Azami Aihara "It's become increasingly clear to me that the only way to win the game of life is to avoid participating in it from the start."
The Biography
Birth Name: Azami Aihara Aliases: shinaisamurai15 (Online Username) Gender: Female Age: 19 Birth Day: January 9th Arcana: Devil Place of Residence: An apartment in San Malarus. Academy Semester: Graduated. Currently attending university. Class: N/A
Club: N/A
Part/Full Time Job: Thanks to her reputation as a loyal customer during her time in Azores and her grandmother's connections to the owners of the place, Azami has already secured herself a part-time position as a waitress at a restaurant known as Monde Étape. She works evenings on weekends and will sometimes fill in for other employees. Sadly, business has significantly fallen and the once popular restaurant struggles to scrape by.
Appearance: Not much has changed about how Azami looks. She still possesses the same brown, relatively short hair that she sported before and still retains her slightly pale tone of skin. Her eyes, of course, remain grey and the star-esque birthmark on her forehead continues to be covered up by her bangs. She's 5'3 feet tall and weighs 119 pounds.
Her attire is really the only part of her look that's been altered that much. Azami's sky blue scarf has been replaced with a black one reserved solely for cases of cold weather. She can typically be seen wearing a red jacket with a blank, casual, black t-shirt underneath. During most seasons this is accompanied by a skirt of the same color as the t-shirt, but during winter she switches it out for a pair of red sweat pants. Lastly, she wears a pair of ordinary, white tennis shoes.
Of course, this is only her usual clothing. She wears more than one outfit and will dress in accordance with the occasion -- this one being merely a frequent style of hers.
Personality: Azami would appear to be perfectly fine to the untrained eye. She smiles, she laughs, she cries, she shouts, she broods, [and] she feels. A stranger would think nothing of her and those who know her, recalling her stoicism in the years prior, would think that she's changed for the better. However, this is not the real Azami. Their perceptions of her whisper lies and falsehoods to them -- her true self locked away from their prying eyes.
The girl maintains her figurative distance with others and the world around her. She engages with such things and persons when need be, but rarely does she seek out interactions with them. Often, in fact, will the reverse be true. Azami actively attempts to avoid forging bonds with others and instead isolates herself out of fear and habit. While she may unconsciously end up taking a liking to someone or end up with her metaphorical shell pierced, it'll almost never be by any whim of hers that this relationship begins. Believing that bonds only bring pain in the end, she seeks solitude whilst repressing her pain and loneliness: shoving it deep down inside her heart and putting on the facade of a stable human being.
A slave to her emotions, Azami is prone to acting on impulse and lashing out. While she can certainly be rational and think calmly about the situation at hand, strong feelings can very easily rip that ability away from her and she can be easy prey for stress within some circumstances. If Azami is enraged or saddened, she won't be able to easily gain a grip on those emotions and will typically be controlled by them until they pass. Her capability to reason and plan will be overcome by these strong feelings and she will be led to act brashly without any sort of forethought or concern for consequences.
Though she continues to label herself as a realist, Azami has become somewhat more pessimistic about life. She has a negative view of it and thinks of herself as powerless to change anything on a grand scale. Individuals are indeed the masters of their own fate in her eyes, but she also believes that they don't have nearly the level of control that would be desirable.
Knowledge is a thing she holds in high esteem. She seeks to learn more about all kinds of subjects and topics -- whether it be philosophy, history, mathematics, literature, or (her favorite) psychology. This is in part due to her curiosity; a powerful driving force in her nowadays.
Azami is very competitive. No matter how mundane what she's doing is, she strives for perfection in it and will ruthlessly pursue a victory over others. However, she sees no point in holding a grudge against those who have bested her. When she fails, she deems it a result of her own weakness, as opposed to the strength of those around her. She holds no hatred or malice for the other party in most circumstances and will simply accept her defeat for what it is.
In the end, Azami is a complex person in a complex world. Yet her wish is simple: to avoid bringing more pain to herself and those around her. This wish, however, is a tragic one. In her pursuit of it she only ends up hurting herself and giving others one less shoulder to lean on. Ironically enough, her fear of being hurt has ended in her hurting even more.
The Potential
Strengths:
—Strength Name: Logic —Description: Azami has retained her skill in logic. As an amateur practitioner of it, she can more easily piece together the information available to her in order to come to a conclusion about the situation or issue at hand. While she is by no means perfect at this and can end up making mistakes, she's at least somewhat better at it than the average individual.
—Strength Name: Reflexes —Description: Years of kendo have honed Azami's physical reflexes. She's thus quicker to respond to objects or attacks thrown her way. For example, if a box above her head fell down she would most likely be able to shift out of the way and avoid it before it came into impact with her.
—Strength Name: Cat-Lover —Description: Despite her preference for dogs, Azami gets along better with cats. They typically enjoy her company and she typically enjoys theirs. Nevertheless, they don't have some sort of unbreakable bond. How well they got along depends on the nature of the interaction and the cat's individual personality. Generally speaking though, Azami won't have any sort of significant problem with them.
—Strength Name: The Masquerade —Description: Though she was rather stoic before and during her time in Azores, Azami has switched out that old mask for a new one in an effort to make necessary social interactions with others easier and, overall, less awkward. She's become skilled at faking displays of emotion and deceiving those around her -- appearing to be a perfectly normal and healthy teenager whenever she so pleases. However fake her smile may be, those around her will rarely notice a thing off about it and assume it to be the genuine thing.
When under enough pressure or stress, this mask is sure to break. Azami has no trouble managing false emotions, but she has a hard time controlling her real ones.
—Strength Name: Bondless —Description: Azami takes 10% less damage from any character who has not established a social link with her.
----- ((A floating Strength is a strength you've gained inRP. For example, if you were on a Kendo team for some time, you'd naturally know Kendo which is where this strength would come in. However, be aware, it will not be as strong as any of your actual strengths and is a small plus)
—Floating Strength Name: —Description:
Weaknesses:
—Weakness Name: Trauma —Description: Though her method of concealing her pain has changed, the actual trauma itself has not. It remains with her and continues to have a firm grip on her behavioral patterns, perceptions of the world, and overall life. She's become emotionally unstable and desperately fears the idea of losing a loved one or being rejected by those close to her. Furthermore, Azami suffers from a crippling inferiority complex. She perceives herself as weak and incapable of protecting not just those dear to her, but she herself. This and her fears about losing others makes it difficult for her to form any sort of meaningful connection with those around her and, thereby, increases the amount of effort required by both parties to form and cultivate a social link.
—Weakness Name: Curiosity Moderately Inconvenienced the Cat —Description: Azami has developed a curiosity that, while by no means suicidal, can occasionally take precedence over caution and potentially lead to less than desirable circumstances. She's constantly searching for new information to distract her from the troubles and annoyances of daily life -- sometimes getting a bit too caught up in her thirst for knowledge.
—Weakness Name: Physical Strength —Description: Azami is substantially less strong physically than others when it comes to brute force, the ability to lift heavy objects, etc. While she can still do physical labor she wouldn't be of much assistance in lifting heavy boxes or knocking someone out in a fist fight when it comes down to it.
—Weakness Name: Vindictive —Description: Azami doesn't let go of a grudge easily. It probably won't result in some rage-induced crusade for vengeance, but don't expect to be easily forgiven if you get on her bad side.
—Weakness Name: Unstable —Description: The chance of a mental-ailment inflicting skill succeeding in inflicting said ailment on Azami is increased by 10%.
----- ((A floating weakness is one gained in RP. It could be a fear you inherited during RP, or an injury that hinders your character. Some can be temporary while others can be permanent.)

