few basic actions. as his most traumatic experience did not involve fighting humans. The actions he is limited to are as follows:
1. Guarding 2. Attacking a random target with his soulbound weapon. 3. Firing four shots from his sidearm into a random target (1st shot has a 20% chance to miss, second 40%, and every shot thereafter has a maximum chance to miss) or until the target is knocked unconscious. He will use the ammo previously used in the firearm, or basic ammo. 4. Using an offensive persona skill on a random target! 5. Running away Whether or not he has an episode is determined for the next post, and will be determined using RNG generator as will his targets. This is a reoccurring effect, every post he is in combat he will have to make this check.
—Weakness Name: Blind Spot
—Description: “Hold on, I can’t see you, let me just…Ah! There we go!”
In one of his first engagements with an enemy force, Johnson lost his right eye, and now wears an eyepatch over the useless eye. This has resulted in a blind spot on his right eye, and he has been forced to adapt and adjust to it over time. While he has adjusted to the fact that he is missing part of his field of vision, and will have a harder time reacting to threats on that side due to this blind spot.
—Weakness Name: Not A Technical Specialist
—Description: “You can ask me anything about military hardware that I used in the field, ask me how to turn on a computer or work a TV. Just don't ask me any questions about how on earth you make a virus or program that downloads itself into someone else's computer."
Johnson isn't very good when it comes to the more futuristic technology, he can use any of his military field equipment with ease, but when it comes to robots, hacking computers, it was not his specialty. It was Gunvir's specialty, Johnson was their CO that was on the field with them. Therefore, Johnson will have to repeat level 1 Intelligence before moving on to rank 2.
—Weakness Name: Complex Sign Language
—Description: John traces PT on his helmet as he reaches down and opens up a kit of first aid, only to look up and see people staring at him strangely.
In many tense combat situations John reverts back to a sign language that he and his comrades used to express things in a hurry, unfortunately this is not common knowledge to many other people. Therefore, people might not understand what John is trying to say when he reverts back to being with his fellow comrades in arms, or what his various commands and gestures mean at all.
—Weakness Name: The Bargain
—Description:"You need us, Mr. Locke, I assure you that your terrors will only get worse without us. You'll need us to survive, I assure you of that."
One of the most influential factors over John's life is this mysterious group that supplies him his medication and had saved his life after the eternal divide. They are a mysterious group that has their own agenda, and hasn't divulged any particular information about their allegiance to Johnson, but the sway and power they hold over his life makes it difficult at the very least for Johnson to resist them at this moment. Whether that changes in the near future is yet to be seen.
----- ((A floating weakness is one gained in RP. It could be a fear you inherited during RP, or an injury that hinders your character. Some can be temporary while others can be permanent.)
—Floating Weakness Name:
—Description:
Soul Bound Weapon: (This is the weapon you'll be able to summon to your hand while in combat. This weapon is special for your character specifically and allows you to fight Shadows and Demons without the need of summoning your Persona. This can be anything but a Gun (Or gun related weapon))
Weapon Name: Chop Chop Weapon Description: Chop Chop is a tactical combat tomahawk that sees use as a close combat weapon. The axe head will put a lot of pain on any target who happens to get way too close for comfort by cutting into and burying into the flesh. The spike on the opposite side of the head ensures that even the most armored foes cannot evade this axe's power. This weapon has a solid and easy to use grip that allows the user some reach, while maintaining a solid grip on the weapon. The weapon has a cutting edge of 4 inches and a a length of 16 inches. The spike itself is 3 inches long to provide maximum focused penetration power. Weapon Image: - Weapon image:

