Persona Background: Charles-Henri Sanson was the Executioner of Paris from 1778 - 1795. In his tenure as executioner, he executed nearly 3,000, including Louis XVI, under whom he had initially served. Towards the end of his career he became a major proponent of Guillotine due to being easier to maintain, easier to operate, and less likely to cause accidents during execution. Is 1795 he was succeeded by his son, Henri Sanson and died in 1808. When asked by Napoleon if he felt guilt over the number of people he killed, Sanson replied, "If Emperors, Kings, and Dictators can sleep well, why not executioner?"