The Background
History:
Spoiler:
This is the story of a girl named Azami.
Azami Aihara didn't always have that blank face. A long time ago she used to smile. She used to frown. She used to cry and laugh and sing. She was born to a middle-class family within Japan and lived a carefree life as a child. Back then her worries were as simple as how good she'd do at kendo practice, what book to read next, and etcetera. Alas though, all good things must come to an end. This is a story of how Azami's carefree life crumbled down around her and she became chained down by the trauma festering within her to this day.
It all started around sixth grade. Azami had just finished up kendo practice and was heading home from school. When she arrived home she learnt from a note left on the door that her parents were out getting groceries since they were running short on food and ingredients. So Azami found the key hidden under the welcome mat, inserted it in, and went inside to begin working on her schoolwork.
It was after she had finished that she noticed a long time had gone past since her parents had returned and was greeted by the ringing of the phone. When she picked it up and answered the call she was greeted by the voice of a man she didn't know who seemed to be somewhat depressed. He told her that her parents had gotten into a car accident and that her mother had died in the incident; her Dad being knocked unconscious upon the impact of the collision. Azami was devastated by this naturally. She couldn't believe what he was saying at first and eventually ended up bursting into tears. After all, she was but a child and had not been prepared for such a tragedy to occur.
Her father hadn't suffered many physical injuries and was allowed to return home after the incident but he had clearly been scarred by the experience as she had. He slowly began to lock himself away in his room from his daughter day-by-day and eventually they grew rather distant. His depression had been interfering with his job as well as he began to arrive to work hours later; his efficiency having degraded when it came to the actual quality of his performance as well. Eventually he was fired and with that began looking for a job out in the city.
It was one day however that Azami was greeted to a new side of her father after he returned home. One day after searching for employment in the city he returned home drunk. At first it wasn't anything big. Azami at that time hadn't known about the existence of alcohol and simply thought her father was acting strangely. However, things inevitably got worse for both of them.
Her father became more depressed each day and with that turned to alcohol for the solution. The more depressed he got the more liquor he drank. Slowly he turned from the Dad Azami had once looked to as a role model into a monster. He began to abuse and beat Azami when drunk; blaming her for the death of his wife throughout it all -- insulting and belittling her as a worthless pest. It didn't take long for the scars to settle in and soon Azami was faced with a psychological fear of her father.
She was afraid to tell others about what was happening at home as her father had threatened to kill anyone she told. It didn't take long for people to notice however as she began to act strange and as the beatings got more severe even turned up to school covered in wounds.
Her father was quickly detained by the police and a trial ensued. After a long judicial process he was found guilty and Azami was taken away by child services; reassured that he couldn't hurt her or any of her friends anymore. Despite this though their words made no difference. To Azami they just seemed like shallow promises made by people who didn't know or care about her. She began to drift away from those around her and eventually became the emotionless girl you know today.
She returned to her normal life shortly after as her aunt took custody of her. At her new school she was rather lonely and though she made a few good friends she slowly drifted away from them each time; eventually finding herself completely alone excluding those within her family. Without much of a social life she began to focus on her studies and kendo instead; becoming passionate about both and coming to excel in each.
Recently though her aunt and uncle were forced to take a job overseas for its good pay and worker benefits. Due to this Azami has recently moved in with her grandmother in the Azores Region. Without a kendo club she's decided to join the literature club and continues to continue her life as a new transfer student.
So begins the next chapter of Azami's story.
Azami's time in Azores was short-lived. Though she had begun to forge a friendship with another student, the time she spent with him was small. Eventually, she faded back into the background until the time came to leave. And so she said goodbye to Azores almost as quickly as she had said hello.
With her trauma left unconfronted, it continued to follow wherever she went. As she developed and changed, its existence had a lasting influence and impact on who she turned out to be. She became more and more reserved and, in an unconscious attempt to repress the feelings within her, became more and more stoic. She noticed, however, that this began to concern her aunt and uncle. Not wishing for them to worry about her and recognizing the potential inconvenience in acting so emotionlessly around others, she abandoned her old facade in favor of a new one.
Azami has graduated from high school since then and, after giving the issue some thought, has decided to head out for the Azores Region. She hopes to attend college and start a life there. Though not sure what exactly her goals are in life or what she wants, she continues to slog through the daily grind as she and those around her have always done -- joyful on the outside yet hollow in the inside.

