Persona Background:

Elaine of Corbenic is a character in the Arthurian Legend, she's the wife of Lancelot and mother of Galavant. Elaine fell in love with Lancelot when she rescued her from a boiling bath the sorceress Morgan le Fay had magically trapped her. However, Lancelot is in love with queen Guinevere and he wont sleep with any other. In order to trick him, Elaine and her handmaiden offer him enough wine to get him drunk and she disguises herself as Guinevere, tricking Lancelot to follow her to bed.
When Lancelot awakes he realizes his mistake and threatens to kill Elaine but she reveals to him that her father had foretold that their union will result in the birth of the noblest knights (Galahad) and thus she's pregnant. Lancelot sheathes his sword and kisses her instead.
They meet again at a feat in king Arthur's court but Lancelot only has eyes of Guinevere. Elaine is advised by her handmaiden to wait and by the end of the night Lancelot will be at her embrace. Lancelot gets drunk and the handmaiden pretends the queen had summoned him leading him to Elaine's bedchamber. However, the actual Guinevere summons for him and gets furious when she doesn't found him in his bedchamber, she hears him talking loudly in his sleep and finds him with Elaine.
Furious with her lover's betrayal she banishes him from the land. Lancelot goes mad and jump out of the window naked and flees to the woods while Elaine confronts Guinevere for her cruelty.
The years pass and Elaine discovers Lancelot still insane at her garden, she brings him the holy grail and upon seeing Lancelot's madness gets cured. After that they spend 10 years living as husband and wife. Lancelot's obsession with Guinevere is not over and eventually he abandons Elaine for her. Elaine in her turn kills herself out of grief.