The Background
|
History:
Johnson was born into an average family, being the third and final son that the family had. This often meant that he would start rough-housing with his bigger and older siblings, which played a part in his attraction to more aggressive sports such as boxing, wrestling, football, and other high contact activities. While he was an average C's and B's student, his mind found the idea of strategy and combat more entertaining than the textbooks of chemistry and science. He applied himself in the physical arts and his fitness because of his interests in sports and those activities. When he was old enough to properly handle a gun he began practicing his skills in paintball, and air soft tournaments.
When he was old enough to enlist, he wanted to enlist with a mercenary group because he didn't want to sit around and wait. He wanted to see action he wanted to be involved and making a difference, fortunately he managed to make the cut into a mercenary group known as the Obsidian Angels. It was a close call, as there were several other candidates that were fighting for the same spot, but Johnson managed to get in by the skin of his teeth. Thus, he began his training with the mercenary group, and ever since then he has been striving to prove himself as a solider among their ranks. When he was deployed on his third engagement he lost his right eye, and many of his comrades counted him out. At that point he pushed himself harder and harder to keep up and surpass his comrades, and eventually was inducted into the special forces of the group when he was 25. There he received more advanced training and more dangerous missions along with three other comrades forming Omega Squad of the mercenary group. They performed countless missions together with a great number of successes with very few failures. Their last mission together was during the Eternal Divide.
The Obsidian Angels had a contract to secure and protect the government's project, and Omega Squad had only been off duty for an hour when the world around them went to hell. Demons suddenly appeared and chaos took over, the squad hastily gathered what equipment they could and called in for support. They received orders to evacuate and protect the civilians, and they sent their minds to that goal. They were forced to engage the demonic forces in order to save civilian lives, but they soon realized that they were ill-equipped to handle this threat. John watched as Clark was lifted and carried off by some winged creature, and then promptly dropped from the height of a building. Gunvir was torn to pieces by a demon, and as he held a wounded Darman crying out for help there was an explosion that embedded a piece of shrapnel into his head and sent him flying into a tree and bushes.
He doesn't know how he survived, perhaps because of how torn up he looked when he awoke in the care of a mysterious group, who saved his life and is now medicating him for his PTSD. Though now he lives in a world where your typical solider does not have a purpose and as someone whose entire life has been being a solider this is a bit of a shock. What can your typical solider do in this new world of supernatural warfare? How can he be expected to adjust to the world around him if everything has trained for has prepared him for the world of the past?
Johnson Locke is the man caught between two worlds, and now has to find his way through and rediscover himself. |

| A couple of things of note here. Your Courage Boosting Strength doesn't seem to have a Weakness Counterpart. Secondly, the ammo strength seems a little... game breaking in a way. Completely removes the need for an ammo shop for you. Should you want a strength like this, you'll need an equally big, related Weakness to it to balance it out. I'd also put in that you could only get 1 kind of ammo per Load, not multiple. Thirdly, you shouldn't start with a Floating Weakness. It's something you gain through RP, like say breaking an Arm or something that's temporarily (or in some cases permanently) hinders your character in a way.
Aside from that, I have no problems with him. He's very well written and I love the attention to detail. ☆ | |

| Bear in mind that things such as lock-picking fall under Understanding. So a strength would not make you a master at it. You could have a strength that lets you have an Understanding of 2, or perhaps get Understanding at double the rate, but a strength like that wouldn't help you since various locks will require various levels of the stat and your strength wouldn't cover all of them. That being said if you want a strength to start at rank 2 for a stat, the best weakness to go with that is a weakness where you have to go through rank 1 twice on another. If you want to grow double the rate, have another stat grow at half the rate. Mostly the strength that involves your knowledge of security needs to be a lot more specific and defined so it can be decided if it needs to be a boost in a quality or not. It's also very VERY unlikely you'd start off with full access if you wanted to work at the rehabilitation center unless Phile said you could. You'd probably have to get a job there and work your way up.
Also make sure if you have a strength that covers multiple things such as firearms training, combat expertise, you make a weakness that covers multiple things at once, otherwise it's not balanced. The Rogue weakness does try but I honestly think that as a Rogue that should happen to you more often. 20% seems rather low if it only affects him for a single point in the battle. | |

| Like I said before, unless you were told otherwise there is little chance you would start as a security guard. You could earn the job and get a floating strength for security but starting at the dungeon would not normally work. That's why I mentioned the idea of it being a boost to lock/understanding etc. You could take a strength in understanding and use it towards getting a job there so you should choose, considering this'll be the first time any of our characters see the place at night at the time of this post.
As for the rest, keep the Rogue weakness at least at 30% no matter who you're up against and be sure to include weaknesses that cover multiple things If you want strengths of multiple things. | |

| Okay 30% is now the new percentage for all combat scenarios.
I changed the strength to something less effective, but could be useful. I also changed my job to bouncer, cause there isn't much else for a mercenary to take. | |