Very nice. A few minor things to tweak or explain to me.
—Strength Name: Bondless —Description: Azami takes 10% less damage from any character who has not established a social link with her. Where is the weakness to counter this? Is the it the weakness in strength one or something else?
—Weakness Name: Vindictive —Description: Azami doesn't let go of a grudge easily. It probably won't result in some rage-induced crusade for vengeance, but don't expect to be easily forgiven if you get on her bad side. I find this a bit contradicting to what I just read in personality. I thought before she held no grudges against those that bested her, so why are grudges a thing for her here?
Fix these things for me and I can approve you.

This was the weakness intended to counter said strength.

If need be, I can raise it further beyond 10%.

That part of her personality was specifically about her competitive nature and how she responds to losing. She can still form grudges against other individuals; it's just that things like being proven wrong or losing a fight aren't things on their own right that will result in a grudge being born.
If you do something that she perceives as wronging her, there's a chance she'll harbor some sort of resentment against you. But winning against her is not something she'd generally equate to wronging her. Thus, a grudge will not be born due to a rightful victory (or what she thinks is a rightful victory) over her.

Alright then. It all seems to be in order then. Approved.
The only thing I have an issue with is that you have a strength that protects you from ALL damage that you have taken when not bonded. You need a weakness that covers more than a single ailment. That's just me.
