Subject: A Tsurinai's Will Thu May 05, 2016 10:29 pm
The phone rang loud in the wide open lobby, echoing through the darkened chamber even through the quiet speaker phone on its end. Even though it was as silent as it could be, the overwhelming quietness of the room made it seem as if a church's bell was ringing in its two occupant's ears. The mistress sat on a comfortable armchair with the phone to her ear, while her butler, now in much more suitable clothing, stood steadfast by her side. It had been ringing for too long, far too long.
-Kzzrt...-
Shiina's eyes widened as it seemed the call had finally gotten through, as a clear sound other than the ringing came from the phone again. The young Tsurinai waited with anticipation, and the few seconds started to feel more like minutes and weeks, until...
//"Ah, hello? Shiina, dear, is that you?"// A calm, female Japanese voice echoed lightly through the room, followed by a short silence. //"How have you been holding up, sweetheart? It's already night there, right? Make sure you don't stay up too late!"// The worry in Shiina's mother's tone was nearly palpable, as it made the heiress smile with an overdue calm. Ever since this afternoon, she'd been on edge, waiting for something to happen, but nothing came of it yet...
//"Ah, o-okaa-san, hello~"// It was a little bit obvious that Shiina was nervous, still. //"Yeah, don't worry about it, I'll go to bed really soon! But I wanted to talk to you first... Wakarimasu ka... you see... I think I found what we were looking for in this city."// The moment those words escaped Shiina's mouth, Joker placed a small tablet on the table in front of his mistress, which flickered to life with a figure of her mother.
~Hikari Tsurinai - 5 Years Ago~
//"Oho~? I knew you had it in you to be a great officer, Shiin-chan."// The silver-haired woman leaned forward towards her own tablet's camera and pretended to give her daughter a light pinch to her cheeks, something that looked very odd on the other end. Though, without any more silliness, Hikari sat on her chair and crossed one limb over the other, then cleared her throat. //"Alright, now, what did you find, exactly?"// She was still an officer, after all, even if not in the same department Shiina would be placed into...
//"Ah, that's... hard to explain. I met this neko person who spoke of their master. They said he was the King of Demons."// When Shiina finished this sentence, Hikari frowned slightly. It was natural to be skeptical. //"Ah, but, there's one more important thing... he completely vanished in front of me! No tricks, nothing to cover him, even, his body just disappeared into the air without trace! It was really surprising!"// This information, though, actually made the older woman's eyes widen as she nodded.
//"Hrm, I see... I understand, yes. Shiina, dear, hang on a moment, I need to get your father."// Without much of a hassle, Hikari got up and left the tablet's frame, leaving Shiina alone with Joker.
//"Aha! Did you see her face? We must have something on our hands!"//
The young butler sighed and shrugged unwittingly. He had observed the strange cat man's disappearance trick as well, but he couldn't help but be stoic. Jakob ran a hand through his dyed silver locks, then stepped away just a few feet to retrieve a tea set. The butler returned shortly after and poured Shiina a cup of her favorite tea, not to mention setting a small plate of sugar packets alongside it. Frankly, just the fact they had to use packets and not cubes disappointed the mistress, but she understood, in a way.
"Please try not to exhaust your mother too much, mistress." Jakob handed the cup over to Shiina after pouring and mixing in two packets. In response, the Tsurinai simply shook her head, though.
//"...my apologies for the wait. Shiina, are you there?"// With a man's voice echoing from the device, the two occupants turned towards him. What they found was a young-looking man with a lean build and tanned skin, who was adjusting his glasses as he spoke.
~Kentaro Tsurinai - 5 Years Ago~
//"Ah, otou-sama, you're not wearing your contacts today!"// The young girl giggled at seeing her father's appearance on the screen. It actually wasn't very common for him to wear glasses normally, as he'd been often seen with contact lenses to correct his eyesight. Albeit, that was normal, he was most often around other Tsurinai, he had to keep that tinge of superiority around himself. After all, marrying into the family from a middle-class home was unheard of... //"Though, I guess okaa-san already told you?"//
//"Indeed, and I completely understand. Shiina, in two weeks, I'll be personally coming to get you so you can initiate your training as a Tsurinai officer proper. This city should very much need protection from us, if what you saw is any indication..."// The man adjusted his glasses once more and stared down at the table where his own tablet sat. He didn't exactly want to make this decision, but, for the most part, this was the most logical option. If Shiina only got training, she might be able to discover more about what she had just started to learn about, after all...
//"Otou-sama..."//
The young Tsurinai's face turned to a frown quite quickly, but she didn't quite dare disobey her father's orders. Meekly, Shiina simply nodded and accepted Kentaro's terms. After all, it was customary for officers-to-be to complete their training at home.
//"I understand, otou-sama."// Or rather, that's what she would like to follow through. Just as she was about to open her mouth to discuss something else, the platinum-haired young woman heard a loud, gigantic explosion from the center of the R&D Area, and something that splashed away from it in masses. Kentaro's eyes widened considerably, and Shiina, thinking quickly, brought the tablet to a window, which Jakob hastily opened to look at the event...
//"...I'd like you to reconsider that, otou-sama."//
